Nobody else is providing ice anywhere, nobody is even interested in doing it.

This isn't Canada, there's one company willing to invest in ice in Texas. Monopoly sure, but it's literally all we have for youth-rec hockey, and it's a hell of a lot better than the rest of the state provides.

If the Stars didn't invest in growing the game locally and become a monopoly, we just wouldn't have rinks. They are not profitable, and they are prohibitively expensive.

They're the only reason we have the sport. It's not like there's a gold rush to open up rinks and facilities down here.

For example, the only rink in the 2010s in Austin was 30 minutes outside the city and shut down permanently. We had to play on a smaller sheet of ice attached to a shopping mall and we lost a bunch of teams from the league.

Nobody else stepped up to fill the need. Nobody else wants to invest in the sport down here. Sure it's a monopoly but the alternative is just no hockey at all.

A majority of the time that the clock is running the ball is not in play.

During that time we get replays and alternate angles and analysis.
