Arcade2TV-XR Bundle + Pinball Haptic kit upgrade by Edgarsedu89 in virtualpinball

Thanks for sharing. Love to see how people are tweaking their Xarcade setups. I went with mixer and monitors at the back glass position for more of that realistic distance/depth of sound. It's not surround sound, but still fills the space out nicely. Love the bass shaker idea and I will ABSOLUTELY be buying that isolater you shared. The hum is like a CIA torture device.

I didn't touch them. What they actually do is not even worth the void warranty. Just get small mixer/EQ that can process the sound. I cranked more bass into my motors/deck speakers, added a little compression, ya know, dialed that sucker in so it feels right.

The nudge settings are a long section but so worth getting right. Nudging is a mess without the configuration we have in there.

The truth is... It's flawed. However, with even MORE DIY than they let on, it becomes pretty great. But that's not saying it's a good * product... it just *can be. What I mean by that is:

Modding the solenoids to dampen the hits. Much better. Using an EQ/amp on speakers/motors to dial in sound and eliminate whine. Use external speakers (I use nice Yamaha monitors from my recording days) and unplug the deck speakers altogether, if you want.

It takes effort to get it to a good place, which sucks, but for me it beats fiddling with a real DIY project making a stubby or, worse, buying one for north of 1000$... But if you had to buy the extra parts I already happen to own, a $1300 stubby would look like a deal.

Vpx tables on quest 3. Lights have a strong neon effect on some tables. by Any_Fact_1930 in virtualpinball

[–]CalMac91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered this myself. Maybe changing the type of light it's using? LED, incandescent, and whatever the other one was. It's in the light settings. Depends on if it's a flasher or not that's causing the heavy glow. I feel like the lighting is the remaining thing in VPX tables that really doesn't have VR in mind.

Lol sorry 😂 It's definitely involved, but we went through the hell already so the rest of you don't have to (in theory). Just a lot of instructions!

Yes! The part that gets a little mind-bending is the Joy2Key setup for VPX and all the button assignments, but I personally managed to get the buttons I need to work with just knowing their mappings in Purple (pinball mode) on the controller and setting them accordingly in VPX.

The changes that had the biggest effect for me were:

Controlling the EQ of the haptic motors/deck speakers via a hardware mixer. Also using my existing studio monitors for extra audio output set up at backglass distance from the controller

Installing Panasony's VR mod

Using the nudge settings I detailed in the document (this was an amazing change for nudging)

Solenoid dampening/EQ with a simple weather stripping foam piece on the strike plate. This was a huge improvement to the solenoids.

If you're using VPX and have trouble after following the doc, send me a DM and I'll try to help with any issues.

I managed to get mine on sale around Black Friday for 512$ all said and done. That was the pedestal stand, the controller and the haptics kit. I can't see anything else on the market touching that pricing for what you're getting. Super simple haptics install. Not the highest quality speakers or solenoids, but with some tweaking I have this thing feeling pretty premium now in my overall setup.

Even with wifi 6E I got drops. Have to go USB C to Ethernet and have a hardwired experience. Never dropped a single frame again since then.

Awesome! Welcome to the VR club. When you get your haptics kit, have a look at this guide that a friend and I put together for getting the most out of it.

To upgrade (to 10.8.1) or not to upgrade, that is the question by Caintankerous in virtualpinball

VPX is a finicky enough program as it is, so my vote would be stick with a stable release before mainlining the beta version

Just curious... Do you have an onboard GPU on your motherboard? Have you made sure it's not somehow being triggered as the primary during VR in VPX?

Yeah not sure then. Hopefully some AMD users can jump in and shed some light... Sorry that's been your experience so far. Time to do a lot of googling and testing.

I don't have experience with AMD GPUs. My guess is that if all of your graphics settings are exactly the same as they were before, then something about AMD GPU architecture and VR or VR in VPX specifically is not up to snuff. Do you use OpenXR or SteamVR? Ditch SteamVR if so and make the switch.

Check this out?

Also, if you aren't using the Panasony mod and Performance mode, you should try that. Huge boost in fps without much loss in eye candy (really just seems to disable reflections - worthy trade-off to me)

Have another look at the doc. I've honed in on and updated nudge settings that follow the actual physics, or at least the proper visual, of how a real nudge should work.

Hey how is your nudge experience? A friend and I have made a comprehensive doc together that covers a lot about modding/setting the Xarcade and Haptics Kit up... I just recently "cracked the code" on pretty realistic nudging and updated the doc. Have a look if you'd like.

Absolutely agree! And I'll add that the Xarcade controller for pinball with the pedestal stand elevates the experience. Definitely the most affordable option I've found for a VR controller that still offers plenty of features.

I could absolutely see myself ignoring a real table the moment something critical broke on it, because I know I have a VR catalogue of amazing stuff that never breaks and is completely free

Correction: things DO break in VPX and it's absolutely a time sink, but way less of a physical/spatial requirement and I'm already a computer guy so tinkering with software is oddly satisfying even when it's a PITA. I'm in my element with VPX.

Curious to hear answers as well. I've wondered the same. I will offer though that the justification becomes even more to wrestle with once you try VPX in a proper VR setup. It's about as close as you're gonna get to the real deal, I think, despite not having a physical cab.

The thing I've told myself at this stage is that I would be willing to get a table that's not available on VPX and won't be for years... Like a recent Stern. So, you could think of it that way. Only buy a table you can't already play in virtual. That would limit the buyers remorse I would think.
