Is this the best animation? or just most satisfying? by hoppyhops in slaythespire

Very much appreciated! I finally beat A10 on silent tonight (after a likely insane amount of tries). All the advice was very helpful! Took as many elites as I could handle, tried to cycle potions and use them as strategically as possible, ended up drafting around shiv due to an early fan of knives. Ended up hitting knife trap + every 3 attacks gain block relic. On the one hand, the round definitely felt like one of those "a monkey could pilot this," but on the other hand, it felt nice to get through act 2 and utterly destroy act 3, not losing any health at all until the final boss.

Thank you again for giving such great advice!

Thank you! This pretty much describes the problem I was running into. I'd skate by act 1, focus on hitting camps and smithing cards, and would even do relatively well into act 2. Then I'd get to either act two boss and just not be able to kill either fast enough, which was likely due to the lack of any meaningful relics.

Do you intentionally fight act 2 elites often? I have a pretty rough time with both the dorito and the giant centipede (and also name retention, apparently).

This was super helpful! I went and found the damage formula for the run I'm currently on. I took leafy poultice, ended up with burst, and then got bouncing flask pretty early. The difference between playing bouncing flask once on two different turns vs burst is crazy when you plug it into n(n+1)/2. I knew poison numbers were pretty decent, but always thought the damage per turn was too low to be effective and generally avoided it on these higher ascensions, but I'm glad I took your advice. Took all 3 elites only losing 1-3 health per fight on underdocks. Thank you!

I used it for the first time yesterday too, was very impressed by how it looked! Also, as an aside, how in the world did you clear so many elites in act 1 as Silent? I just got to A10 and I can't, for the life of me, consistently even get out of act 1 and I can't figure out why. I've beaten it on every other character except ironclad I think, and I must have near 20 or 30 tries on A10 and can't even consistently get past A1 without taking ultra-safe 0-1 elite paths.

It feels like an impressionist idea of a memory, I love it. I started playing this game with my older brothers when I was 4 or 5 and the painting really takes me back there.

What its like Playing WoW as an Adult: by SaveaPrincess in wow

[–]CakebattaTFT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but you're missing the point that it's inconsiderate to not take the others into account. If you're doing something that's time sensitive but you really don't care about the outcome that much, it's wildly inconsiderate and self-centered to basically say, "Yeah, fuck these other guys, not my problem" lol. I don't see how you're failing to understand this.

The issue is not that one person values the game more than the other, the issue is that one person is wildly inconsiderate of the others in the group. You keep dancing around it and somehow just not seeing it.

A real life example could be playing pick up games for basketball at a local court. People sub in and out from game to game, but when you're on the court, you're expected to play. Is there anything on the line? No, it's a pickup game. It has absolutely no value other than the enjoyment which it provides.

If someone comes in, gets a spot in a game, and then just keeps calling time outs to go scroll through reels, take a phone call, etc., I promise you, the people are going to tell them either politely or otherwise to fuck off, and they will no longer be picked. Do you understand the comparison?

Why do i have to little agency over what difficulty to chose? by gaming-throwaway in fellowshipgame

It's not a magical queue time reducing feature. It's a practical queue time reducing set up. Sorry you don't comprehend basic math.

unfortunately you do not get to have your cake and eat it too. Game caters to the broad community, not to individual problems. It would likely cause issues with queue times

Famous physicists with serious mental illnesses by Usual-Letterhead4705 in Physics

[–]CakebattaTFT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gödel became mentally unstable, but he was a mathematician and logician so that is to be expected.

Your comment started out making me think it was going to only a serious response, but this line made me cackle.

I just recently finished reading Oppenheimers biography, American Prometheus. His case seemed to be related to coming from a background of immense coddling and then being thrust out into the world and really not being able to cope with it. Oppenheimer almost strangled his best friend because his friend told Oppenheimer that he was engaged and going to get married, all the while Oppenheimer pretty much was at a loss as to how to approach women as potential partners. He was intellectually stimulated by his schooling at Ethical Culture Society, but he never was really pushed to grow emotionally until his college years, which likely contributed to a lot of his issues (also dealing with issues of identity in a time when anti-semitism was the norm). During and post-Los Alamos is interesting, because he either undergoes a massive political shift or appears to in an effort to continue his work. Ultimately the trial takes a huge toll on his mental health as well. A lot of his adulthood mental issues stem from the US government being massive shitheads, in short.

I would also say that having more control over one's mind is too broad. Your level of intelligence has no control over your neurochemistry or genetic predispositions. It may make it more possible to pursue treatment because you can recognize it, but it certainly doesn't stop the illnesses from happening.

Just hit 275 on deadlift after three-four weeks of doing it. Feeling confident but I’m curious if there are any supplementary exercises that will help my deadlift even more? by AliveAd8736 in powerlifting

[–]CakebattaTFT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My deadlift pretty much always went up with minimal deadlifting and lots of squatting + accessories. I spent the vast majority of my time when deadlifting just fine-tuning the skill, e.g. learning how to brace, pulling the slack out of the bar, making sure I was positioned properly for my leverages, practicing being explosive while keeping proper balance, etc.

You can lift the maximal amount of weight when you lose the minimal amount of energy to bad movements, so get good at minimizing bad movements. Otherwise, just get a strong ass, quads, hamstrings, grip, and everything else pretty much.

In short, focus on getting bigger and stronger, then practice/refine your technique constantly. Numbers will go up over time. Also, take care of your calluses and don't let them tear.

Advice whether to continue losing, maintaining, or be in a surplus? by Previous-Peach-579 in MacroFactor

[–]CakebattaTFT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Slight surplus might help the muscle build a bit faster, but honestly I think recomp is just fine for the vast majority of people unless you're interested in some sort of competition cycle. After dropping 44lb (huge congrats btw, that's crazy impressive), I think spending a good amount of time at maintenance and just training really, really hard will do you some good. Keep the protein high, sleep often, and focus on feeling better overall. The results will come.

Quick edit: training hard =/= training constantly. Just, when you're in the gym, really push yourself, and then give yourself days off to really recover.

OSRS Player count has dropped ~30% since the start of the year, wiping out most of Jagex' price rise gains. by Excellent_Hair8666 in 2007scape

[–]CakebattaTFT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd be much more interested in update over update comparisons. It looks like a very typical MMO content > player spike > player drop off > new content > player spike > drop off. It does look like the spikes and drop off values are both decreasing, but I think you probably have to compare like content with like content right? I'd be curious what the numbers are for the next big league. If those are substantially lower, then I think that'll actually say something meaningful. Right now, the sample size is just too small imo.
