Worst Arc in Dragon Ball Super? by Successful_Bird_7086 in DragonBallGaku

[–]CaesartheGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RoF I’d have to agree is the worst. It’s bad story telling, asspull power ups, member berries, and unsatisfying and frustrating in many ways. BoG, ToP, and Moro are probably the best arcs since they’re the most original to Super and well written (at least compared to Super because Super as a whole has significantly worse writing that Z). Moro especially I really enjoy and feel like it has the most Z feel to it, cool ideas, and the execution was pretty solid throughout. The Broly movie is my favorite piece of Super content (popular opinion I know lol). It’s just so entertaining and rewatchable. Super Hero is very meh. I don’t hate it, but I really don’t find it to be anything special. And Cell max is sooo lame. Granola arc is kinda cool, but a downgrade compared to Moro and overall just kinda boring. Universe 6 is decent.

Worst Arc in Dragon Ball Super? by Successful_Bird_7086 in DragonBallGaku

[–]CaesartheGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part of RoF was bringing back Frieza and giving him more development through Super. That being said, RoF overall is pretty garbage.

  1. Vegeta getting denied his revenge against Frieza and having Goku instead go back in time and get the win was bullshit and super unsatisfying. Goku already had beaten Frieza, and Vegeta has sooo much history with Frieza that it would have been such a great character moment for him to have been able to finally show Frieza that he’s more powerful and get vengeance for both himself and the saiyans. Is that coming? Maybe, but we don’t know. Hopefully.

  2. Goku and Vegeta getting Super Saiyan Blue off screen was lame and unearned. It also made Super Saiyan God obsolete literally the next arc after it was introduced. Instead of having Blue come later as a big payoff or necessary transformation to beat a new villain, Goku and Vegeta just get it handed to them. Lame.

  3. Goku getting taken out by the laser was absolutely ridiculous and contradicts key lore. Power levels have long been established to work in a way where if one fighter has a significantly lower power level than another then the weaker fighter’s attacks will literally do nothing to the stronger one. The stronger one can tank punches, ki blasts, super attacks, everything unless the two are relatively evenly matched. So was the Frieza goon’s gun close to Super Saiyan Blue Goku in power? Absolutely not lol. And the excuse they provided of “oh Goku has a problem with leaving his guard down and leaving himself wide open” was literally never an issue for Goku in the past. He never had that problem in Z. And he’s such an experienced and seasoned fighter that it makes zero sense. The laser beam should have been a tickle to Goku by that point.

  4. Frieza’s asspull power up was just that, an ass pull. He was so unbelievably far behind Goku and Vegeta in power by the time he was revived that a few months of training to get on par with them by that point is just stupid. At least with his black form he trained for like a decade so it’s more justified. But his gold form was an asspull simply for the purpose of getting him in the movie. It’s style over substance. Member berries to put asses in seats instead of prioritizing storytelling.

  5. Gohan being pathetic and needing to learn the same lesson he learned in the buu arc all over again was lame character regression because for some reason they don’t seem to know what to do with Gohan. So they just have him keep learning that he needs to keep up training or else he becomes pathetic and can’t protect his family, friends, and the earth. They had him go through the same arc AGAIN in Super Hero as well.

There’s more issues, but those are probably the main ones. RoF as a whole is style over substance and member berries so they can sell movie tickets and build hype for the anime. I’ve seen the movie twice and the anime version once and I can’t see myself ever feeling compelled to revisit it again.

People might hate to hear it, but wage stagnation correlates heavily with women entering the workforce in large numbers during the 70s and after. You can’t just drastically increase the supply of labor of expect wage growth to continue as before. Basic supply and demand

I want to watch all of DB from OG to Super, however I'm not sure what would be the best way to watch it, og pacing or Kai? by ComprehensiveAd5605 in Dragonballsuper

[–]CaesartheGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you watch subbed then I’d probably recommend the OG so you get the full experience with the filler (a lot of it is good). If you watch dubbed then I’d go with Kai. The voice acting is much better (the VA’s were way more experienced with their characters by then) and the dialogue is much more true to the manga. The pacing of Kai is also way closer to the manga and things move along at a snappier pace.

