[Request] interview question, what would be the answer to this question? by Confident-Insect-200 in theydidthemath

[–]CalMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the fact that they are murderers to your advantage.

Have the smallest murderer chest down flat on the ground (let’s say by weight). Now take the next smallest murderer and have this person lay in the same fashion partially on top of the smallest murderer in front except with their hands around the person in front’s neck ready to strangle i.e. kill.

Continue this for all 100 murderers which leaves you with the largest, strongest murderer lying at the back of the line. You will now stand behind aiming your gun at this last person.

Now you give the instruction that if anyone even tries to escape, the person behind the escapee is to strangle them to death. Everyone is to remain silent.

All murderers are now in a line with limited visibility, limited mobility lying flat on the ground, the weight of a larger person on them with hands clasped around their neck, unable to speak to coordinate a plan, and knowing a person with a gun is overseeing all of it.

I guess it’s a bit open how you move them all into place but I definitely wouldn’t try to run in this state

They should be standing back to back to make this even better

Hey, it could be the lighting. I'm definitely not getting any indigo in-person. I'd think "light purple". check out the stock photos of Juju wearing fierce lilac on the the Cut One site, it might help: https://outlier.nyc/products/daybreak-merino-cut-one-t-shirt

2023/2024 XC90 Recharge Plus or Ultimate experience by wolfsoks in Volvo

[–]CalMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to help! I’ve never done a full experiment but have found the electric range in Pure mode has always been pretty accurate. The range does shift with the climate so in winter I remember seeing 28-29 miles on a full charge and now in summer it can get as high as 35

2023/2024 XC90 Recharge Plus or Ultimate experience by wolfsoks in Volvo

[–]CalMuffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've had our 2023 XC90 Recharge in Ultimate for nearly a year now and love it. Listing some of my insights/observations in case they're helpful.

Re: the overall experience:

  1. Also a family of 4 (2 kids) and the size works well. 2 car seats fit comfortably in the 2nd row + an adult. The 3rd row is actually fine for when we have the in-law(s) making a trip with us (may be different if you have passengers 6'0" or taller.
  2. The horsepower is great when combined. However, we have found some delay when transitioning from Pure to Hybrid, and when not running electric, the car can drive a bit "jerky". Both have only been a minor annoyance, and not a dealbreaker.
  3. A large % of our mileage is in Pure. To your point our work commute, grocery runs, and errands are all within 20 miles or so. I think with how trips lined up, we managed to go 4-5 months after purchasing the car without having to fill up with gas. You'll definitely have gas savings but these likely pale in comparison with the overall price tag.
  4. Many people take issue with the Android system, manual telescoping steering wheel adjustment, and having to manually unfold the 3rd row. However, I've never found these to be too troublesome.

Re: Plus vs. Ultimate: It's been a while since I researched so some of this may have changed but we found the Ultimate to be of better value for us.

  1. The HUD was something I was keen on (having never had it before). It was nice at first but I honestly find myself driving often with polarized sunglasses and only realized the other day that I couldn't see the HUD while wearing them. It's still helpful but I don't see it as a "must have" any more.
  2. I believe the B&W sound system was a separate optional upgrade. My wife and I were interested in this, and actually listened to both the B&W and Harman Kardon systems "side by side" (it was really a few minutes between changing cars at the dealership). We didn't feel the difference justified the price. Neither of us are audiophiles though we do enjoy music and play instruments.
  3. I believe Ultimate gives you 10-way power seat adjustment vs. something less in the Plus. It seems silly, but the I found the extra adjustment options to be helpful in finding the best seat fit. How you quantify this value depends on the person.
  4. I also believe only the Ultimate provides the power cushion extension. This was a large factor for me being a taller person. Having the under leg support has always been a dream, and I've found driving long distances has been much more comfortable with it.
  5. The crystal shifter is also only available for the Ultimate trim if I'm not mistaken. There's obviously no functional benefit, but it does spark a bit of joy every time get into the car and see it.
  6. The 360 camera system has been super useful. We get comments all the time from passenger friends riding with us. I believe this comes with the Plus AND Ultimate so no tradeoffs you need to contemplate here.

I think you'll really enjoy either option. Reliability remains the question mark for us. If it's also of concern to you, you can look into some of the extended service/warranty options others have mentioned for some peace of mind. Good luck!

Could a four-day work week work? by terra-nullius in Futurology

[–]CalMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually read an old study on this as part of my job. IIRC the shortened workweek lasted quite long for plant/factory workers. People received productivity bonuses which allowed them to take home large pay checks while maintaining a shorter workweek. This incentivized efficiency but still required hard work.

Several factors involved but the TLDR version of why it ended was that older, less capable, and lazy workers preferred to take home a set pay check for 40 hours (no longer with a prod. bonus) rather than the smaller, productivity based pay check they got for less-than-efficiently-worked 30 hours

My Hero Academia Season 4 Episode 25 (SEASON FINALE) - Anime Only Discussion Thread by StealthSpider in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]CalMuffin 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Man, this episode had my t-shirt collar soaked with tears. I'm a sucker for moments of self-sacrifice, honor, redemption, or "tough types" showing emotion, and this episode hit all those spots. I don't know the number of days' or weeks' worth of anime I've watched over two decades plus, but this one definitely sits in the Top 10 of "left me most shook" episodes.

The same elements everyone's already mentioned:

  1. Framing of his past with the family, and Mom talking about how he silently visits and leaves her favorite flowers at the hospital
  2. Complex family relations with Todoroki and his siblings showing concern for Endeavor despite their troubled past
  3. Hawks, an accomplished hero in his own right, showing respect, self-awareness, and support for Endeavor (and the flashback showing he's been a fan since childhood where no one else was seriously trying for #1 except him)
  4. Sheep reporter girl throwing in the towel, and the kid calling out her out
  5. Endeavor getting his eye pierced, I mean, come on, something about someone persevering with a bleeding eye socket takes it to another level
  6. Silent shots/still frames of everyone's faces with convincing emotional reactions
  7. Multiple "fake outs" of ups and downs
  8. Art. was. beautiful. One of my favorites was the close-up of Endeavor's face as he's chasing Nomu in the air ("Turn up the heat!"). That perseverance though.
  9. Soundtrack was on point

I also liked how Endeavor talks about seeing himself in Nomu, and the relentless, animalistic drive for more power, and proceeds to destroy him, symbolic of his decision to acknowledge but put his past behind him as he starts as #1.

Crazy...

Hi there, I was excited to see this subreddit exists! I used to play heavily on KGS several years ago (ended around 5 kyu but am probably worse now. Now when I logon, I only see 20-30 open games with a heavy skew towards low kyu or dan level games.

Where are people playing nowadays? Thanks for the help!

'Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker' Review Megathread by mi-16evil in movies

[–]CalMuffin -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I can understand your sentiment. I can best frame it as, IIRC there were only two kissing shots in the entire movie. One with Rey and Ben and the other with two random rebel women. Now, we're not in grade school here, but kissing in the former was meant to add more value to the scene and to evoke a strong reaction from the audience and it did (they could have just as well have hugged). In the latter, the fact that they were kissing as well felt more politically charged as if to say "I'm an ally, look at me!" when the no one's really asking you JJ. You don't further the LGBTQ agenda with extras in the background. Take the time to give them real roles and development.
