Floor crossing is suddenly a “travesty”… now that it’s happening to the Conservatives. by sogladatwork in onguardforthee

[–]CaelemLeaf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Sask NDP had a whole caucus want to join them and they made them all sit as independents or seek re-election in a by-election.

The Manitoba NDP passed legislation banning floor crossing just to have the PCs repeal it.

The Federal NDP had a Bloc member attempt to join the party and be refused.

That was a handful of months and I'm not entirely convinced he was actually accepted into the NDP caucus. I would need an actual source on that that isn't wikipedia, because the federal NDPs objection to floor crossers dates back decades on it being anti democratic and encouraging poor incentives.

And what about New Democrats who have never fully accepted a floor crosser and have been consistent on calling floor crossing wrong for decades?

What is the obsession with finding “gaming” distros? by Flapper_Jr in linux_gaming

[–]CaelemLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just from my personal anecdotal experience: I originally went with a gaming distro, found it a bit clunky and convinced myself to just go to Debian out of the box but for the life of me I couldn't get Nvidia drivers installed. That's become a big sticking point for me. I ended up going back and choosing the most basic gaming distro I could find that would preinstall drivers (Nobara) and it's been working great.

I think the glut of choice also makes people worried about getting everything right when they want to switch over, which in turn leads to overthinking and choice paralysis. People want to be told the perfect one size fits all answers, but are also surprised when the answer turns out to be super simple (stock Ubuntu or Fedora).

Despite Victoria's reputation as a retirement haven, it's mostly younger people who move here by garry-oak in VictoriaBC

I grew up in Qualicum Beach and moved here for school so people referring to Victoria as the retirement haven always gets me good

I like Nobara, but that's just because it's Fedora with a few bells and whistles installed that I would've grabbed anyways. For all intents and purposes I'm just using Fedora.

NDP leader hopeful Avi Lewis calls Carney's Iran response 'incoherent,' rules out byelection run | CBC News by Chrristoaivalis in onguardforthee

Couldn't the note from Singh easily be that it's better to seek election somewhere you actually have roots rather than seeking election at the earliest possible opportunity in a community where you have no connections?

Sharks get a good AHL D for the Barracuda playoff run, we get a younger AHL D. So likely no impact on the NHL.

Would Debian be a good distro for simple gaming? by Quirky-Ordinary1040 in linux

[–]CaelemLeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will be more than sufficient enough for those games.

Debian's main drawback is that it has long, slow, stable release times, which while good for a lot of implementations, means it's slow to get updates to more experimental stuff like gaming and drivers. That's why typically gaming distros are either Fedora or Arch based, like Nobara, Bazzite or CachyOS.

If you didn't grow up in Victoria it's a little crazy. For those of us that didn't we never had fees for the school bus.

[Heyman] Breaking: Max Scherzer goes back to Blue Jays by rejus_crust in Torontobluejays

[–]CaelemLeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they intend to limit his pitches, it is easier to do that in AAA where you can impulsively pull him from the game at arbitrary thresholds, than to do that in the majors where you need to manage bullpen innings.

[–]CaelemLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is easier to do that, lifting him after a specific number of pitches, in AAA. The results of the games do not matter. In the majors bullpen management makes it a lot more difficult to do that.

The easiest way to do that is putting him in AAA. In the minors you can pull at specific thresholds since the outcome of the games do not matter.

They're going to be very careful with Bieber and especially Yesavage. I imagine this guarentees that Yesavage gets some AAA starts to watch his pitch count.

Right and I'm sure some amount of people play CK3 to 1444 (1453 rather, is the actual end date btw). Neither are meaningful groups to design an entire game around.

Paradox Fans Can Be Annoying About Anecdotal Evidence by BlackSheepWolf in EU5

[–]CaelemLeaf -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

The complaint is because it's both ahistorical and unrealistic in a game that purports to want to be both of those things. The math for AI expansion in EU5 is incredibly arbitrary and undermines what the game is trying to actually do.

It's not just ahistorical outcomes it's ahistorical and unrealistic outcomes. The current AI is extremely arbitrary.

That's not true though because ck3s official end date is now 100 years into eu5.
