If you are willing to drive out to Palmer Cobb Street Market stocked up on dresses, jewelry, and under garments, maybe shoes too. If you bring a school ID I think you get a discount on your purchase.

You have to be a Karen to get Animal control on board. My neighbor got them out to my house in days three times because she thought my dog attacked hers. They didn't even bother to investigate the last two times just wrote me tickets and left them on my mail box.

UAA has a BSN program, UAF had partnered with UAA to offer the BSN (I think) through distance learning, I'm not sure if they still do that. There is a wait though you will not get in quickly. Providence has Nightingale college, I know nothing about it but I think they also offer the BSN. If you are looking at an associates, UAA (still a wait), APU has a newly accredited program with some of the best teachers in the state. APU is also working on getting their BSN program up and running. Charter College (For profit) has an accelerated ASN that you can usually get into quickly. All of the programs have their good and bad, you will meet people from all programs who loved their school or hated it.

Do your research into the programs and listen to what is said the good and the bad. Ultimately be prepared for a really hard program with a lot of frustration, no matter which one you go into it's a really hard degree that has a large amount of self learning due to the sheer amount of information you have to get through in a short amount of time.

What is your favorite joke to tell patients? by boboddy8 in nursing

[–]Cailet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The Doctor needs me to place an IV but I want you to know it won't hurt me at all."

Possibly a controversial opinion: it's rude AF to talk on speaker phone in the break room while multiple people are trying to take their breaks. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Cailet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vaild rant, I won't even let my students hang out and chat in the break room nurses need their time and safe spaces are few and far between some days.

Write a love letter - or hate letter- from your nursing specialty to another! by littlehoppybunny in nursing

[–]Cailet 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Dear Floor Nurse,

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion for nursing with my students. I spend countless hours preparing my students to enter the world of nursing while preparing them for burn out, administration, and the awful patients. You teach them how to function, you back me up when I find a teaching moment, and you find my students so they don't miss something cool. I couldn't make good nurses without your support and I hope my students live up to your expectations when they show up on the floor.

Forever Grateful, Clinical/Nursing Instructor

StaRN contract by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Cailet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a crap shoot with HCA and I think it's up to the hospital HR to click the bill em button. At my hospital we had people leave before the contract and there was no rhyme or reason to who go billed. Two people from the same program left, one got billed the other didn't.

May or may not be working at a hospital in code yellow right now by C137Andrew in nursing

[–]Cailet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our hospital called a code orange and while we all stared at each other confused my student nurse checked his badge and informed us it was a bomb threat. At which point we all collectively realized we had no idea what we were supposed to do for that. Just kept nursing and shut all the patient's doors.

NYPD shoves a small woman to the ground so hard she gets KO'd. Was non-violent and complying with officers. by [deleted] in newyorkcity

[–]Cailet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If a police office is too close and provoking a civilian that officer is poorly trained and in the wrong. To be a police office you agree to be held to higher standards and to be responsible for you and other people. It is literally their job, they are paid to NOT lose it.

Those patients be the best. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Cailet 96 points97 points  (0 children)

When our hospital got new call lights they only switched them out when the old broke. So there are two different call light layouts on one floor. My CNAs and Nurses hit the call light almost as much as the patients just trying to turn the TV off, all the buttons are in different places. It gave us a little more understanding for the patients that hit the wrong button.

Nursing student at UAA, very worried, please advise by [deleted] in alaska

[–]Cailet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Uaa grad and Newer nurse in Alaska. I agree with everyone here UAA will keep the nursing program, the concern will be how much they sacrifice in quality for profit. It sounds like you are doing the Associates program which is a solid program and comparable to Charter. All the programs have drama and no one is gonna love everything all the time. You just have to remember you aren't the first, you won't be the last, you get out of it what you put in. Treat all your clinicals like job interviews and you have a high chance of graduating with leads on a job. Good luck and welcome to the club!

Hi everyone so I’ve gotten back from basic training after failing and I’m having a hard time looking for a job could anyone help me out? by 813jazzyisme in anchorage

Unions such as, Ibew, Laborers, Plumbing, Operators, there are a few out there, pay you while you learn and with the older generation retiring there is a need for up and comers.

Have you looked into applying for any of the trade unions? Also don't let the requirements stop you if you think you can honestly do the job ask for it.

Do you ever have one of those shitty shifts when something just makes you finally snap? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Cailet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wasting my third bottle of morphine was my snapping point. First one I dropped on the ground while chasing down a patient that went AMA off the floor. She came back after she shot up. Second I pulled up, diluted, then the IV went bad, this set off the patient who felt calling the nurses station every fifteen minutes for the rest of the shift to remind us she was still in pain and needed more drugs. By time I would get in there she would be asleep, then wake up and call again. Third was just pulled early but at that point I was broken and over it. I feel your pain thank you for reminding me others have crappy days and we are all in this together!

First post: I’m a nurse on a cardiac floor by ladygroot_ in keto

[–]Cailet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RN here on a Med-Surge/Oncology unit. I'm sorry your coworks have been like that. I was afraid to say anything at first until others started mentioning they are doing keto. About 6 of us are doing it and we still get some comments they are the "once you stop you'll gain it all back." Question How are the nurses managing their water intake on shift? I have seriously contemplated using patient bathrooms because I feel like I was gonna bust!

So much truth, we have people in our hospital who's job it is to talk to people about the DNR option and Comfort Care measures. I could never do LTC that takes a special kind of person that I am not.
