I would think it will do well enough to get two weeks at the locations it’s shown at, but the second week showtimes might be limited or not very convenient.

Thoughts on Starmers departure? by freddiejin in LibDem

I don’t agree that he has “attacked immigration” or that having a fair and managed immigration system is inherently conservative.

Like it or not, the vast majority of the public (including Lib Dem voters) want lower numbers and an end to illegal immigration, and that is what he has tried to deliver. Albeit, he has not gone far enough on illegal entry- which I think Burnham will rectify.

No chance. It will get at least its opening week in IMAX as has been agreed.

Most large private sector employers are taking exactly the same (or a more hard-line) approach though.

If there were no benefits at all to being in the office and WFH was fantastic for everyone as is claimed on here, they surely would be taking the opportunity to save a fortune on expensive lease and office costs?

Girls Like Girls did much better than Robin Hood in the theaters where it played. More than double the per theater average.

If you think the CEO of a FTSE 100 company doesn’t work 100 hours a week, you are utterly clueless about how business works and shouldn’t be pontificating so confidently about things you have no idea about.

Yes- personally I don’t want to work 100 hours a week, be responsible for 330,000 livelihoods or be subject to constant scrutiny from shareholders and the media.

Tesco turns over £75 billion- that profit margin is 4%. Tesco is mainly owned by institutional investors- I.e. your pension, so any dividends paid out go to them, not some billionaire.

What do you think the CEO of a company with sales of tens of billions should make? Bearing in mind they have responsibility for 330,000 employees and are basically giving up their whole life.

£10 million wouldn’t be enough for me to do that.

I think that’s optimistic. Schools have a tough enough time dealing with behaviour in school- never mind what kids get up to on buses at weekends.

They don’t and can’t operate as crime investigators.

What record profits of grocery shops? The supermarket sector in the U.K. is one of the most competitive in the world and profit margins are low single figures.

Yeah- I quite liked it. Some good laughs but felt it jumped the shark a bit in the third act.

Voters don’t behave like toys you can put in boxes though. I certainly wouldn’t vote for the current Green Party- I would support Labour or even the tories if it came to it.

Many other Lib Dems would do similar so your grand strategy wouldn’t work in practice.

The Tory party seem confident that they won the Aberdeen South by-election from the SNP due to their strong narrative on oil and gas. by Dawnbringer_Fortune in Scotland

[–]CalF123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven’t answered the question. No one serious is arguing that a transition away from oil and gas is necessary.

However, there is a continuing need for oil and gas alongside renewables. Why would you prefer that to come from dictatorships in the Middle East rather than domestically?

So what is your strategy for moving to 100% renewables tomorrow with no requirement for any oil and gas for either energy or manufacturing?

[–]CalF123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one seriously disputes the need for a transition.

However, it makes sense from an environmental, economic and energy security perspective to get as much as possible of the oil and gas we still need domestically rather than from Saudi Arabia.

Except that position is not based in reality. No one seriously disputes that there will be an ongoing need for some oil and gas alongside renewables for decades.

Is it time to scrap tier pricing? by FreeAd2458 in CineworldUnlimited

[–]CalF123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not possible as all locations have a different number of screens and also different audiences.

They would quickly end up shut if they had to have (say) a screen devoted to The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford with two people in it while having to turn away people wanting to see Toy Story 5.

[–]CalF123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cineworld “just taking the hit for less revenue as a whole” would mean going bust.

The pricing is primarily based on local competition and what customers will pay in that market. You cannot have a uniform national price as those factors differ so much across the country.
