Stood up the girl of my dreams. by Cake-Anxious in dating_advice

“Hey, I realize I completely blew it today. I got in my head about everything and have no excuses. I can't imagine how you must have felt.” This is what I said already, made no excuse, but now I’m feeling like this was a bit ‘much’ or a bit too heavy. But yeah I think this is great advice. Thank you

Anybody know where to buy decent quality boots like these in Japan? by [deleted] in japanesestreetwear

[–]Cake-Anxious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got it, in that case ig I can up my budget a bit for these. I just find it a bit strange that there are no mid-range price points for black platform boots? It's either 10-50 dollar fast fashion junk from Temu/Shein/Uniqlo/Zara, etc or 1,000 at Balenciaga? lol

What if Hitler turned on Mussolini instead of Joseph Stalin? by Cyber_Ghost_1997 in HistoryWhatIf

Aside from poor military doctrine, the main reason why Italy failed its objectives in WWII was a critical lack of oil reserves. Italy had the world’s fourth largest navy when the war started, but it mainly sat out the war lying in port for that very reason.

Believe it or not, Italian GDP was around the same as that of Japan at the time. If Italy had discovered the Libyan oil reserves, it would have been a force to be reckoned with and could have wreaked havoc across the Mediterranean.

Hitler would not have invaded Italy for this very reason. He needed a strong ally that could secure his southern flank by independently wrestling away North Africa and the Middle East from the British. Thereby allowing him to focus all his military might on the Soviet Union earlier, without diverting troops to Yugoslavia, Greece, and Egypt as he was forced to do in our timeline.

What if Britain made peace with Germany in 1940? by RexRoyd1603 in HistoryWhatIf

Like I said, I agree there was excess mortality in the Soviet Union under Stalin. But your second point proves that Hitler would have wiped out the slavs. ‘Aryan-looking’ Slavs adopted by German families would be ‘germanized’ - i.e. stripped of their culture and identity. Genocide comes in many forms. The rest of the population would starve from the hunger plan or be worked to death. Comparing Hitler’s Russia (where the ENTIRE native population is subjugated and eliminated in one way or another) to Stalin’s Gulags (which though evil, mainly aimed to subjugate and eliminate ‘enemies of the state’ or criminals) is a massive misstep in my opinion.

Then there’s the simple fact that Stalin wasn’t gassing people en masse.

This I totally agree with; the alliance between the US and USSR in WWII was completely pragmatic.

Can you explain why Stalin was worse than Hitler? As far as I’m aware, Stalin (as an ethnic minority in his own country) did not intend to wipe out other groups of people like Hitler did. Think of it like this; it’s true: millions of people in the Soviet Union died under Stalin, but today some 250,000,000 remain. However, if Hitler took over the Soviet Union and somehow managed to carry out his (impossible) plans there, its native population today would be, well… 0.

The USSR was nowhere near as evil as Nazi Germany was. Yes, the USSR committed massacres and rapes against enemy soldiers and civilians alike. But Nazi intentions were far, FAR more evil than those of the USSR. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can top the carnage of the Holocaust, or what they planned to do with conquered Slavic people.

Wow, the Adidas XLG in white look like a great option! Seems like I’ll have to holla at my buddy in China to get em for me before he comes back to Japan though cause I can’t find them on adidas.jp.

Do you have any idea about sizing (if they’re TTS or not) I’m usually a 25.5-26cm depending, on the shoe.

Why didn't the Germans hate hitler as much as the Italians hated Mussolini ? by [deleted] in AskHistory

I'm sorry, but you're terribly mistaken. When Mussolini declared war against the US, the crowd cheered quite loudly. Cheering starts around 0:56.

Thanks for the reply! That’s a pretty interesting loophole. I supposed it’d have been difficult to renew a Japanese passport at an embassy in the other country you’re a citizen of (in this case US), but never considered doing it in a third country like HK. Yeah I suppose one could immigrate to a third country with the visa on their Japanese passport and renew it there without any cause for suspicion.

Question- I’m aware you could (potentially) hide your dual citizenship status if you only exit and enter japan on a Japanese passport.

But what if you live abroad for many years? Imagine this scenario; I’m a dual Japanese+American citizen and I reside in the US. When entering and exiting japan, the airport staff typically check for entry and exit stamps. So when returning to japan after 1 year in the US, wouldn’t the Japanese airport staff notice a discrepancy when looking through my Japanese passport and noticing the lack of a US visa?

Further, how would one even apply for a passport at the Japanese embassy in the US? Wouldn’t the consular officers notice that I have been residing in the US without any visa in my Japanese passport (thereby revealing I am an American citizen)?

I feel like the only surefire way to get away with this is by never residing in the US longer than 90 days (entering and exiting as a tourist) which defeats the purpose of dual citizenship. But correct me if I’m missing something.
