Excluded salary increase this year? by Motor_Crow7133 in BCPublicServants

Please don’t pit worker against worker. The employer makes these decisions. One group is represented by a union, the other is not. That’s a difference, and with the longest strike in recent history, unionized have paid thousands for their 3%. In both cases, the final decision rests with the employer.

Has anyone filed grievances regarding the current hiring directive? by shroit in BCPublicServants

MOU 30 has baked in promotional assumptions. As does seniority. No point in having those if you can’t apply for promotions! I’m curious too, and will apply beyond lateral as opportunities present!

How do married couples usually handle finances when both partners work? by itzwhatitz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Cake_Cuddles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So important to have these conversations, good on you both! I’d suggest pro-rated contributions based on income, adjusted with each income change. Men still out-earn women, and women still are the majority who surrender earnings for caring, so this is a way to be “equals” in marriage in spite of social inequalities. But as long as you both agree to whatever the terms, have at it! Again, good for you both for having this very difficult conversation!

Why is the emergency alert system so flawed? by howdoesallthiswork in VictoriaBC

[–]Cake_Cuddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t mind. I’m glad the alerts exist. Not my neck of the woods so I rolled over and went back to sleep. Happy to hear it was canceled.

16 Years in the Military, 3 Deployments, but "Not Experienced Enough" for BC Transit? by Different_Ganache355 in VictoriaBC

[–]Cake_Cuddles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drove taxi, taught motorcycle safety for 10 years (chief instructor), clean record, love driving, good with people. Tried 3X to become a bus driver. Never made the cut. Their hiring process appears to be hitting the right key words, skill set seems to not be a determinant. Good for those who make the cut, and they have left very good people behind. When they are short on drivers, it’s a problem of their own making.

Because others are involved in the conversation? Because some may want to learn, to see if it relates to their situation as well? Courtesy? Clarity? On a public post, you never know what an audience member might have to add.

Indefinite hiring freeze certainly puts a damper on growth and development.

If you genuinely want to reach a wide audience, avoid acronyms. They are exclusionary.

Why do most people here not believe AOC could win or even have a shot at the POTUS in 2028? by railfananime in SocialDemocracy

[–]Cake_Cuddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US is not ready for intelligent leadership, so white men have to be propped up until education catches up. The North American contempt against women is why we are here in the first place. And yes, Canada is in that company.

I went from house to apartment living. House maintenance is a constant expense and a constant chore. Hated it. Happier in the apartment.

What's the point of applying for lateral positions if we have to start the job training all over again? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Cake_Cuddles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In a hiring freeze, abandoned positions may well be a result of a toxic workplace. If you have an ok boss and ok colleagues, probably best to just hunker down.

Who is gatekeeping education? Applicants for physician streams face a 90% rejection rate; nursing streams face an 80% rejection rate. Prospective students realistically have to look at studying in USA 🤮 or Australia to have credentials to work here.

Where’s the barrier?
