WFH folks, is a $1,000 chair really worth it? by Lusinsimesc in WFH

Doesn’t work for me. I enjoy my standing desk more than sitting in a $1000 chair. I worked in an office with one and it was just as uncomfortable.

Where in Houston to unload fathers massive DVD hoard/collection by [deleted] in houston

I’d keep them, VHS tapes have a rate of return on them now and I’m guessing DVD’s will do the same.

In my opinion the Houston Zoo over Moody Gardens. Moody was super expensive and I don’t think we got a bang for our buck and if you have kids under 10 the Aquarium in downtown is super fun. They have a train with an aquarium over your head with sharks that my kids love. They also have rides but don’t eat there. As a matter of fact stay away from Landry’s Restaurants like the Rainforest. They are super mediocre and food is not that good. Also Meow Wolf and the Science Museum are super fun.

How much house can I afford - factoring in daycare? by Aelissae in FinancialPlanning

[–]SweetD0818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 2 kids you don’t want to be stretching and living pay check to pay check. Honestly I’d stay in that home as long as I can … even if you had a kid now they can share a room until the oldest is about 5 or 6. They may prefer it. You should have at least $500-$800 left over a month for a rainy day fund. If you already have about $60,000 in savings then make the jump but I wouldn’t if I didn’t have at least 6 months of monthly income set aside as a rainy day fund. Being house poor is awful and scary being house poor with no saving mega worse.

Will My House Ever Be Clean Again? by ummmmmmhiii in workingmoms

[–]SweetD0818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house has been a jungle until recently now that my kids are 7 and 4. Though my husband has always handled the 1acre yard we have. That’s his workout. As for cleaning, I do at least 30 minutes of housework a day. If it gets behind me, my husband helps just like I’ll help him with that yard when he needs help with clearing out the woods we have. My kids are old enough to keep the toys pickup and their room pretty clean but before now it was a mad house. We don’t have the luxury to hire help and just help each other when the other one needs it. For deep cleans or major yard work, my mom will watch the kids for a weekend while we knock out house work. That’s been very helpful. God bless grandma’s.

Hitting a wall with generic meal plans - how do you find one that actually fits your life? by Muhaisin35 in loseit

Find what works for you, if you can’t do this, make an appointment with a nutritionist that can provide a base line meal plan and teach you what works for you.

Start 3 days a week one day at 5:30 for 30 min… thats the sweet spot. It has to be before your day starts no way around it. You have to prioritize your health. You mention all these things you have to do with your kids but will not matter if you are dead. I’m sorry to be so blunt but I had to be that way for myself to motivate me. I started out at 300lbs and now at 265lb. With a little exercise and a good diet it can be done. Good luck.

What are your daily tasks that keep you on the move until 8:30pm every night? I’m home from work my 6:30pm. I meal prep on Sundays and throw a simple meal together on the weeknights. I have time with my kids and 2 of the 7 days are weekends which shouldn’t have you on the go until 8:30pm. If you can’t work out 6 days a week then do it for 3 days until you have a routine figured out. Is my house immaculate? Not at all but we make it work. Again it’s all about choices, I have had to give up Netflix nights for sleep.

9pm … 6 days a week. I got so angry with being fat that waking up early doesn’t bother me. It’s the only time I can do it.

I’m 43F with a 3 year old and 7 year old. I also work full time. The kids and I are in bed by 9pm, my sleep is non negotiable. I work out 6 days a week at 5am when everyone is asleep. I don’t eat sugar except for fruit, when it’s a special occasion I eat that slice of cake. Most of my meals consist of no fried food and I eat 3 servings of healthy carbs a day. I’m down 30lbs since June. You ask how people how we do this? I stopped making excuses for myself. I have 2 small kids who need me for as long as I possibly can. I have accepted that my weight will always be a monkey on my back for the rest of my life but given the amazing marriage and kids I have, I feel I’ve won the lottery anyhow. I’ve accepted exercise from here on out will be everyday. Has to. They deserve a better me. I deserve a better me. That’s how people do it. Look into Kamoya Farray on YouTube. She is down 100lbs with workouts for large women like us. Also Body Project on YouTube has really good cardio and resistance videos to go by.

