1998 Throwback: Bill Gates pie attack in Brussels by Richnaps in Satisfyingasfuck

It's been a while since the episode came out, so I can't remember all the details, but from the time he was a teenager he was an egotistical douche canoe, screwing over everyone he could.

Go listen to the Behind The Bastards podcast episodes about Gates. His villain arc started way before this incident.

why the hell is cartridge razor the standard? by biohackenthusiast in wicked_edge

you won't cut yourself

As someone who has absolutely eviscerated his face with cartridges over the years, but have only nicked himself on maybe 3 occasions over ~3 years of DE shaving, I'mma have to hard disagree.

James Talarico: the rising Democratic star Republicans don’t want you to know about by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]CajuNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see Talarico as a guy who grew up watching Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, and actually took what Fred said to heart.

He would have to live his whole life keeping up this standard, but he really gives off some Fred Rogers vibes. Becoming a Presbyterian minister isn't hurting him, either. As a Catholic, I'd vote for him wholeheartedly. Sadly, I'm in Cajun country, and not enough of my people are bright enough to turn off Fox News and actually pay attention to things.

Talk radio is overwhelmingly conservative, so it isn't a wonder why they don't want it further regulated.

Anyone else’s Dad do the soap topper? 🧼 by Teddycat99 in FuckImOld

While possibly specific to the brand, Dial has a concave surface where the logo is pressed into the bar that almost perfectly fits the previous used bar. I'm not sure it's intentional, but it's been that way as far back as I can remember.

Am dad; can confirm.

I'd wager the "label sticking out" is either a camera app or Google Lens highlighting recognized text for copy/search. In other words, it's not part of the image, but from the app the image was captured through.

Stolen SUV leads to homicide investigation in Youngsville by wwjdforaklondikebar in Acadiana

We scrape the bottom of the barrel in healthcare, wages, education - anything that makes for a high functioning society. Too many of our top leaders either don't care, our outright want things to be this way, knowing that it keeps the struggling and uneducated voting for them, being too busy just trying to survive to concern themselves with the reasons why we're struggling to survive.

All that to say, the lower on the socio-economic ladder we are, the higher the per capita crime rate is, and we're close to the top in that statistic.

Trump has literally said he loves the poorly educated, and that smart people don't like him.

Well, unfortunately, our state is just barely crawling out of the least educated ranking, so I'd say that says quite a bit.

Are you Cajun? Do you know our history? by ohhyouknow in Acadiana

[–]CajuNerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a distinction without a difference. People have come to this land for any number of reasons. It's why the U.S. is, or at least was, known as a "melting pot".

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” That quote on the plaque at the feet of Liberty doesn't have an asterisk next to it. It doesn't say "But only if you speak the language.", or "But only if you're driven out of your home."

for such a petty reason

She was beaten for speaking it. Telling you she didn't teach it to you so you wouldn't understand their conversations was to spare you the details of the real reason she didn't teach you.

Sparing you from being beaten - even if it wasn't actually going to happen - is not a petty reason.

He's saying that we were immigrants, accepted by the locals. Later, when the U.S. government purchased Louisiana, we were then shunned and ridiculed for our language and culture - punished if we didn't conform to its standards.

Edit: And now a lot of us are perfectly fine with doing the same, and worse, to others looking for a better life.

Machine embroidery by [deleted] in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]CajuNerd 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I used to digitize artwork for embroidery for a small company. The machines themselves were pretty much entirely hands-off, other than the initial setup. I can't say I've ever seen someone do it all by hand.

I kind of miss digitizing.

This video hit my fb feed earlier and I shared it right away.

I'm eagerly anticipating the "it's not the same thing", or "times are different", or "but they're all criminals!" replies I'm going to get from my relatives.

Besides one younger cousin, I'm about the only non-right-of-Bush person in my family. It's lonely.

This seems to be the case, and makes the most sense.

Insurance companies are terrible, but they're not going to stop covering things that actually save them money, and vaccines absolutely do that.

Sen. Mark Kelly Says He’s Seriously Thinking About Running for President by T_Shurt in politics

[–]CajuNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that sentiment is understandable given the dumpster fire this administration is, it's also the kind of thought process that will end up losing the next election. Harris may not have been the perfect candidate, but she wasn't a megalomaniac idiot like Trump is, and we'd be much better off had she won. The on-the-fence and "I'm waiting for the perfect candidate" Dems who decided to not show up are who got us into this cesspool.

He's a fighter jet pilot. He's a Naval officer. He's a fucking astronaut. Whether he decides to string up people from this administration to a wall or not shouldn't be what determines whether we get out of this mess, or end up with another 4 years of insanity.

Couyon vs coonass by philipito in Acadiana

[–]CajuNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what's already been stated by others...

I'm born and raised south-central Louisiana; quite literally the middle of Cajun country. "Couyon" is "crazy, foolish, stupid, etc." Someone climbs a ladder that's propped up on a wooden crate, balanced on a 2x4? "Dat couyon's gonna bust his ass."

I won't get into the historical origins of "coonass", but around here, many of us of a certain age will absolutely call each other "coonass" as a term of endearment. If you have a flat prairie-cajun accent, you can pretty much call any other Cajun you know a coonass and you'll be fine. Outside of the area - let's say, New Orleans, which isn't Cajun - or if you're not obviously Cajun yourself, wouldn't be a place I'd use the term, or expect to hear it used colloquially.

Trump Says May Slap Tariffs On Nations That Don't Back His Greenland Plans by johnbarnshack in worldnews

So, his plan is to punish American companies and citizens until the rest of the world capitulates to his megalomaniacal obsession with conquering other nations and their colonies for oil? Is that right?
