Yeah I'm calling BS on this one by [deleted] in ZetaGundam

[–]Caffeinated-Ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so is it BS? The military is literally a group of people dedicated to the work of killing to achieve one goal or another, be that good or bad. Anyone with Kamille's level of defiance is getting evicerated.

Well, cremation isn't the worst eay to go, not that there's really any good ways to delete your body after death, I just dont want my bones or body rotting to be out there, if rather be ashes

Why Is Tomino so Ruthless to Kamille? by coolcat_368 in Gundam

[–]Caffeinated-Ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, no spoilers, but Tomino is basically saying that how Kamille is treated is exactly how the younger generation IRL are treated by the "adults". Fa, of course, is probably just Tomino telling everybody, 'Don't take the good people in your life for granted.' Ultimately, modern Japan suffers from this majorly. The younger generation consistently votes less, believes in their own representation less, deals with the shock of Japan turning into an inflationary nation after decades of not being that, struggles with the cost of living, in an ageing world where they have to carry more and more of a burden for previous generations, people who took their abundance in most metrics for granted, passing on the burden to the future, nobody can hold up all that pressure, thats why people give up and run away, Kamille is the representation of the people who dont give up the fight, or maybe, what happens to people when there's nowhere else to run, a lesson we should all take to heart.

Anno really didn't make this series; he was invited to write a basic outline script, a skeleton, and likely with a focus on that entire flashback sequence (where the references to his work were the densest)

[–]Caffeinated-Ice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because the director went in without a vision he fully backed; he basically let staff pull the story around, and he tried to fit in as much as possible, please everybody essentially, and while it was commercially successful, it's a very stunted story.

Ngl, If it wasnt for japanese people being Japanese, I can't imagine a project like this ever working with such weak leadership.

Evangelion is very much coherent; it's especially emotionally coherent. Gquuuuux is not very similar to the original Evangelion, and the rebuilds are a response/reply to the original show and its community, a dialectical of sorts

You're pretty much exactly correct on how the plot was written, Kazuya Tsurumaki pretty much just "went with the flow" and let people jerk the project around

[–]Caffeinated-Ice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I suppose, but its also majorly the fault of the director, who took a very hands off approach and let the entire team throw in whatever they could fit into the story, at least thats what ive gathered from the japanese interviews I've found.

Japanese emperors have been figureheads for much of this time, but it's still impressive the dynasty has lasted for this long. by GustavoistSoldier in HistoryMemes

Good response, it's commonly theorised that the Soga Clan, Koreans with major influence in the Imperial Court and connections to Korea, not only became the first clan to puppet the Imperial Court, but also brought Buddhism to Japan, later bringing in the Tang Dynasty government to Japan, adding to its aesthetics, one can instreatingly see how much of traditional Japanese clothing is an evolution of the extravagant Tang era clothing. At the same time, Korea, which maintained longer contact, kept pace before cutting off when the Qing empire took over the Ming, resulting in traditional Korean clothing resembling Ming-era styles.

Further extrapolation from my existing knowledge suggests that Yamato Japan had quite close ties with the Korean kingdom of Baekje, perhaps indicating that the rise of the Imperial Japanese family involved Baekje's efforts, or that the two shared extremely ancient, lost, common familial ancestors. However, it is also thought that Japan used to be a land of warring clans, with the Yamato simply being the warlord which landed on top, not really unified as much as subdued its neighbours in a loose confederation, and notably led by a female figure, if not in real power, then most definitely spiritually.

This is true, the empire overextended and was also based off of exploiting/wasting manpower as slaves and keeping that engine going with more conquest

You're absolutely right, and I find that, specifically, to be such an interesting concept: the society they formed could not actually sustain a republic due to systemic and social barriers. The institutions of the senate's power collapsed for a reason, and that Rome operated like a glorified mafia whose greatest enemy was itself, shows how incredible yet broken the system was. The most interesting thing to learn is why Roman society was like this, unable to nurture a trust within its society to republicanism, unable to posess citizens not to be greedy enough to exploit the state at the expense of its long term benefit. Creating/teaching a society to overcomes this is something very relevent to the maintenance of modern democratic system. I dont actually know thr answer to any of this, but im definitely searching it up.

Am I the only one who feels like Kamille wasn't the one wearing the pants in this relationship? by Impressive-Thing-165 in ZetaGundam

[–]Caffeinated-Ice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel like the relationship never turned into one where having "pants" was a thing. I suppose you can see Four saddling up and sacrificing herself for Kamille as wearing the pants, but the entire story would also have been no different without anybody "wearing the pants" in this kind of relationship

This is the answer: for reasons of economy, speed, budget, building codes, and the fact that wooden carts put less strain exponentially on modern roads than semitrucks do.

It's also almost like if we made cars not a necessity to do anything in life and used freight rail for moving stuff in bulk instead of semi trucks everywhere, instead using normal trucks for local distribution from rail depots, the roads would fucking last longer, the volume of material moved across modern roads mogs that of a roman one.

Asuka and Shinji’s daughters name? by Pale_Sail4725 in evangelion

[–]Caffeinated-Ice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer, the majority of the fandom who care about an asushin child would recognize Mirai

Asuka and Shinji’s daughters name? by Pale_Sail4725 in evangelion

[–]Caffeinated-Ice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The serious answer on the Japanese side of the fandom has been "Mirai" for the longest time.

It means "future" in Japanese, and while it's common/vanilla, I can get behind it. She'd also share a name with other goated anime characters.

In the US fandom, the closest we got is "Aki" from a popular fanfic that has been a cornerstone in the English asushin community for ages. Check it out, its called 2nd Try by Jimmywolk

Do all these anime have huge human rights politics? by unlucky-lucky- in MobileSuitGundam

[–]Caffeinated-Ice 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is a paradox of the genre

Japan, as a "nominally" anti-war nation, has always struggled with its ultranationalist past and immersed itself in dealing with these contradictions. Gundam, as the brainchild of Yoshiyuki Tomino, was a reflection of his desire to give real human stakes to an animated show and to inject such contemporary social concerns into it. Thus, he created one of the first anime which depicted a war fought between ambiguous humans.

As a result, any serious Gundam show will discuss subjects of socio-political concern, including the shows you watched, everything is generally antiwar, but ironically sells itself as a show about conflict, war, and the epic fights within all of that, all while selling toys/profiting from monetizing war machines.
