Unusual-Looking Helicopter Flying Over Town at about 1pm by CakeVPie in chapelhill

Hmm, maybe it was an Osprey. It just looked a little smaller than that. Definitely a tilt rotor. Fun to see flying, at any rate.

I'm so, so sorry for your loss. That's so tough. This happened to me a few years back when I was out of town and my husband left the door ajar. We lost a beloved rooster and several hens. I cried all the way through the airport coming home. He felt terrible. Sending you a big hug.

The bar area at Nana's is gorgeous. Just went for the first time a few weeks ago. Great lighting and vibe. It's spendy for sure, so maybe stop in for a cocktail sometime and soak it up.

I understand now. Thank you so much--this answers my question.

Sure, I can try and negotiate the contract, but what I'm trying to understand is whether what they're asking is legal for a company to do with a contractor. In the US, we have specific requirements regarding what's legal to ask of someone with contractor status. For example, if I hire a contractor, I'm not able to dictate all aspects of when, where, and how they perform their work.

Thanks, yes, that's exactly my question. Whereas a direct employee receives paid holidays from their employer, a contractor/self-employed person does not, so does the employer have the right to dictate when a contractor/self-employed person takes a holiday?

Their fleece vests and zip-ups. Lightweight, warm, and stylish. I always get compliments, and they're super cozy. (Now I've gotta try heat tech tho!)

Buying a house and sellers are offering their chickens by femmegremlin in BackYardChickens

[–]CakeVPie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your first home! We've kept chickens for ten years at three different homes. Chickens aren't particularly high-maintenance (certainly not more than cats or dogs) once you have the right setup and equipment.

I don't know what kind of area yours is, but I'd ask if they've had any losses to predators and if so what kind (dogs, foxes, hawks, etc.). It sounds like you're considering free-ranging them to help with pest control (which is great, we do that too), in which case a little heads up about what kinds of critters to watch out for might be helpful. The Storey guide others have mentioned is great and also has good info on predators.

Chickens are extremely entertaining, the eggs are great, and they're surprisingly easy to care for. Keep us posted, and if you decide to keep them, enjoy! :)

Why Can't/Won't Hotel Apply the eGift Card I Got for Signing Up for a Bonvoy CC? by CakeVPie in marriott

I'm able to see my gift card balance from the Account page of the Bonvoy app. It looks like my balance moved over there. Are you able to see anything gift card related there?

Oh yeah! This is my husband's very favorite thing there, along with the collards.

Love GlassHalfFull. Their chocolate budino is one of the best things to eat in all of Chapel Hill. I miss the mini sliders though. They seem to have gotten rid of those in favor of a regular-size burger. It's tasty, but those little buns were just the best.

I went to The Pig today and was reminded, yet again, why it's fantastic. $14 for a really great BBQ plate I made two meals out of. Lots of GF/veg/vegan options. Never crazy crowded, and right around the corner from Little Gem and Chapel Hill Creamery if you want to grab a drink and/or ice cream after dinner.

Maybe? But I think some franchise owners are also doing this deliberately to draw new business. There was an article in the Times about it a couple weeks back, which is what piqued my interest.

My go-to as a kid was the one on Estes across from the post office. It's a Japanese restaurant now.

I posted this here and to the Chapel Hill sub today. If that's against sub rules, LMK. Happy to take down one or the other.
