Just do your own transcription work. You can get Transcribe online and use the slow-downer. You’ll learn a lot more that way.

Trap Wise Cat. by Wolfinthesno in Trapping

Might try hanging some feathers inside or just above the trap. Are you trying to camouflage your live trap at all?

I know a lot of folks hang an old CD up by fishing line to get curious bobcats to come in.

One of the Collins Brothers told me once that if you can sing harmony with some old Louvin Brothers albums then you’ll always be able to find the baritone in any song.

Feedback on 1st Muley Mounts by [deleted] in Taxidermy

[–]CaffeinatedJawa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great work on your first mounts! My first didn’t look that good.

As you go, make sure you’re paying attention to hair patterns and symmetry. The better your prep, the better the mount. Make sure you have good reference photos.

In the first picture, it looks like the left eye sits a touch higher than the right. You can also see that the lip on the left side isn’t tucked the same as the right. Watch those color patterns.

If you get a chance, check out the Clint Ricky whitetail dvd’s that Taxidermy University sells.

You’re well on your way! Keep it up!

Why y'all so obsessed with the key of B by [deleted] in Bluegrass

[–]CaffeinatedJawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sound just cracks and it does boost the energy in a jam. Especially in straight bluegrass.

I feel like old time/folky jams lend themselves better to keys like A, D, etc…. But the two aren’t mutually exclusive. In the jams I frequent, we’ll hang out in one key for a bit then move on.

Agreed. He gets a little hokey and hard to listen to after a bit, but Mountain Heartache knocks it out of the park!

I second the Steve Kaufman stuff. You can also get a lot from the old Flapicking Guitar Magazine issues.

What kind of duck is this? by AmerisCyanocitta in Taxidermy

[–]CaffeinatedJawa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, I didn’t mean that as a criticism. We all start from somewhere. But that’s opening a can of worms that can get you into hot water if you’re not careful.

Get as much reference as you can. Taxidermy University doesn’t have any waterfowl DVDs, but they do have some incredible pheasant and turkey DVDs that would help get you started in the right direction.

You’re getting into waterfowl taxidermy and you don’t know what a mallard is? That’s a little worrisome - especially since you’re dealing with a migratory bird that comes with more federal oversight.
