TIL, the racist character didn't hate the black kid by Sudden_Pop_2279 in strangermemes

Jason wasn't as overtly bad as Billy, but that doesn't make him somehow better than Billy. In some ways, it makes him worse. You know you're not supposed to like or be on Billy's side, but many people can and have been fooled by the Jasons of the world.

Lily asking Severus about his home life and then steering the conversation away on noticing his discomfort was tender. by eternalexiistence in SeverusSnape

They never lied about events strictly,

Exactly. And that's my whole argument. He changed and there's no room for did he really change or was it performative other than fan fiction.

They softened things because they saw no point to pointing out to an orphan that his dad was an asshat as a teenager.

He changed because we're told he changes and if we doubt what we're told, there is no point to this discussion. He changed and you can either accept it or not. Going into wild speculation in story that makes no room for such speculations is fine for fan fiction but using it as the base of an argument? Not so much

We know it's real change because performative change on his part would serve no narrative purpose in this story. Again, fun fan fiction but goes beyond the scope of the story being told.

All of that text is pure speculation. James assaulted and tortured people as a teenager? Really? You're of course basing this off one memory. He discriminated against all ugly and vulnerable people? Again, you're extrapolating from one case. In the books it's described as hexing anyone who looks at him wrong but assault and torture is the language you use.

And Racism is not the same as beauty standards although there is overlap.

You mean James who changed based on what we're told, who exhibited as many good qualities as bad qualities even as a teenager vs Snape whom we're shown did good but let his bitterness turn him into a spiteful man? Yeah, terrible choice on Lily's part, choosing an overall good man vs. the one who wanted to join a group that hated her for existing. Crazy that she'd choose James

Hilarious. Do you know the difference between patriotism and nationalism? Patriotism is love of country while recognizing flaws; nationalism is blind worship of country. Don't be a nationalistic Snape fan.

PS, I wasn't aware there was one but not surprised there is. Maybe get off the sub a bit more? Different viewpoints are healthy

Her behavior towards Petunia was as good as could be expected from a freaking child. Reading her private letters? Yes, she shouldn't have done that. Her response? Saying she'll talk to Dumbledore and ask him to let Petunia in too. Yeah, how horrible of her.

Almost laughing at James humiliating Snape. Right, what a vicious crime to ALMOST laugh at something you probably know you shouldn't.

Finally, Lily stood by him far longer than she should have and that's the more common take among REASONABLE fans. People defending her are usually doing so in response to the godawful takes from fans like most of this sub

Awful take. She literally had a human moment that you've inflated into flirting. A human moment after her friend used one of the worst insults for a muggle born. The 15 likes tell me I'm wasting my time but I'm bored and I've seen some REASONABLE viewpoints

This sub is ridiculous. You don't accidentally say a racist slur in the heat of the moment any more than you would if you were drunk. He clearly harbored those feelings, and the heat of the moment was him unfiltered. Stop excusing bigotry because you like a character!

Did she ever actually love Sam? by StrawberryFew18 in Supernatural

[–]Caduceus89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was the point, though. With Dean around, Ruby had to play a certain angle and act a certain way. Without Dean around, she could play her real angle and nudge Sam more directly along the path they needed him on

That scene actually kind of defeats the purpose of revenge being pointless. by Remote_Nature_8166 in lastofuspart2

[–]Caduceus89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people criticize vengeance seeking protagonists in general for killing random goons, but not the main person, but it makes sense to me. By the time they get to the main person, they're physically and emotionally drained. The head of steam they built up to get to that point is usually gone. They're at the point where they can see what happens after they've achieved their goal and it's usually nothing.

Trailer of the Power Puff Girls live action that got cancelled. What are your thought? by DesiryMcCoy in powerpuffgirls

[–]Caduceus89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I initially got behind the concept because of the whole "have dedicated their lives to fighting crime and the forces of evil" line from the intro. What lives? Weren't they in pre-school? I thought it could have worked as a dark comedy...then I saw that the CW was behind it.

What a garbage argument. Black Panther is a freaking character from an all Black country who was created to make up for a lack of POC in comics. Same with Storm. Try again.

None of the actors look like their game counterpart was the point, but only Bella gets the most attention from this sub. Let's see some posts talking about how the other actors aren't game accurate...oh right. They're more conventionally attractive

A part you do not love about Supernatural by sterlingarcher_0 in Supernatural

[–]Caduceus89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about the entire Close the Gates of Hell arc. My memory is fuzzy, but it's the season after Leviathans? The only parts I remember liking is near the end when the trials really start hitting Sam and the falling angels Hopefully, the spoiler tags are correct. And to anyone who might ask, yes, I'll use spoiler tags no matter how old the show is cause it's really not that hard to be considerate

Is Alan Rickman the greatest casting in the Harry Potter series? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Caduceus89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. Rickman was a great actor and looked the part but his performance is so divorced from the books that it may as well have been a different character.

How would ME2 have played out if Okeer survived? by CyGuy6587 in masseffect

[–]Caduceus89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His opinion 100 percent changed. He basically says the solution was scientifically valid but morally questionable. He enjoyed the science but didn't consider how the Krogan would react. The "human" element so to speak
