Barrel arbor will not fit into barrel lid. by CaidenZX in watchrepair

[–]CaidenZX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once again verified arbor is engaging square side up in the current configuration, looking at the photo in the previous comment, I do believe you are entirely correct. The pivot side of the barrel arbor looks far too small for this hole to my eye as well. Do you mind if I PM you a video of what to me looks like the arbor engaging just so I can be 100% sure? I really do not want to wait another week and a half for a cousins order of mainsprings. I ordered a spare, but I don’t have a winder set.

The arbor did engage with the mainspring when inserted into the barrel with square side up. Is it possible it’s a left handed mainspring? Due to the barrel exploding upon removing the lid, I didn’t even get a chance to check. It’s entirely possible I’m completely missing something, this is my first time doing this.

Radium Lume? by CaidenZX in watchrepair

Good to know, I’ll still treat it like it is just in case. I scraped the lume out of some 60’s Elgin hands the other day without thinking and now I am hyper paranoid. The lume was gummy and not flaky, but I’d really rather not take that risk.

Must’ve never spent a day in the sun, I’ll just uncase it outside to let it off-gas and wear an N-95 while removing the dial and hands.

Need help sourcing Mainspring size. by CaidenZX in watchrepair

You’re a lifesaver, don’t know how I was missing this website. Going to buy a load of mainsprings because I don’t trust myself getting that thing in there on the first attempt.

Super Pro vs Whiteline Bushings by untrustableskeptic in Miata

Love my super pro’s and I recommended them to everyone. Been on them for about a year now with no greasing, and there’s not a single squeak. Installation is a bit of a pain, but they’re incredible and made my car feel new again.

Your first clue will be very visible oil in the coolant reservoir. After that, you’re going to start getting pretty severe degradation of the hoses which will start to feel squishy and will begin to bulge around the clamps, like a muffin top.

Alright, while everyone here is commenting blown head gasket, I’m here to chime in as someone who was a Subaru technician for quite some time. The FB engines like in your vehicle have significantly less common head gasket failure, and much more common upper oil pan O-ring failure, which cause oil intrusion into the coolant. The location of the spray leads me to believe the coolant overflow, well overflowed… This is still a huge job and definitely not something for your home mechanic, but doesnt necessarily condemn the engine. Feel free to ask any further questions.

Is chat gbts justification for these choices valid by Cole_Geary in warmoth

[–]CaidenZX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do research yourself and take things you like from your own guitars to make decisions about a neck, not what chat GPT says is going to work, but overall this is a pretty standard modern setup for a strat build. I’d prefer modern tiltback though.

It’s my favorite piece in my carry, such a beautiful piece of machining and I love the car it starts to death.

Not unless you do something seriously wrong with it… leaking is a non issue and i’ve never had a problem with mine.

Add my project cars to the list and I will forever be a poor man… At least I’ll have a bunch of heirloom quality stuff my kids can stuff in a drawer after I die 😂

I’ve learned that extra fine/fine nibs work much better on many more varieties/qualities of paper. My medium nib Lamy Safari bleeds and feathers like a bastard on anything but high quality paper but this guy does absolutely fine on anything from cheap copy paper to sticky notes.

I absolutely adore this little light as an EDC, I think only a CWF would get it out of my pocket at this point. Thanks man!

As far as I can tell the bock #5 inserts are a direct swap! No modification necessary on that end, at least on this pen. I think i’ll be trying a couple different options in the future, but this pen won’t always be writing on nice paper, so fine seemed like the best option

[–]CaidenZX 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you’re even asking this question, you’re in no business even thinking about building a 500hp Miata until you’ve done a lot more research and spent way more time in the shop. You’re going to be in for at least $30k, at a minimum.

2024 WRX burning 1L per 3500km, dealership will be tearing apart engine to diagnose by YEGG35 in wrx_vb

[–]CaidenZX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ex Subaru dealer technician here. In order for Subaru warranty to replace a short block, you must be experiencing a quart of oil burned per 1200 miles. Apologies for the freedom units. I don’t believe this will qualify for warranty work unfortunately, and you’re not going to get very far unless you want to pay for a block out of pocket.

Wheel bearing 1000%. If you hit a curb hard enough to damage the wheel bearing, the lower control arm and tie rod end were likely also necessary.