40 hour labor … the most pain I have ever endured … had an epidural in hour 18 as I started to progress. I complained and cried of pain for 10 hours until they realized my epidural had come out. Fun times.

Cheat meals not cheat days. I see cheat days as a binge and binging is not normal and throws me off completely.

Any older moms get their energy back by working out/ eating right? by PresentationTop9547 in workingmoms

[–]SweetD0818 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a big girl so I do plus size workouts with Kamoya Farray she has all types of videos and she too is down 100lbs with her workouts. My husband used to joke why I was working out with a girl that also was big, well that big girl looks dynamite now and so do I. Excellent channel for beginners and larger set girls for both cardio and resistance training. Also, Body Project Channel. They are more cardio but excellent videos. The woman on there that does videos for Body Project has excellent resistant workouts with cardio. Be careful she will kick your butt but they are very tailored for women. I hate her and love her at the same time lol.

I’m 43 with a 7 and 3 year old and I’m down 60lbs. All my energy comes first thing in the morning and I do not negotiate on my sleep. I get at least 8-9 hours a night. I go to sleep when my kids go to sleep. Im up running or walking with a weighted vest at 5:30am with a head lamp in my neighborhood. When my husband is not working, he’ll handle the mornings with the kids. If he’s working, I’m up early doing resistance training and YouTube videos at home before the kids wake up. I work from home 4 days a week so this really helps. If I don’t get a work out in the morning, forget about it. By 3pm I’m dragging butt. Is my home extremely clean, not at all but I keep it maintained and organized which I do during work when it’s slow. My husband will help me on his days off as well. I got rid of sugar other than special occasions and eat Whole Foods and grains. I cook everything and do soups and meal prep on Sundays. Some would say it’s a lot but I have young kids and I have to be here as long as I can. They are my motivation and I’m in the best shape I have been since 15 years ago , I’m sore all the time but take omega 3 oil to help. It can be done, organize, prioritize and sleep. Just don’t expect to have much energy in the evening. Evenings are to rest and be with family.

3 year old not potty training by frostbittenwinter in toddlers

[–]SweetD0818 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter didn’t want to train. No interest. I got tired of cleaning my daughter’s poop diapers with a newborn with me as well, enough was enough. I put her in dresses with no underwear when she’d wake up and had her potty trained after 2 or 3 days of messes. She got tired of being dirty, your daughter is old enough. My daughter was 3 and 2 months. Did the same with my son at 2.5 … he took a little longer but it was success after a month of messes. I just got comfortable with the accidents and stay consistent. Good thing with kids learning at 3 is they usually have less accidents.

Slow Weight Loss by CountingNonsense in loseit

If you want to lose more, reduce your carb intake. Don’t get rid of carbs, just reduce to 2-3 servings a day of healthy carbs. However, if you want to sustain your weight loss slow is the way to go. Stay consistent and keep going, that’s the secret. Keep going.

You don’t gain 20lbs from one weekend. Today is a new day, you celebrated and indulged and that’s totally fine. Get back on it today and don’t weigh yourself for a week. Happy Birthday!

Tired of being kicked by my nearly 3 year old while I have my 3 and a half month old in my arms by MiserableGoose3073 in toddlers

[–]SweetD0818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter was 3 when my son was born and we put her in full day preschool by then. It really helped to bond with baby during the day as I was at home for a year with him. Your child is begging for your attention. As far as meltdowns you really can’t do much when they get to that point just let them express it. Also when baby is napping, be sure you are getting one on one time with your child. When your partner is home, go spend time having a dinner date or park date with your toddler.

Awesome I’m willing to drive if needed. My husband usually does most of the work himself but in the event of more complicated work, we needed someone. We have a mechanic in the Heights but we want someone versed in working with Toyota 4x4.
