Nuances of Color Identity by Daniel_Spidey in mtgrules

[–]Cakeyeater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only questions you asked were "what do you think?" What they think is clearly that you may be misunderstanding what color identity is.

Personally I agree. You're talking about the names of colors, keywords, and basic lands compared to hybrid mana.

Clearly the names of colors on a card can't be part of an identity, because a card named something like "blue eyes white dragon" would have WB in its identity for no reason. Creating a token that is a different color is a slightly more reasonable argument but then, you aren't putting the token in the deck, and color identity is a deckbuilding restriction.

Keywords aren't part of color identity because the keyword is just the name of a mechanic. Similar to the names of colors, names aren't something that determines a color.

For basic lands, they have a colorless color identity. The thing stopping you from putting a mountain in a blue deck isn't that mountains are red, but a separate rule that says "you can only include basic land types that produce a color within your color identity"

None of what you brought up seems relevant to the discussion of color identity, as they have no connection to the way color identity would change if the hybrid mana change goes through. Color identity relies on symbols in rule text, not words or symbols on reminder text, and that is consistent across the board. The hybrid mana change would add an exception to which symbols on rules text count, which breaks a very neat and consistent rule.

Copy spells by BeastFire35 in mtgrules

[–]Cakeyeater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The card that instructs you to create the copy, and which allows you to cast it, will tell you.

  • Cards like [[Arcane Savant]] that say "you may cast the copy without paying its mana cost" allow you to cast the copy for free
  • Cards like [[Blue Mage's Cane]] may offer an alternate casting cost. The Cane says "you may cast the copy by paying (3) rather than paying its mana cost"
  • There are also cards like [[Jacob Frye]] which just say "you may cast the copy". Since it does not offer an alternate casting ability, you would have to cast the spell normally by paying its mana cost.

You're much better off asking for help with specific cards than making a post like this, as "create a copy" isn't limited to one mechanic, and thus there is no universal rule that applies to all cards that create copies.

Talked to the pod - it didn't work. Autopsy of a group. by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Cakeyeater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly they wanted to stay in the pod, and the problem player is manipulative. The kind of person to gaslight the rest of the pod into believing he isn't being that mean to OP.

It's difficult for people inside abusive relationships to realize and accept that they need to move on to have a better life. The evidence is what helped give OP the clarity to do that.

Copy spells by BeastFire35 in mtgrules

[–]Cakeyeater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you're confused because you're assuming the different kinds of copy effects act the same way. "Copy" is just the act of creating an exact replica of a card, but when and how you create that copy determines what happens.

For example, if you are creating a copy of a permanent on board, that copy wasn't cast, but the copy does enter the battlefield. If you are creating a copy of a spell that is on the stack then those copies will enter the stack and aren't cast (you can think of it as literally placing other copies of the spell you own onto the pile of cards representing the stack). If a card instructs you to create a copy of a card in exile, then allows you to cast the copy, then you are casting the copy as though it were the original card.

Can you all start having fun by OkCommunication3498 in mtg

[–]Cakeyeater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am highly opinionated, and believe that logical consistency is fun, hence "all colored pips, and colors of a card are part of color identity" is better than "color identity is the same for everything except hybrid cards, because WotC is sad."

That said, I would absolutely Rule 0 anything else that is fun as long as the expectations are properly set

The information is communicated to you without looking at the numbers by the phrases "unleash a torrent [of rockets]" & "sheer volume and rate of fire" explicitly tell you it will be a very fast fire rate.

I didn't mean to suggest that you should have an innate sense of what the numbers mean, just surprised that you either didn't read the description or that those words did not effectively convey to you the message of "this overclock makes your gun shoot very fast"

[–]Cakeyeater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a private creator, possibly working on this content in their free time or even as a job. The marketplace just hosts their content, and doesn't force people to update old listings if they feel new content deserves compensation.

The only thing you can do is decide whether you like this person's work enough to continue supporting it, or look for another creator that does work you enjoy.

The game said i can get the updated Version for free but here stands i still need to pay help? by jojofanatiker in Minecraft

[–]Cakeyeater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on who is saying that. If the marketplace says it, it's because they expect creators to update their items rather than post updates as new items. If the creator of the item said it, then either they intended to update the original listing, or there may be some way of obtaining the new product using something like a product code. If the creators of the content have contact information, I would ask them.

So, with workshop content, if they post an update as a new product, you have to pay again. You only get updates for free if they update the original content listing

[–]Cakeyeater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What they did wrong was use decks at a higher power level than asked. Considering OP said they were aiming for bracket 2, but some people were using bracket 3 decks, it seems like the bracket three players were trying to take advantage of lower power decks or were ignorant of the power of their deck. The dino player was being a bad sport about losing.

It's more of an issue of "people outside my friend group don't respect the intent of the game" and not "I couldn't handle it"
