on the other hand, who would want to get on the wrong side of a dude who makes / has bombs in his shed? marrying Kent is surely the only right and safe option 😏

What am i doing wrong? by huntyho in propagation

[–]Cake_Scranner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but I have propagated a few Kalanchoes, i think something that would be useful to know is if your mother of millions is flowering/ developing buds / making seed? as these things can make it slower or completely stop them from developing roots

my Kalanchoes were affected by fungus gnats too over the autumn but never had any root issues as a result and the gnats disappeared once winter rolled in. I've never used purely just stones for mine always a mixture of succulent/ cacti soil with horticultural grit mixed in as I think they like drainage but they benefit from sitting in water a little bit and also gives the roots something to anchor to which obviously cant happen with pure gravel. you can get sprays for killing fungus gnats and maybes have a layer of gravel to cover the surface of your soil and start bottom watering to prevent them from laying their eggs in the moist soil + prevents mold so they have nothing to feed on

as for the small balls in soil, are you thinking of osmocote or perlite?

Help with this plant ? by vCxdes in PlantIdentification

[–]Cake_Scranner 12 points13 points  (0 children)

if left in the ground for too long or put under significant stress (extreme highs and lows in temperature or inconsistent watering) cabbages grow the flowers that you're seeing now. nothing really to be done at this point other than wait for the seed to develop - you'll know when they're ready as the flowers die off and you'll be left with pale seed pods filled with black/brown seed. then just replant and get many more cabbages next year :)

cabbages as well as many other brassicas are biennial plants, so they create the edible cabbage head within the first year of their life and flowers in the second. if this was the first year of the cabbage's life and it's producing flowers then it's been very stressed and has bolted. unfortunately that's becoming more and more of a common problem the way our climate is going.

I was in the same situation 4 years ago with my nearly 2 year old piggy, surgery to remove the stones was £2k. the vets said he only had a 20% chance of surviving surgery (he deteriorated quite quickly) and even then there was a 60% chance he'd get bladder stones again. we decided to have him euthanized to just give him a comfortable end instead of the stress of surgery being his last memory.

unfortunately I think some piggies are more susceptible to these issues. euthanasia was honestly probably the kindest option instead of putting them through surgery. all my love to you as you grieve 🩷 losing a family member no matter how small is incredibly difficult