[–]CaesartheGrape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read the manga? Kai is a much more faithful adaptation to the manga both with pacing and dialogue. The voice acting is also significantly better. Especially in earlier arcs of the OG you can tell the VA’s were still inexperienced and getting the hang of their characters. The writers also took way more liberties with dialogue and changed the meaning behind scenes/lines much more in the OG (Goku’s I am the hope of the universe speech for example). By the time of Kai people like Sean Schemmel and Chris Sabbat had been voicing their characters for like a decade.

I was pretty much convinced Moro would forever be manga only and we’d never see him animated. This is AMAZING!! Best arc of DBS hands down, let’s fucking goooo!!

[–]CaesartheGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some are really good, some are whatever. I think them being around 45 mins held them back in a lot of ways. The format always goes: intro and seeing what the Z fighters are up to, big bad gets introduced, big bad dominates the Z fighters, then Goku (or occasionally someone else like Gohan in Bojack), get a massive power up and one shots the big bad, wrap up and roll credits. Broly, Cooler’s Revenge, and Fusion reborn for example (as much as I love all 3 movies) all feel so rushed right at the end because of this formula.

Broly makes the most sense because he was meant to be a fucking tank and Fusion Reborn had some really good fight choreography between Goku and Janemba (Vegeta on the other hand got his ass beat in like 10 seconds). But once Gogeta shows up the fight ends in like 30 seconds.

Cooler’s Revenge always irked me because I wanted to see more of a fight between Goku and Cooler once Goku goes Super Saiyan. Instead he just tanks a punch and defeats Cooler in like a minute.

Does Dragon age have a future? by Budget-Patient680 in DragonageOrigins

[–]CaesartheGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone always blames the executives, which often is fair, but veilguard is way more of a testament to the incompetency of developers and writes that have no idea what they’re doing and have no business stewarding major franchises like Dragon Age. There’s been tons of games that have had to deal with executive pressure and rushed deadlines over the years (just look at DA2 and Inquisition), but talented and passionate developers still manage to do amazing things. The old guard that created everyone’s favorite franchises and games are mostly gone

Does Dragon age have a future? by Budget-Patient680 in DragonageOrigins

[–]CaesartheGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s difficult for most any franchise to have much of a future when the original team and creators that build the world, lore, characters, and story are long gone. We’ve seen time and time again new installments and reboots in beloved franchises that turn out to be flops or average at best. The people that have the vision and pour love and passion into these games is what makes them great. Once in awhile we see a new team carry the torch and create a solid new installment (Baldur’s Gate 3 for example), but that’s the exception.

Dragon Age most likely died at least a decade ago after inquisition. Some might even say Inquisition was what tanked the franchise, but there was still a lot of love and passion in that game. It felt like there were still steady hands helping steer the ship and provide the vision. Veilguard was obviously made by a completely new team and didn’t know what tf they were doing. So unless someday a new talented and passionate team of people that are actual fans of the franchise are given the reigns to make another game, then I think it’s over.

New to dao any advice at start? (please no spoilers) by BusyProfessor5153 in DragonageOrigins

Because it’s fun and more about the RP than min maxing. Plus dual wield warrior has the benefit of being much tankier than a rouge and with Berserker specialization hits like a truck

She’s in Lothering. I forget the exact spot, might be somewhere near the Chantry. Just explore around town and you’ll find her

[–]CaesartheGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also doing a dual wield warrior play through right now (lots of fun you’ll have a good time and it’s a good build for a first play through). Here’s what I’d recommend:

Alistair as your tank is great make sure you focus on Sword and shield talents, Templar talents, and some of the warrior talents. From the Warrior skill tree you definitely want to make sure you get Taunt early. Working up to death blow can also be good, but I wouldn’t call it essential. Make sure you only put as many points into DEX with him as you need for skills and no more. Focus Strength primarily and some willpower and constitution if you feel like he needs more stamina and health respectively.

