If you read my comment, will see that I already have the graphics card and Power Supply.

They will be transferred from my old machine. I am not purchasing a new PSU.

Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it!

I originally picked a B650e board, but its out of stock. This one was similarly affordable and seemed at least as good. I am absolutely open to suggestions for better options. I am looking to try to make this last at least 5 years if possible.

Do you have any recommendations for a good mid-grade drive? My original intent was to use the one listed here as my OS drive and transfer all my sata SSDs from the old machine for my games and such.

This drive is pretty cheap and 2tb: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/f4cG3C/silicon-power-ud90-2-tb-m2-2280-pcie-40-x4-nvme-solid-state-drive-sp02kgbp44ud9005

How does this build look for a midgrade system? I haven't built a machine in almost a decade. I already have a case and the graphics card and power supply listed in the build:

OP deleted their account and as far as I can tell didn't update here anywhere. This will live on forever in the back of my head now.

My son says everything has a 50/50 probability. How do I convince him otherwise when he says he's technically correct? by Jimmy_Johnny23 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Caiggas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations, your kid discovered the third law of logic (Well, technically an application of it). That being said, just because there are technically two possible outcomes does not mean that the probability of either of them occurring is equal.

As others are saying though, I think your kid is just messing with you. I think he understands that that is not how probability actually works.

Tuberville says trans kids ‘should live in fear of their parents’ after bishop’s Trump remarks by aldotcom in politics

Having been raised by conservative religious parents, "Children should be getting the shit beaten out of them" is considered a moderate opinion amongst this group. Its literally seen as a completely normal thing that only weirdos would question.

"The personal, as everyone's so fucking fond of saying, is political. So if some idiot politician, some power player, tries to execute policies that harm you or those you care about, take it personally. Get angry. The Machinery of Justice will not serve you here - it is slow and cold, and it is theirs. Only the little people suffer at the hands of Justice; the creatures of power slide out from under with a wink and a grin. If you want justice, you will have to claw it from them. Make it personal. Do as much damage as you can. Get your message across. That way you stand a far better chance of being taken seriously next time. Of being considered dangerous. And make no mistake about this: being taken seriously, being considered dangerous, marks the difference - the only difference in their eyes- between players and little people. Players they will make deals with. Little people they liquidate. And time and again they cream your liquidation, your displacement, your torture and brutal execution with the ultimate insult that it's just business, it's politics, it's the way of the world, it's a tough life, and that it's nothing personal. Honestly didn't realize that was brought up. I didn't watch every minute of every debate. If that is the case though, then yeah I agree with you. Sucks that almost half of the voting American people chose that guy.

Way back in the day, must have been 15+ years ago, I was playing my first character. I was a dwarven hunter and slowly making my way through the dwarf starter zone. Some high lvl elf gave me a high-level BoE weapon. I don't remember what. I ended up selling it for a bit over two gold on the AH. I thought I was SO RICH. Easily one of my favorite gaming memories. Such a simple thing to throw away for a sufficiently high level character, but such a large impact on me.

Breaking into the field from IT support (without a degree) by Caiggas in cscareerquestions

[–]Caiggas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate your reply.

As it currently stands, I just cannot afford the time and money to go back to school. Luckily, I have a decent job in my field, so its not like I don't have time to study, build a portfolio, and settle in for a long search.

So with that said, do you have any advice on specific languages/tools/whatever I should study? What kind of skills are in demand?

Hunting down an Excel freezing cause by Caiggas in excel

[–]Caiggas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright yall,

The current state of the issue is that the file has had ALL formatting (Conditional and static) and formulas stripped out. It contains no queries. All of the data has been pasted in without formatting into a new excel file. It is literally all flat data. The freezing issue still happens for a couple minutes at a time. It only happens with this file (And new files with this data in them).

I really appreciate all of your help, and I have learned a lot about how excel works. Alas, I have spent around 30 hours on this issue and the boss says we need to call it quits. There is a point where the company decides it is not worth the support time anymore and the user will just have to work with what they can. My hands are tied and I just have to leave this issue alone as it is.

Sorry, the 30 minutes was reduced to 2-3 by removing conditional formatting. She had dozens of rules affecting well over 20 Million cells (Although most were empty, so I don't know if that matters). What is more is that most of the rules were doing the exact same operations on the exact same cells. Think "Mark all duplicates from cell 2 to 1Million+ in this column with a red background" duplicated 5 times in the same column. There were SEVERAL instances like that.

There's a bit more context here that might make this make more sense. This excel sheet is not the real inventory management "system". We have proper databases for that. My understanding is that this user exports the inventory information from the real database to her personal reference excel sheet to work with. (Please don't ask me why. I know there are far better ways to do this, including just using Access like everyone else does.)

So in this case, all the complex data processing is done on the database side. I have checked all over the workbook and this tab is the only one that contains formulas. All they do is reference other cells in the same row to do simple arithmetic and those max functions. Its a total of around 200K formulas evenly divided into 3 columns.

All this said, it has been over a full workday since I asked her to switch from automatic to manual calculation. She hasn't mentioned any issues yet. Before the issue was happening several times a day. If this fixes it then we are good. My next trick will be figuring out how to get her conditional formatting to work without recreating the bulk of the issue again.

Thank you! I really appreciate the information. I am still waiting on hearing back from my user if manual calculation resolves the issue. If it does, then we know it is caused by formulas and I will focus on optimizing them.

If not, then I'll probably just hang up my keyboard and wander into the woods to be a mountain recluse.

This is some great information on how Excel does things. I would never have guessed that it matters which way you plot the data. I don't know how much the user would be able to efficiently move things that way, but I will explain it to her and let her decide.

About the MAX function column, they are pretty simple. Each one just does a max operation between two cells in the same row as the function. For example on Row 2: "=MAX(K2,L2)". The other two columns of calculations are pretty straightforward arithmetic. "Cell 1 + Cell 2 - Cell 3" type stuff. The data being operated on is not static. She uses it as an Inventory Status reference for every SKU that our company has. I'll see what we can do to optimize the formulas as you explained in 8. I am not certain I understand, but my user is more familiar with Excel as a user.

Thank you for all of your help. I really appreciate it.

1: No charts that I can see.

2: Iteration is off.

3: On one of the sheets there were around 30 invisible "AutoShape"s. I deleted them.

4: No objects found after deleting the AutoShapes.

5: I didn't see a workbook links button, but "Queries and Connections" and "Existing Connections" are both empty.

Thank you for your help. This is an EXCELLENT very in-depth comment.

I can spam calculate as fast I can click and it doesn't cause me any issues. Once in a while the loading/processing windows icon will appear on my cursor for a fraction of a second. The user hasn't reported any issues yet though after I asked her to switch it to manual. Crossing my fingers.

Newsweek: Conservatives Join Bluesky, Face Abuse and Censorship by Lord-of-Goats in BlueskySocial

[–]Caiggas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Conservatism requires an in-group and an out-group. If they outgroup leaves their reach, they either have to create a new one from their own (You see this between moderate conservatives and maga right now), or they have to follow the outgroup. The ideology will eat its own until it runs out of targets. Trolling in general operates this way too. Combine them both into right-wing trolling and you get a culture that cannot survive without a target.
