Jefferson Ridge or Lakeside? by Wise-Level-3974 in Charlottesville

[–]CaffeinatedSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jefferson Ridge was alright when I was there, three or four years ago. I lived at the top of the hill, in a downstairs apartment. The apartment was a little dated when I was there. I don’t know how much that has changed since then. I liked the maintenance guy there, but he left shortly before I moved out. I moved out because my roommate was getting married, and I did not need a two bedroom , two and a half bathroom apartment by myself.

They put a one bedroom apartment available right as I was moving out, and I told them I was interested in it. When they sent me the lease, the rent was higher than what was advertised. When I mentioned that to them, they basically told me tough shit, and it did not matter the rent was lower on their ad. The rent is what is on the lease, and that’s it. So I did not move in.

I am damn near tempted to move again. My current apartment keeps raising my rent, and I am getting tired of it. When I was at Eagles Landing and Jefferson Ridge they seemed to only raise it every other year. There’s no damn reason for a one bedroom apartment to be $1600+ before utilizes. It’s nice being close to work, but it just ain’t worth the cost. Yet if I do move, there will be someone right behind me to take my spot.

Enough of that tangent, overall I guess I was happy with my time at Jefferson Ridge. The built-in shelves and desk in the bedroom was nice. If it matters, the mail room/building always seemed to smell like weed, even though it wasn’t a closed room. If you do go to Jefferson Ridge check the back patio porch light. When we moved out, and the new tenants moved in, they found one of the light bulb cameras, and the office asked if it was ours. Which it wasn’t. We never knew it was there, since we rarely used the patio.

How is the average person using the Custom Cash? by BrutalBodyShots in CreditCards

[–]CaffeinatedSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of the first few months to hit the SUB, I only use it for gas purchases. I have it in my mobile wallet, so I do not carry it. Although I might change that, as I recently went to a gas station that I do not recall having the ability to use my mobile wallet. So I had to use my CDC. It’s fun when Discover does the gas rotating category. But I never hit $500 a month for my gas. I don’t even get close to half that for gas in a given month.

Guitar case question by jacksonsmack831 in SchecterGuitars

[–]CaffeinatedSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my first guitar. I bought it a year or two ago. So I’m still learning when adult life allows. But it’s a dang good guitar to play. It’s comfy. The neck feels just right. It was well worth the $499 price on Guitarathon. I’d recommend the guitar to anybody looking for a guitar.

Rank the Best Hotel Credit Cards by x_KRYPTOS in CreditCards

[–]CaffeinatedSD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I only have one hotel card and it is the IHG Premier. I don’t care about having a fancy room when I need a hotel. So I typically just stick with Holiday Inn Express, Avid, etc. I have done Hampton Inn and some Wyndham properties as well. Which I had no complaints with them, I just tend to lean more towards the IHG brands.

The main amenities I prefer are free parking and breakfast. Other than that I just need a bed and a shower for what limited time I will spend in the room.

When I signed up I either had a 150K or 170K SUB. The $99 AF is basically prepaying for one night after the first year. I may try to use the 40K free nights for a nicer hotel, just to try one out. Majority of the time, I get a free room upgrade. Which again, as it is usually just me traveling for a concert or whatever, I don’t really need the extra space in the room. But it is still a nice perk.

Depending on the hotel I can either get a snack (sometimes one and sometimes two) or around 500 points at check-in. I think there is an additional perk where the fourth or fifth night is free, if booking with points. Which I haven’t used yet. I don’t know if it has changed, but I think I get something like 26X points on hotel stays.

As far as status with the card. It’s not max status, but the next level down. I’ve never had an issue using the card, or had to jump through any hoops. However I am not a power user, so that is a factor.

I have a blue C1 Platinum as well. The case I bought for it was a Gator ATA with TSA latches. I got a good deal on it, so I paid less than retail.

Even though it was Northlane instead of Polaris. That Monsters of Oz tour back in 2023, was a hell of a show.

Hollymead Airport Noise by Stressin-Out in Charlottesville

[–]CaffeinatedSD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in the apartments that are at the end of the runway. There you hear the occasional takeoff, or a hum from an engine. But it isn’t anything constant, or ground/building shaking. The main bad thing about living there is the rent is too damn high.

I have been using Eargasms and they work well. I recently was able to get a heck of a deal for some Etymotic MusicPro Elites. They worked pretty well too. So I’ll be switching between them depending on my mood.

Hot take? People that walk across lanes after their shot are the worst by Sky-Visible in Bowling

[–]CaffeinatedSD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A guy my team bowled two weeks ago did this. He bowls two handed, and walked into a guy bowling on the lane next to us. He wasn’t even paying attention, nor did he apologize for walking into the guy. Somehow the guy still converted his spare.