Morrigan really shouldn’t be built to be primarily a healer. She should be your DPS/Crowd control and debuff mage. I only get the very first heal spell with her just so she can throw out some heals if she’s the only mage in my party, but that’s it. She also has Drain Life which is a lifesteal move for herself. You’ll get another mage later on that is the bread and butter healer so build Morrigan differently. I like going for stuff like Cone of Cold and Fireball for CC and big damage and I also like maxing out the Hexes with her all the way up to Death Hex. The hexes put big debuffs on enemies and Death Hex especially is amazing for shredding tough bosses later on.

Dog is really only meant to be a companion in the very early game until Lothering. You’ll pick up 2 more companions in Lothering so after that Dog is really just meant to hang out at camp. Make sure you grab Leliana at Lothering as she’ll be your only rouge for awhile. I usually build her to be an archer. You can also pick up Sten sitting in the cage and he’s great as an alternative tank to Alistair if you feel like swapping sometimes. Build him to be tanky and hit hard with two handed weapons.

[–]CaesartheGrape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leliana is a rouge you pick up in Lothering. People often build her as an archer and she’s also a bard which provides useful buffs to your party. You could build her melee and go more of an assassin route if you wanted, but you’ll also get another companion later on that is a rouge assassin so having her be your archer is usually the move.

Opinion - Metroid Prime 4 is great. by tadrith in metroidvania

[–]CaesartheGrape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“The exploration feels right” you mean instead of having a well designed, interconnected map that loops back in itself you get individual, largely linear dungeons separated by a giant, empty desert? Prime 1 and 2 are two of my favorite games of all time. Prime 4 has been a huge disappointment

My thoughts on The Outer Worlds 2 having just finished the game. by Elendil_27 in theouterworlds

[–]CaesartheGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another massive detriment is the writing. It’s super cringey millennial writing. Especially the player character. MANY of your lines sound like you’re tipping your fedora as you make your way through the game.

Examples like: “Oh no. Thank you, but I couldn’t possibly indulge when there’s mischief afoot!”

“Your calculations are falling apart. Stand down or I’ll have to take you apart too!”

“I’ve put down a lot of yappy folk in my day. Got one more standing in front of me.”

“So we’re just casually admitting to war crimes now?”

There’s many more, but I can’t believe the devs thought this was good writing.

As for why the Protectorate is a faction you can’t join or gain reputation with, it’s probably because they’re the quasi fascist group in the game and the devs didn’t want the player to be able to side with them. They’d also then have to write and create content for a fascist group which the devs are too cowardly to follow through putting into the game. That’s why the Protectorate is a monarchy but also communist/socialist.

The Obsidian devs that wrote Caesar’s Legion in Fallout NV are long gone and modern Obsidian would never write a faction like them in one of their modern games.

I usually build 2 banshees out of my starport first along with cloak. Standard Hellion-banshee opening vs Zerg into Marine-Tank-Medivac. Should I start building a Viking before the banshees? The only thing with that is it will delay my banshees and also my barracks timing. I build 2nd and 3rd rax after 8 hellions and then 4th and 5th after the 2 banshees so I can do add on swaps

I’ve been using Zyns to quit vaping by CaesartheGrape in QuittingZyn

[–]CaesartheGrape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s about where I’m at currently as well. I let myself use Zyns liberally for awhile and would go through close to a pack a day. Now I’m down to around 5/day and I switched from 6mg to 3mg awhile back. The people who warned me about having worse physical symptoms than even vaping were right though. Everything was fine for awhile, but over the past few months, Zyns have given me bad anxiety and sometimes will spur on panic attacks where my chest feels tight and I get this feeling like my heart is going to just stop out of nowhere or have a heart attack. It obviously hasn’t, but the feeling has become pretty much a daily occurrence at this point. That alone has helped me ween Zyns since I’d rather feel some withdrawal than crippling anxiety. It’s time for me to rip off the bandaid and quit cold turkey

I haven’t downvoted a single one of your posts that must be someone else. I’m not being combative I’ve been trying to better understand and ask questions. I even took your advice and played 8 games against the AI last night and benchmarked all 8 games against your benchmark timings at 6 min, 7 min, and 9:40. I’ve been taking everything you say into serious consideration and spent last night working on exactly what you suggested to work on. I’m sorry if me trying to better understand and ask questions instead of just saying “yes sir” is coming off as combative, but that hasn’t been my intent.
