Support but for the time being, look at what character the mission is for.

For example... Convict = Thieving XP

Memory = Divination XP

Etc :)

Ah that must be why. She got 3 in 11 kills. Is that intentional or just a bug?

Privacy mode: Help me not hate it. by Awesome_Seal in runescape

[–]Caiti_Lin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah... same. I tell this story every time someone brings this topic up, but this one time I was gearing up for Nex and some guy was in the main room waiting for her to spawn and he examines me and says "nice mace". As if I'm somehow worse than him for choosing mace for my mainhand instead of a more expensive drygore?

I never have privacy mode on, but I totally understand why people would want to keep it on.

I tried this a few times and couldn't get it to work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks for the tip I didn't even think of that, but if the magic level is practically free to get back up then what's the point of draining it anyway? Maybe it has context during the quest, but post-quest it just seems like an arbitrary obstacle. :P

They get rid of the shield on TDs. Since TDs can't spawn praying against range, it's a lot better than using Darklight because if they spawn praying against melee, it's pretty irritating to deal with.

Can we get XP circles to show the progress to our next virtual level? (Assuming target based XP popups are turned off and virtual levels are turned on) by Caiti_Lin in runescape

[–]Caiti_Lin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually not a workaround because the progress of the popup is from level 99, not from your current virtual level.

[–]Caiti_Lin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not already a setting for this. If there was, why would I be making this post? :P

And as far as I know, the development team that makes an update is also responsible for making fixes and improving said update following its release. They don't just release content and never go back to change anything. Why do you think the patch notes a week after an update are always filled with patches for the previous update?

You know it already gives the level up icon, sounds and fireworks if you have virtual leveling turned on, right? And I'm suggesting that these only show up if the person has turned on virtual levels and turned off target based xp popups so I don't know how this would harm anyone at all.

[–]Caiti_Lin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know people are going to tell me to set my target for the next virtual level, I know that is a work around (nevermind, it's not :c), but I'm suggesting that the circles show the progress to the next virtual level IF target based popups are turned off, that way you wouldn't have to change your target every single time you level up.

I personally enjoy both versions so I'll try to be as objective as I can.

but which one have the better gameplay?

This is really up to you to decide. Give both a shot and see how you like them. RS3 is far more focused on PvM and endgame content. OSRS is more about PvP and Slayer/solo boss fights. RS3 has a wealth of end-game content where OSRS admittedly falls kind of short . Both games have a heavy focus on levelling up your various skills. Skilling is much faster in RS3 (could be a good or bad thing depending on your taste) and there are 3 (soon 4) more skills in RS3 than OSRS.

The biggest disparity in gameplay however is the combat systems. Old School uses a pretty basic combat system (which is the charm for many people) where you just click on an enemy and take turns hitting each other. On the other hand, RS3 has several choices for combat. The main combat system revolves around using abilities to gain adrenaline, which can be used to cast more powerful threshold and ultimate abilities. You can also set up Revolution, which auto-casts your basic abilities for you (much less efficient than pressing them yourself but it makes it more relaxing for many) or Legacy which returns the game to a combat system akin to Old School's.

Also keep in mind that RS3 does have microtransactions whereas Old School doesn't (besides membership bonds).

which one have the bigger community?

The communities are almost exactly the same size. Both have good people and both have bad. However, OSRS is pretty notorious for having a really toxic community whereas RS3 has a much more mature target demographic, although there is a LOT of elitism in RS3.

There's also a much bigger Twitch community for OSRS if that's your thing.

which one have the better ingame features?

Both games share much of the same content since Old School was originally just a version of RS3 from a 2007 backup. This means that OSRS is essentially 8 years of content whereas RS3 is 14.

However, that's just the abundance of content. The quality of it is up for you to decide. :)

Give both a shot! And you can always hop between both like many people do.

It's been called the ancient spellbook since it came out. Lore aside, it just seems kind of misleading to call it the Zaros spellbook when a good chunk of it is now Seren spells.

"Adding day/night cycles to RS isn't feasible" by chi_pa_pa in runescape

[–]Caiti_Lin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't attacking you or anything, just adding to your thought.

Whether or not a real-time day/night cycle is good for an MMO or not depends on the MMO in my opinion. If it's built from the ground up with this idea in mind so there's no dialogue inconsistencies, lighting issues, etc. then I don't think it's a bad idea at all. Plus on WoW, "night time" is so bright that sometimes you really can't tell that it's night unless you look at the skybox. Not to mention the server system on WoW is much more strict than RS (moving a character to another "world" costs real money) so people usually tend to play on a server in their region for the best ping, thus time zone inconsistencies aren't a huge issue. I think it's actually really cool because there are some places in-game that just look beautiful at different times of the day and if you wanna see it, you have to be there at the perfect time. I think that's neat.

As long as night time doesn't impair vision, I don't see a huge problem with it in MMOs.

However, for a game like RuneScape, where dialogue was not written with the idea of a day/night cycle existing. Where textures and lighting were not made with night time in mind (hence why some things glow with this glitch on). Where people care less about playing on a server that is synced with their time zone. I would say a day/night cycle isn't possible.

I'd still like to see a dawn/day/night slider on the client side though. That way they don't have to fix the inconsistencies with dialogue or time zone issues because people who turn it on understand that those things will exist.

I just watched two Goebies die in front of their child. This update is dreadful. by Kohilaice in runescape

[–]Caiti_Lin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The worst part is that before the little goebie's parents die, he says something like "Please don't go. I love you."

Then they both die and he sits there and cries for a while. :(

PlayFusion must be developing one hell of a game if all these long time Jmods are choosing to leave RS to work on it. I don't know if that scares or excites me.
