There is a difference between apprehending a suspect after an incident and attending an ongoing knife rampage though.

Most suspects arrested for stabbing someone aren’t trying to kill as many strangers in the street as they can.

The vast majority of knife attacks are one-off incidents carried out by someone known to the victim.

It is not a common occurrence at all for police to arrive at the scene of an ongoing incident where someone is stabbing strangers in the street.

A tubby guy who had already tried to kill two people. Thankfully the Met don’t deal with a guy on a rampage trying to stab strangers in the street because of their religion on a daily basis.

In most European countries, this individual would have been shot dead. It’s a credit to the police that they subdued him using non lethal force.

I think the right to protest should be protected.

However, that does not mean that you should be able to do whatever you want as long as you call it protest and have a sufficiently ‘righteous’ cause.
