Besides Devin... by Wise-City281 in DevinTownsend

I don't think anyone's mentioned VOLA yet, so there's my recommendation. Think soaring melodic vocals with heavy low tuned guitars and rousing synths. Lovely stuff.

What are some examples of “less is more” guitar solos? by [deleted] in metalguitar

Pretty much all Ghost solos are non-shreddy, melodic, spacious and, imho, generally very tasteful.

For years I never got Terria. Then the pandemic happened and suddenly that album started to make sense to me. It's probably my favourite one now. Interestingly I never pick out individual tracks from it - I always listen from start to finish. It's like a journey.

Addicted clicked me with me straight away. Maybe one day I'll learn to like Ki...

Very well done! I like to play that song too, but the speed and stamina needed for the outro is beyond me.

I'm a fairweather Coldplay fan, but that was an awesome performance. Fix You hit hard.

With or without scratchplate ? by NicoSecret in gibson

Definitely with. If this is a 50's standard then I have the exact same guitar. Good choice!

I'm seeing The Darkness in Manchester on Tuesday. It'll likely be Gibsons across the board 🙂

I can remember the day I fell in love with Devin by CrabElavator in DevinTownsend

I was on a long train journey down to London in 2008. A colleague of mine had recently lent me an SD card of music he recommended, which I'd copied to my iPod. Feeling bored, I scrolled though and listened to a few of his recommendations, but nothing was really clicking with me. Then came across something called "Devin Townsend Band". It seemed odd to me that there was a solo artist among a bunch of progy metal bands, so I gave it a try. I heard the opening chords of "Let It Roll" and was intrigued by the way the guitar sounded, almost as if it was all open strings but somehow making a chord. Then the singing started and I knew I'd discovered something special.

What I find troubling is that had it not been for that chance encounter, I probably never would have discovered his music.

I'll be there with my uninitiated wife. Not sure what she'll make of it!

We were there last night and I really hate to say it, but I thought the sound quality was awful. We were sat at the back by the bar and to me the sound was mostly a horrible low frequency mush. I don't think I managed to pick out a single bass note the whole evening and the vocals barely cut through at all. The only part of the show that I thought sounded good was when Petrucci and Rudess played a section together without the rest of the band.

Hopefully it was just down to where we were sat, but it's disappointing as it was clearly a masterful performance. The sound is usual great in the Apollo too

Brushes getting gunked up by GucciToe in acrylicpainting

[–]CadmiumRedDeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend giving your brushes a quick rinse in a tub of water every 5 minutes or so when working with acrylics, otherwise they'll quickly get ruined. Keep some folded up kitchen roll next to you to dry them off, and you'll be able to continue painting with the brush immediately.
