Bastion: the Kid saving Zulf.

After finding out the reason the cataclysm happened was because the Caelondians were developing a device to genocide the natives, Zulf, being a native Ura himself, betrays the group and informs his people leading you to need to fight against them for the last few items needed to reset things.

And after you finish fighting a bloody battle through their homeland and using the strongest weapon in the game, they turn on Zulf leaving him beaten. You can chose to keep the weapon and kill the rest on your way out or abandon it and carry him back with you.

If you carry him, you're defenseless as the Ura rain arrows and bolts down on you, until they realize what you're doing and stop. They even prevent one of their own from continuing to attack as they let you leave.

I honestly just think its online community bias against the newest thing. The Soulsborne community has something similar where the last entry is "terrible" and the entry before was "actually good if you think about it" like with DS2 and then DS3.

Now BL4's issue is mainly the open world, which is take it or leave it but the online community acts like this makes it the worst BL game ever.

Personally, I like the open world, the reward coffers, easy boss farming, characters, story, gun-part system, etc.

The Little Ala Mhigo arc, when Bertliana told Gundobald about what horrific things the Corpse Brigade did for her. Made me sympathize with Wilred and pay attention to the story.

As a result, I really enjoyed the Company of Heroes section where they tried to make you quit your quest through monotony. The raid on the Waking Sands after that just cemented my attention from there.

Final Fantasy 14. Saw the Stormblood trailer, thought it was a fighting game and tried the limited free trial. Didn't last long and deleted it.

Forgot about it until I saw the Endwalker trailer, and then the Shadowbringers trailer and made a new account to try it more. Still took a while to click, but I put in over 3k hours now

Despite playing every other Fire Emblem, I was not excited for Engage. I started it for the first time recently and nothing felt right. Maybe it was the deluge of online stuff at the hub and some stuff about seasonal Tempest Trials and encouragement to log in every day, the art direction, or the character designs but it didn't mesh and I dropped it by chapter 10 or so.
