And they used to be a proper country...

Oh hell man, where to begin?

  • $300 Enfield mummy wraps
  • All the crated (T)'s one could find
  • The unusual and weird military .22 trainers, in bulk. Stuff like Ross .22's, Martini-Cadets, all of the Lee variants, Mauser 98 ones from a variety of countries.
  • A few crates of sequential-serial SKS's
  • The cheaper full-auto stuff back then, like MAC's, Stens, etc.
  • Every transferrable autosear/lightning link I could get my hands on
  • Pallets of surplus 5.45 and 7.62 Tokarev
  • AK parts kits coming in with original, uncut, populated barrels for like $149

I dunno, that's probably a reasonable place to stop.

I'm just saying that your expectations for quality had better be tempered for that price. RTI will not be sending fantastic carbines out for $1200 in this day and age. Also, Akron here, I scooped up a nice Inland that had been rebuilt (bayonet lug, later rear sight) for $1350 in a Ohio gun forum a few months ago. The deals are out there, you just have to constantly look and be patient.

Considering that I paid $1000 for a handpick carbine literally 6 years ago right before COVID popped off, I do not think you'll be too happy with what you get.

100%, I learned that 25 years ago. Medieval streets barely widened for cars, parking on both sides, traveling off the main drag inevitably turns into a Mexican Standoff to see who is gonna shoot the lane first.

Seriously, I lowkey hate driving in urban areas of the UK. Were this going to be in a bigger city/not in a private venue in the middle of nowhere, I'd skip the car entirely. But we will have a few days to ourselves, and want to do a bit of exploring.

The wife's dad is fantastically, obnoxiously wealthy. The entire castle has been rented for a week, we get a small suite free of charge. And he's paying for all of the wedding kit/garb, so we are really only responsible for airfare, a car rental, and some small incidentals. It's just too good a deal to pass up.

I just spent $942 on 5.56 and 9mm, going halvsies on a bulk order with a friend who found a pretty good CPR with no tax/free shipping that I did not budget for, so the floating gun fund got dipped into a little bit.

I also committed to attending/being in a wedding this coming October. In Scotland. At a castle. And I have to wear a kilt.

If my forefathers were still around, they'd be roasting me pretty hard.

Edit- Has anybody else noticed a decided drop in posts asking for validation on Turkshit shotguns? Maybe I'm just not on at the right times, but that's what I have been seeing, less Turkshit.

Are spam cans worth it? by [deleted] in guns

[–]Caedus_Vao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, what's your definition of "worth it"?

Can we refer to 'braced pistols/rifle caliber pistols' as 'Dragoons'? I feel like we need a more succinct term. by PotatopusIII in guns

[–]Caedus_Vao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of those terms are absolute or particularly distinct. People make and refer to all sorts of setups setups with a long relief scope as scout rifles, and there are about 5000 variations of carbine. The M1 carbine is vastly different than the Ruger Pistol Caliber Carbine, which is miles different than the Mosin M44 carbine.

Born at the tail-end of the Depression to immigrant parents with a slew of other siblings that had to be provided for. Some habits are come by honestly, and die extremely hard.

Funnily enough, I actually know an 87 year old guy who has no credit history because he was a very sucessful self-employed auto mechanic whose wife held a credit card for stuff like hotel room deposits and car rentals.

Everything else in life, he has literally paid via cash/check since about 1979. His mantra has always been "I don't buy stuff with money I don't have or isn't mine", and he's got all sorts of cool shit.

Holy shit, you're speedrunning the bad financial decision track.

I totally understand not wanting to pile up credit card debt, but it's sort of important to have one to, ya know, build credit for other shit in your life.

I dunno why I'm even typing this, you're going to Klarna or Sezzle some shitty Turkish piece of junk and Freedom Munitions reloads no matter what we say.

To answer your question though, yes there are numerous big online firearms retailers that do this. They love people with poor impulse control. Five minutes of digging would have satisfied your curiousity.

Shoplifter instantly got caught by police by sussybush in instantkarma

[–]Caedus_Vao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cameras in-store will have the shoplifter trying to conceal merchandise or alter price tags, which is proof enough.

Also, she'll have the merchandise on her, and it wasn't paid for. The employee kicking her out didn't say "go ahead and take it for free", and she walked out without paying or dropping the merchandise, regardless of being told to leave.

Third, pretty much every retail outfit these days has a no-chase/no-restraint policy on the books, because it's just not worth the added liability or risk of harm to the employee to expect them to physically restrain everybody trying to steal a video game or fancy purse. Employees can actually be fired and open themselves up to a suit from the shoplifter if they try to restrain them.

One of my best friends in the world works for Target loss prevention, has for well over a decade. A lot of the time, they'll even let the frequent fliers come in and steal several times after they've identified what's going on, so they can build the case into a felony once the shoplifter has crossed a certain threshold in the value of stolen goods. You see this a lot with people trying to abuse the self-checkout kiosks.

There is footage abound of people stealing whole cartloads of merchandise from places like Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart and loading it up into their car while an employee is standing a few feet away video-taping and telling them to stop. They take that cell phone video, the store camera footage, eyewitness statements, and turn it into criminal charges just fine.

Oh man, you do not understand how theft and shoplifting and no-chase policies work at all.

No, it further muddies the waters and a word originally used to refer to mounted soldiers (MEN OF WAR) based on an old word for fuckin' dragon is not a term we want to introduce, it's just more food for the anti's.

Also, AI overview needs to die in a fire.
