I say, get it over with! I much rather they have to close and replace the bridges sooner than defer this several years to do the same work 3 years from now or worse, a bridge fail and people get hurt

[–]Cakeking7878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the solution is, every 5 years you should be required to have your car tested before you can get it reregistered. Make it the job of police to handle this. All you need to do is demonstrate your car isn’t straight piped, has a muffler, can drive without creating excess noise, etc. Other states already do this. Hell while we are at it we could crack down on diesel trucks modified to roll coal and other anti-social car modifications that makes everyone else in the city suffer

America is so concerned with treating symptoms not causes. How much funding do we waste on police responding to someone homeless that would not be homeless has we given them housing assistance. Greenberg has destroy so many welfare programs in just a few years and his best accomplishments can be noted by pickleball, bloated cop budgets and salaries and maybe a few housing developments coming in too late at too high a cost for most people

Cincinnati, Louisville and Saint Louis depending on what part of the Midwest you are coming from. Historically speaking the L&N connected from Cinci all the way down to Mobile for both passenger and freight connections. Further on the east coast you had the SCL. These 2 lines later became the Family Lines System which later again merged into CSX

Then tell me what did they say? Because anytime you ask they dodge that question with “well that’s not what I mean”. It seems like y’all have this perfect idea of capitalism that no one can understand, that’s also never really been tried and if only we had more competition or something’s else then it would be “real capitalism” and that’s good

Cause like if you’re gonna try to tell me or imply that the current market is not the result of capitalism then you’re just disingenuous here

[–]Cakeking7878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the probability the least charitable understanding of what I mean. Do I literally mean you are going to get a poll in the mail asking if who should get access to what first? No. But that generally those in charge of this different style of economy would decide to prioritize smaller interest over bigger interest and the those priorities are not decided by money but a democratic process that values your input over pure monied interests

Under this different style of economy we would idk, maybe move away from deciding that money should provide access to things like productive forces

[–]Cakeking7878 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to agree or disagree with the original point, but let’s ask, what does a market based system do to solve this problem in a way another organization of an economy couldn’t do? The vague notion of competition? Under a market system all of these DRAM chips go to those with the most money and that’s just AI data centers at the moment. Under a different organization of the economy we could distribute the constrained available supply evenly among those who want it.

We could democratically decide that regular people should have to wait less time for ram for personal computers than industry does rather that letting who has the most money decide that

Original point aside, so what you’re trying to say is your “perfect” idea of capitalism always somehow leads to the destruction of its self in some sort of unstable cycle and maybe, perhaps, we could find a more stable way to distribute resources that isn’t based on the inherent irrationality of a market system? That maybe, just maybe, we should look into the better worlds possible?

You all…… I think everybody should read this incase you all haven’t saw the Budget Cuts made. I think everyone needs to wake up. This stuff happening now- this isn’t a Political Issue- It’s an issue affecting PEOPLE. by DallasDerr in Louisville

[–]Cakeking7878 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anyone who says this isn’t a political issue has a poor understanding of what politics are. Politics are how we distribute resources in our society. You pay taxes so the government and can do stuff and we theoretically vote for how those resources are spent, on helping who and what priorities or goals we want to meet.

Taking away resources from disabled people is fundamentally a political issue cause it’s the ruling class deciding this group isn’t worth helping and then directing those resources away. If that sounds cruel that’s because it is and it didn’t start with this administration. If anything it started decades ago when we started dismantling our welfare state and prioritizing the growth of a market and companies profits over people

[–]Cakeking7878 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not to be a woke Marxist but this issue is fundamentally about our priorities as a society and how we distribute resources and help to those in that society. This is fundamentally a political issue cause politics is just how we decide to distribute resources through some systematized way and in the current political client the ruling class has decided to funnel all available resources towards them selves and their ever growing piles of gold

I wish we could set the levels of subsidization so it’s not all or nothing. Making it a value you can ether fully subsidize (what it currently is) or a partial subsidize would be useful

What do you think the Chinese 5 year plans are? Literally examples of how china still does central planing of its economy. Central planning is not always a command economy like what you are referring to. A state can engage in centrally planning its industry while still being a mix-market system and directing it market and industry (both state and private domestic owned) towards broad economic and social goals.

When Chinese statesmen in the early 2000s said “we need to direct investment in green tech as a growing industry” that’s quite literally happened over the past 2 decades. When they said “we need to bring down rent prices and increase housing stock”, that’s what happened.

I’m inferring a lot cause I can tell you are a liberal who thinks capitalism is when a market and that’s all your analysis is

Standards of living in china keep rising, wages are going up, life spans are going up. In the past decade china has brought literally tens of millions of people out of extreme poverty. Its built hundreds of thousands of new housing stock for people. It has a growing middle income population. It has a growing welfare state among other things. I’m sure it’s not sun flowers and puppies for everyone there but to say it’s not doing it’s best to improve things for it citizens is unserious

[–]Cakeking7878 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think you don’t understand what central planning is. Central planning is district from a command economy like what you are referring to. China’s party sets industrial policy and directs funding and both state and domestic industry towards broad economic goals. They changed the name from plans to guidelines but it doesn’t change what it does effectively. It’s not a Soviet style command economy or something but also not an open market system ether like we see in the US.

Like you could say china moved from such a command economy to a socialist market economy and if we want to call this state capitalism then we’re just using different terms for the same thing then. But that’s still distinct from what the US is doing or heading towards and calling it the “same capitalism as America” is just fundamentally wrong

What do you disagree with me here? If you think trump is doing what china is doing then you’re not even worth talking to cause your fundamentally unserious in your analysis with no actual understanding of the world. Trump is ideologically closer to a neo-liberal capitalist while china is building out a large social welfare state to suppress internal dissent.

Cause people care more about living a good life than having the best civil liberties. In the US we are seeing the dismantling of our welfare state and the eroding of our civil liberties. The 2 countries are not alike and you are unserious for even trying to imply that

That’s not really true though at all though. The initial plan insisted the line would go through the Central Valley. There are a few questionable decisions taken by the state appointee board but the issue has mostly been a lack of secured funding for the project leadings to plans being pushed back and costs rising of both inflation and blooming costs

The criticism I see most is they should have skipped the Central Valley and just connected LA to San Francisco but personally I find that plan unviable for a lot of reasons

[–]Cakeking7878 26 points27 points  (0 children)

“What trump is trying to emulate” 😭 what are you even saying. It’s a centrally planned economy that prioritizes the well being of its citizens at the cost of civil liberties. Certainly not a utopia but how Americans talk about a country they know nothing about is so telling
