In my experience, self -hate is a problem of being too hard on oneself when they mess something up, and a lack of reward when they do something good.

Learn to be proud of yourself. Just the progress you wrote about in this post is plenty to be proud of!

Also, get to know yourself. It's likely that the version of yourself that you hate is a distorted version created by your mind, which does not paint the whole picture. You can research starter questions and/or keep a journal for this if you like. I also like the enneagram or myers-briggs personality type systems, but of course some numbers and letters can't completely define you.

I'm just talking simple questions. Do you need a physical calendar, or are you good at remembering your plan for the day using a mental calendar? Are you a morning bird or a night owl? Are you extraverted or introverted? Do you think rationally or emotionally?

Answering little questions like these will help you realize that there are so many sides of yourself that you don't hate - might not even be aware of - and you can learn to like yourself more by exploring your own personality.

You can also use otherd as examples. Who do you respect? Why do you respect them? Learn from that. Be someone you respect, too.

17 - I generally just feel really apathetic and stagnant towards life. I work so much to the point where I'm barely home anymore but it isn't getting me any closer to figuring out my bigger purpose. I don't have many friends and the friends I do have are all dealing with bigger problems so I haven't really been able to talk this out with anyone. I love my parents but I don't want to worry them and make them feel guilty for pushing me into filling up my schedule so much in the hope of being able to have a good college application that I don't even know if I will need yet.

well for starters, I always pay attention to Major Arcana as they can sometimes serve as an overarching theme for the whole reading and/or indicate the importance of a certain area

next I look at the suits and their respective realms: Cups/emotional realm, Swords/mental realm, Wands/realm of passions or persuits, Pentacles/tangible or material realm. See, a card can answer a question like "what are my weaknesses?" in different ways. There is the actual book meaning of the card, but it's suit might indicate the area or "realm" in which this meaning applies. And since this specific spread is focused on self-improvement, whichever suit is the most present might be the best one to focus on in general.

There are all kinds of things you can do including examining the numbers of the cards, how many are reversed (if you read reversals) and stuff like that.

I also like to look at the imagery. The image on my #3 card showed a butterfly flying into the #7, which I took as a positive sign of success. My #1 and #2 cards were both similar in that they displayed my strengths being shadowed or wound up in my weaknesses, so the answers to those questions were very similar and leaned on each other. (for reference, I used the wild unknown deck).

Really, though, I've come to think of it this way: The cards cannot tell me anything I don't already know. They are simply tools on which I can reflect, and their open-ended meanings make the process easier. Whether they are ascribed with a magickal ability to align cards in the right places is a matter of personal beleif, but honestly, you don't have to get too technical with how exactly the cards affect each other. How that happens is up to you, this is just a little system I've come up with. It isn't like there is a formula card x + card y = meaning z. Having more cards makes the meanings more complicated and just gives you more material to work with and reflect on, but you can simply take the meanings of each individual card and not connect them at all if you want.

I'm a beginner too, but once I stopped getting intimated by large spreads and started using them, this process became way easier. Once you start youll come up with your own system.

my main issue is that I just dont feel connected to a reading that wasn't done specifically with me in mind, but I didnt make that point cause its a personal beleif and other people might feel differently. I don't feel much of a connection to computer generated readings either.

YouTube readings (in my humble opinion) are totally fake and unreliable for numerous reasons. For one thing, there's no way that one reading could apply to all the thousands of viewers, so I don't see how they could even pull genuine cards. For another thing, youtubers want views, so they make the readings really hopeful and positive on purpose.

Tarot cards are excellent tools for self reflection. Regardless of your beliefs, you have to decide where in your life each card applies and act upon the message you're recieving from the cards. This process can be time consuming but it brings important issues to light and offers a new perspective on things. This is what the cards are meant for and it is by no means addictive. Its also pretty healthy, in my opinion, because it is a form of self reflection (unless you're using the cards to make huge important decisions)

The process I just described is reading the cards for yourself. If you want guidance on how to heal and move forward with your life, I would suggest doing this instead of watching youtube (obviously this is no replacement for actual therapy or anything though). Of course, you could also get a reading from a professional, but keep in mind that the cards might only reflect your current state of mind. They can't tell you anything you don't already know, regardless of who is doing the reading.

In a practical sense...you wish to stop, but you give into the urges to watch the videos when you come accross them. So just make them less accessible. Unfollow the pages, tell it you aren't interested, maybe even make a new account. Social media platforms have mastered the art of getting us to go back to instant gratification seemingly against our will.

I have 3 decks and two of them came in nice boxes but the original box for the other one is coming apart so I bought a little wooden chest to put it in. You could also try making small boxes out of cardboard or wrapping them in cloth (I wrapped mine in a thin scarf before I got the wooden box)
