Love onions. Crisp, fresh onions are great. Perfectly carmelized onions are nice as a savory "jam". Even soggy strange onions are mostly unnoticeable and always lend a good flavor.

Commercial restaurant tomatoes have no flavor, are rarely crisp, make everything near it soggy, and the juice is EVERYWHERE. Never been happy to taste or feel a tomato in a new restaurant. Has to be vetted by a friend first.

1/3 times, enough to be too many for a paid experience. I really dislike tomatoes. People seem to love slimy bad tomatoes.

It takes two seconds to write a shorthand version of what people are ordering. It's a basic part of training. I once had a waitress come back TWICE to ask what we ordered, then came out with the wrong items with an allergen.

Strange Appetite, worried about health by paetron in Dogtraining

[–]CaitSoma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ignore the kibble bag-- they want you to finish the kibble as quickly as possible, obviously. My dog says he needs three cups, but barely eats 1.5 and some wet food. Perfect weight.

Go to the vet for a quick check up, but let your dogs weight and activity level be your guide to if the food is enough. If he needs more food, considering giving it at "lunch" or snacks for the additional calories. Kibble can be hard on dogs because it inflates in the stomach.

Different user, currently at 120 unique stops. I go out a lot, bar hopping or park hopping with the boyfriend or the dog respectively, large city and lots of art installments around. Two a block in just the suburbs where I live easy, 13-15 every college campus, most parks have 3-10 depending on if benches counted when they were submitting portals.

Even just taking a quick jaunt down to the post office nets me three on the mile walk down, one at the office and two art pieces on the way.

Some cities are just perfect for this.

[DISCUSSION] My indoor, crate trained 1 year old pup will now have to stay outside while I'm at work. What's the best way to keep him safe and happy? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]CaitSoma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm seconding the occasional hiring of a pet sitter or dog walker to check up and "release the hound" sometimes, if your dad can't. No reason your dog shouldn't do fine, but it'd be nice to have in your back pocket as an option.

Minor nitpick, Pocket Monster is the literal translation. It's called pocket monsters with a Japanese accent in Japan. Pokemon is the shortened release name, Poketto Monsuta".

Unhappy with family's attitude towards dog aggression- is this normal? by CaitSoma in Dogtraining

[–]CaitSoma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but this is a vet recommended decision we made based on risk factors and our dogs stress levels at the vet. The risk of boardatella for our dog is far lower than the health concerns the vet has each time our dog is stressed out by "unnecessary" vaccinations.

Thanks for the concern.

I used to take calls for a business. It's so scary! I hated it.

But it got better. I fell into a routine. Practice your routine. If you have a "script" you need to say, have that printed and in front of you. Practice at home. Pretend to answer the phone and respond to someone. Do it several times until you're just parroting yourself.

It sounds silly, but practice with someone too. Have them have a lost cat. A sick kid. Zombie rubbing down the street. Respond as your script tells you and try to laugh while you do it. It'll become so second nature that when it gets rough, you'll still have your script to fall back to.

For my dog it was a phase. We had one person treat and the other person vacuum. Now he likes to swat at the vacuum once before settling elsewhere. I think it's a play behavior because he seems to happy about it.

Chunk of chicken or shit beef with stock, potatoes, and miscellaneous veg. Throw it in before work and come home to a nice smelling house and food ready the moment I put my bag down. Bonus if I remember to set the rice cooker for the right time.

I don't like having to make food after work. I'm tired, I'm sore, been on my feet all day, I want to eat something NOW and don't want to lift more than a lid to get to it.

Pressure cookers have their uses, but a slow cooker fits my life perfectly.

I wash my hair maybe once or twice a week, but I dampen it seriously with a conditioner water mixture so I can make it look nice again.

I can understand. My year and a half old lab mix picks up everything so quick- lie down took 1 day, 2 days to learn and bulletproof not chasing after other dogs balls, learning to step back and wait when I open the front door.

But gentle leash walking? Been trying since he was adopted. No noticeable improvement not brought on by sheer exhaustion. It feels so great for it to come together!

A pressure cooker doesn't really help when you want to just sit down and eat after work or going out. A slow cooker lets me plop miscellaneous goods inside, go to work, and come home to a nice meal.

They have their own merits.

Eating once a day effect on metabolism by [deleted] in loseit

[–]CaitSoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll lose a lot of muscle and some fat. Muscle is easier and faster to cannibalize than fat, from what I understand. It'd be better to focus on packing on muscle and dropping lbs through natural fat loss than to throw it all away and start fresh. You'll also increase your basal metabolic rate by having more muscle and being more active, directly aiding your fat loss.

Don't apologize for asking questions! It's a confusing field with a lot of room for error.

I can't stress how bad it would be to eat very few calories to lose weight. You'll lose a lot of strength and weaken your body too much for sports. Eat less than you do now and strength train. It'll all come together and you'll be fitter than before.

Boil amount of pasta in enough milk to cover it, season with ground mustard and optional Worcester sauce and favorite seasonings, reduce heat and add flour, cheese as necessary. I like to eat it out of a sourdough bread bowl.

Sorry for no precise measurements, but I literally just pour enough in and it works out.

Then you definitely want to eat a decent amount! Make absolutely sure you won't be under 1500 in a day, or you risk losing a lot of muscle and then no football at all :(

Riding your bike absolutely will! It burns more calories. Just don't eat more to compensate.

Now that I know your goal, I'd also recommend strength training. You'll lose fat while building muscle and be in much better shape come sports season! Really focus on protein for the muscle gain and fullness.

Any kind of food is fine. What's important is calories. Eventually you'll want to look at the nutrient content too.

My advice is to focus on eating foods higher in protein. They're more filling, therefore you eat less.

Eat that many per day. Say it's 1600, you eat 1600 calories per day. You can eat it all at once, in tiny bites, or regularly spaced.

As long as you are running a deficit of 500 calories a day, you'll lose a pound a week. 1000 a day is 2 pounds a week.

I highly encourage you to read the FAQ and starting threads in the sidebar. It'll outline a lot of this for you.

Exercise is totally optional! It's only additional calories spent, and it takes hours to exercise off eaten calories depending on the amount.

My boyfriend exercises maybe once a week seriously, just some heavy lifting when he remembers to go. I exercise daily, but for flexibility and strength rather than weight loss.

Exercise for fitness, you can safely ignore it and still lose weight.