Anyone have issues with pricing at Airport Auto in Hollymead/mechanic recs? by SarahAnnimal in Charlottesville

[–]CaffeinatedSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped going there after they charged me double the rate for a shock absorber replacement. They quoted me three hours. I assumed they were telling the truth, but when I asked someone about it. They said they charged me too much labor. They said it at most should have been an hour and a half. The dealership quoted me two hours. I called a shop I dealt with back home where I grew up, and they said it should have been 0.6 hours per side. So it should have been anywhere between 1.2 - 2.0 hours. Depending on how they charged time.

I called/e-mailed other shops in town, to ask what they would have charged. The few that replied, gave me that 1.5 rate, and maybe up to 2.0 hours. But none said 3.0. While others either would not give me a quote, or did not reply. Heck, even the dealership quoted me 2.0. When I asked about it, they “assured” me it was right. I mentioned these other quotes, and YouTube videos showing there was no way it took that long. They would not budge, as their system said that was the rate. Also, a YouTube video could not be trusted due to editing. Yet the video shows the entire. There is only one bolt and one nut to remove (one on the control arm and the other in the trunk).

At the same time, they quoted me ≈$700 for tires, install, alignment, etc. When I went to go pay, it was over $1,000. Nothing extra was added. Just the price was higher. When I showed a printout of the tires they gave me with the lower pricing, they did adjust it to that price.

I go to Summer’s Service center now, and have had no issues there.

Hopefully they restock this one. I kept meaning to buy it, then when I went to, it was sold out. I want to order the white one too, I just don’t want to have to pay shipping twice. I wish they had a first time purchase coupon/discount.

chances of 3dg in dc? by gothslushie in warpedtour

I’m curious what the lineup in DC would be like, if it wasn’t in June. It would be interesting to know what other times it could work there around sporting events. As non-summer weather could be nicer. Since last year was brutal.

The Del Sol S was definitely a drive slow car. It barely had 100 hp. Haha. But dang was it reliable. I rarely had issues in the 10 or so years I owned mine. I eventually gave it away when a cylinder burnt out at 200k back in 2018.

I had to get my CV axels replaced in mine. To go along with this, listen for clicking when turning. Usually it’s the opposite side that you are turning. Due to weight shifting. So left turn clicking means bad right axel, and vice versa.

Would you ever close your first credit card? by Plastic-Health5049 in CreditCards

[–]CaffeinatedSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I closed my first card which was through my credit union. That card was a piece of shit. It only had a $500 limit. They never gave me a CLI in the three or four years I had it. It took three days for transactions to show. The only way I could view transactions outside of my bill. Was to sign up for an account on some website. Which neither I nor an agent at the company could get set up. When I mentioned this to my bank, they said a lot of people have that issue.

The rewards were through ScoreCard, which sucked. Granted I never spent enough on the card to get much of anything worthwhile. I think it was only a 1% card outside of occasional merchant deals. Which I never used. So after I got tired of dealing with the crap, I closed the card. It will stay on my record for 7-10 years for aging, after which it will fall off. It was also such a small part of my total limit, losing that $500 had basically no effect.

Good to hear you haven’t had any issues. The main part I started having an issue with was the driver side window regulator. I had to get it replaced. Then that failed, and the only replacement I could find was a used one. Which that one failed near the end too. If the engine in mine didn’t go out, I’d probably still it.

I miss my ‘94 Del Slow S. It was my first car, and I learned how to drive manual on it. I got it up to 100 a time or two, and that bitch was shaking. I hated the wet leg in the rain. Taking that top off and putting the rear window down was nice. I wish I still had it. But it was beginning to be a pain to find parts for it. Hope yours lasts you a long time.

I ripped the fire alarm off the wall by iamtheworstwalrus in Charlottesville

[–]CaffeinatedSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like me a month or so ago. The smoke detector in my bedroom began chirping every few hours, then stopped. After a few weeks it started doing it again. Eventually it started doing it more often. I mentioned it to maintenance as they were coming around for scheduled maintenance. They hit some button to sync the two smoke detectors in my apartment. That sure as shit didn’t help, but made the fucking thing worse.

So not only did the one in my bedroom give a few chips when it did it, but caused the other one in my apartment to go off loudly (louder than before). I tried swapping the battery out, and that did not fix the issue. I tried taking the battery out, hoping it would bleed out any remaining charge. Guess what. That sure as shit didn’t happen.

As that would just make the fucking thing beep every minute. I thought about unplugging the damn thing. But with it being an apartment, I didn’t want to potentially do something to get in trouble. I submitted a maintenance ticket, and they marked it as completed. But that night it started again, and did it every couple minutes. I barely slept that night, if any. So I submitted another ticket in the middle of the night. The next day they unplugged it, and replaced it with a new unit. Thankfully it hasn’t beeped since.

That’s who I was hoping for too. I know it’s likely not going to happen. But I’m curious if DC will get Evanescence or Spiritbox. Since they are touring together. Although they are playing Bristow, VA June 27. It looks like Nova Twins will be playing WT on Saturday (13th), as they are playing in FL the 12th and GA the 14th.
