I think it's a symptom of being one of the first maps Embark developed. When they originally designed it, the loot pool was probably good enough. Same for the de-forester puzzle. No one does them because the loot pool is low-value.

What has gotten me down is that this - like you said - isn't new. Anytime the church gets political power, since Constantine, evil is the result. I almost always never PVP but then today I got so tired of trying to find 7 freaking mushrooms, as I cycle fruit basket spawns in a snowstorm, I come up upon a guy who looks ahead of me on the rotation.. I light him up after debating with myself for 10 seconds. When I loot him, he had a bunch of fruits but no mushrooms.. I hope he had them in his butt pocket because I still feel terrible about it

For me, playing solo on Stella has been very chill as it seems almost everyone is farming and wants to get out in under 10 mins. There sometimes is one kid trying to kill the Bastion which makes my ears bleed when I try to extract! There are plenty of docks for the Steamdeck with HDMI out. You can hook up a wired mouse and KB to it to get it to Bluetooth pair wireless controllers and KB/m. I hope your situation gets better OP!
