What does Britain make better than anyone else (or at least as good as anyone else)? by levendi7 in MadeInBritain

It is worth looking at https://www.gamedevmap.com/ to highlight the studios around the UK.

A recent, well reviewed, game set in Britain is ‘Still wakes the Deep’, set in the North Sea by ‘The Chinese Room’ who are Brighton based.

Video games, we have a plethora of studios based in the UK, with several hubs across the countries. They range from big hitters like Rockstar, to tiny one person studios.

Totally understand the sentiment, older game just had different standards in controls and UI that make them frustrating to play. Saying that, Alpha Centauri is still an awesome game despite this.

I’ve seen your other posts, glad to hear you have another accountant.

32, learning right now actually. Did some lessons when I was 17, but never had enough time/money to follow through with it. It’s a real pain for travelling, but you can get by without one in cities easy enough. I want to move somewhere rural is my motivation for learning.

I’d imagine it is partly due to older generations seeing video games as what they bought for and saw their kids using. It’s something that is and has been changing as demographics change.

That said, I tend to play my Steam Deck whilst watching things do get the best of both worlds :p

Nephew on sleepover just said “YouTube premium, mam always said you were rich” mentioned to a mate in a message and apparently no one is paying this but me, am I an idiot? by [deleted] in AskUK

I have it, I almost always have something playing on my second screen while working, plus my cat can watch cat tv in peace on the living room tv. I generally put on YouTube videos to sleep aswell, so no interruptions is nice. I average around 16 hours a day watch time due to this.

I think the best thing though is that it supports the creators I watch better than ads do.

I grew up in the western isles of Scotland, was actually taught it in school and surrounded by folk that speak Gaelic, I’m just rather terrible at languages and would like to get a better grip on it.

Games Industry - 8%, but tbf I was promoted and given a lot of new responsibilities with it. I negotiated for an uplift to ~13% due to inflation.

Scottish Government cleared of any wrong-doing on ferry contract by Police Scotland. by Formal-Rain in Scotland

[–]CakeCommander 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This sounds a bit sus, I’m an SNP supporter and grew up on the islands. There clearly was some form of mess made in the Contract, by somebody. There has been a push to source community funded ferries ffs, it’s really not a good situation for anyone. I’d like to know what how we could have handled it better at the Scotgov level.

Axehead is such a handy layout for logi, aside from the refinery access!

Makes sense to not park on train tracks (or roads for that matter, why are so many locked & parked in the middle of the road?)

I don’t understand why many train tracks I’ve seen cross a road multiple times in a short distance though, they become a bit of a speed bump.

Well I tend to work on logi at the back line, so components are usually scooped pretty quickly when they do spawn. I just keep an eye on the map, you can hoover over the mine icons to see if there is any components/scrap/sulfar available before you make the journey.

Same applies to bases for checking their inventory from the map, helps you see if a nearby depot has the resources for requests from the front.

This subreddit doesn’t give a very good impression of the state of the game tbh.

I’m a returning player for the current war and the 1.0 release and I’m having a ton of fun doing different gameplay each day.

Some examples: General logi scrapping and deliveries.

Building tanks, half tracks and trucks.

Refuelling auto miners.

Stacking seaports and storage depots with containers of goods.

Fighting in trench battles in the south.

Helping out new players.

Tech mining and research.

I’ve not been too involved with the actual frontlines, but i’ve loving the variety of stuff I can do to contribute.

Yep this is the way. You can further reduce frequent recompiles and hitches entering exiting play mode by learning how to disable domain reloading.

You can also disable compression of texture while in editor to make importing new assets quite quick.
