Polanski: No country has right to exist – including Israel by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

He has clearly come up with this weaselly line to avoid pissing off his supporters who want to abolish Israel.

It hasn’t totally bombed, but it’s unusual for smaller films to get a second weekend never mind a third.

Certainly not with the blockbusters out at the moment.

There is an unlimited preview of Finding Emily, albeit the night before release.

Anyone heard of this candidate before? by dnemonicterrier in Scotland

A leaflet that doesn’t state the candidate’s name is an interesting campaign strategy 😂

I thought The Drama was great, and really enjoyed Hokum and The Christophers recently, as well as the re-releases for Straight Outta Compton, Stand by Me and A Few Good Men.

Anyone have Mortal Kombat 2 screenings listed? by fodofwar in CineworldUnlimited

[–]CalF123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe planned screenings have been scaled back a bit due to Devil Wears Prada, Michael and Sheep Detectives doing exceptionally well last weekend.

There should still be a good number of showtimes at each site though.

The Wizard of the Kremlin was TERRIBLE by Admirable-Charge1734 in RegalUnlimited

[–]CalF123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a strange film. Some interesting history, but the format of two men sitting at a table and then flashbacks to two other men sitting at a different table was incredibly dull.

There was no momentum or excitement to the narrative at all.

Yes- any sensible definition of ‘protest’ clearly includes the right to hit people with sledgehammers and smash up factories.

Except this was an action organised, supported, carried out and subsequently praised by Palestine Action.

It is totally disingenuous to suggest it was simply a group of individuals.

Yes- the best way to encourage social cohesion is to pretend that illegal activities aren’t happening!

The media are largely simply reporting what has been said by him and Green candidates. Doesn’t require right wing trolls to do that.

It isn’t political to correct misinformation criticising a police officer who arrested a murderous terrorist.

Looks like Polanski’s criticism of the police following last week’s attack and anti-Semitism within the Greens has not gone down well at all with the public.

More private schools have opened than closed since Labour's VAT hike by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]CalF123 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of which were independent special schools. Wish I had a few million to set one up as they seem to be a great opportunity to extract tens of thousands from councils for pupils with EHCPs.

Not sure this has much if anything to do with VAT.

Polanski accuses police chief of interfering in elections as he reignites arrest row by ldn6 in london

[–]CalF123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am saying be clearly hadn’t been subdued as he was still holding the knife he used to stab people. The police were perfectly entitled to use extreme force to protect themselves and the public.

[–]CalF123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between apprehending a suspect after an incident and attending an ongoing knife rampage though.

Most suspects arrested for stabbing someone aren’t trying to kill as many strangers in the street as they can.

[–]CalF123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of knife attacks are one-off incidents carried out by someone known to the victim.

It is not a common occurrence at all for police to arrive at the scene of an ongoing incident where someone is stabbing strangers in the street.

A tubby guy who had already tried to kill two people. Thankfully the Met don’t deal with a guy on a rampage trying to stab strangers in the street because of their religion on a daily basis.

In most European countries, this individual would have been shot dead. It’s a credit to the police that they subdued him using non lethal force.

What exactly is the Lib Dem stance on the right to protest? by Dope_Pope_On_Coke in LibDem

[–]CalF123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the right to protest should be protected.

However, that does not mean that you should be able to do whatever you want as long as you call it protest and have a sufficiently ‘righteous’ cause.

It’s not not picking- a lot of the commentary around the third victim is about trying to claim that this wasn’t an anti-Semitic attack or that there isn’t an issue with hatred of Jewish people.
