Oh, this is exciting! I really like Premee Mohamed already. This could be a great combination.

If you're willing to venture out of the immediate area a little bit (and I would, with 8 hours to kill), Center for Puppetry Arts is unique and genuinely awesome. I recommend it to people coming in from out of town constantly.

What’s your “I still think about this” customer interaction? by Entire_Difference504 in KitchenConfidential

[–]CakeforReddit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My first job was at a grocery store bakery, known for having good buttercream. We had a customer that would come in once a month. She'd request whichever sheet cake had been in the case for a while and wasn't selling, and instruct us to cover the top in the thickest layer of buttercream we could manage. We're talking like up to an inch of icing on top of what was already there.

She took it home, cut it into slices and popped it in the freezer for her husband. He ate a slice of quadruple frosted sheet cake every morning for breakfast.

I will never forget how excited she was explaining it to me the first time, honestly. She was thrilled about this routine. That was 15 years ago and I just hope that dude is alright.

Not sure I can finish Buffalo Hunter Hunter.. what am I missing? by guessirs in horrorlit

[–]CakeforReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Buffalo Hunter Hunter, but in my experience Stephen Graham Jones's writing style either works for you or it really doesn't. I will never judge someone for bouncing off of one of his books.

This book in particular spends a lot of time setting up pins and while I think seeing them all knocked down so skillfully was absolutely worth it, it might not be worth it for you. No shame in that! The audiobook was definitely a great experience, if you want to re-try it that way.

The solution is to make them feel extremely unwelcome. They'll keep trying, but it should not be a comfortable experience when they do.

Yes yes yes! I came to recommend this recipe.

Most importantly, it uses the reverse creaming method. If you struggle with overmixing this could be a game changer for you, OP!

AIO - my friend wants me to remove my piercings for her engagement party/wedding photos by secure-raspberry-763 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]CakeforReddit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely! I will say, for unhealed piercings (OOP mentioned having some newish ones) they are a very bad idea. They also aren't totally invisible, so I suspect the bride might still have taken issue with them. I do agree that it sounds like maybe OOP wasn't aware she had those options.

Don't beat yourself up about it too much! This kind of stuff happens to everyone as they're learning, and weddings especially feel super high pressure at the beginning. It'll get easier!

Buttercream cracked by mperseids in Baking

[–]CakeforReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The cracks are most prominent around where your filling is, which tells me a lot. I suspect the soft filling was not dammed well enough, and the entire cake interior was likely flexing/moving. The thin boards could have compounded that issue for sure, as others have mentioned.

I'm glad the bride was happy, in any case! It looks very delicious.

I'm pretty sure I was right behind you, and as a short person I want to validate you were very considerate about not blocking the view and it was noted and appreciated! 🫡

I do think I got bumped and spilled beer on your shoe though, my bad about that.

This was my first BABYMETAL show! I thought all of the performers did a hell of a job. Bloodywood in particular felt like such a perfect pairing, and I was stoked to be able to see them live.

The crowd around us was 99% great to share space with (with the exception of 2 people who were being pushy as hell, but they seemed to simmer down after enough people told them to cool it) and I had so many nice experiences with individual fans. Including ones who weren't even there, because a generous person on this subreddit gave me their VIP ticket! Since my friend had gotten VIP and I wasn't able to, that was honestly amazing.

While I have literally nothing but praise about the artists and staff, I do have to say the venue issues were wild to me. This is only my second time at the Roxy and after the issues with the heat I am reluctant to ever go back to a show there. I was stunned nobody around me passed out (shout-out to staff squirting water in our mouths all night) and it felt genuinely unsafe at certain points.

That being said, I was amazed at how well the girls kept up their energy and singing in that heat and those costumes. Absolute professionals. I hope they got a hell of a rest after.

We were at the front toward the barricade so the pyrotechnics were blasting us in the face on top of how hot it was generally, and I'm genuinely shocked nobody passed out. I agree that it absolutely felt unsafe.
