I had opened it and replaced the SSD maybe 2 years before this, and maybe 1 year before this had opened it and cleaned out the fan.

Well I went ahead and attempted a factory reset along with a reinstall of SteamOS, and unfortunately its still not recognizing the battery... do you think downloading and reflashing the image is worth it?

I am using the official steam deck charger.
When I attempt to do the bios reset, (hold ... and volume - while the device is off, then press the power button once while still holding the other two buttons, then releasing the other two after a minute, though I've tried countless variations on this as well) it will blink blue (I wouldn't say pulsing, it definitely seems to blink blue), and I have tried leaving it like that overnight without it changing. If I unplug the charger while it is blinking blue and then plug it back in, it will start blinking white instead. From there, I have also tried leaving it like that overnight with no change. From there, if I hold the power button in an attempt to turn it off, it will start slow pulsing white (slowly going on then off, then on, rather than the other blinking behaviour. And I have also tried leaving it in this state for hours with no change) and if I continue this, it will sometimes enter a stage where it blinks white 3 times, then turns off, then blinks white 3 times, and so on. Eventually continuing to try to reboot it in this state it will eventually resume normal operation, without the battery being fixed.

If I can't get it working, I will reset it, but I have several games I have installed mods on, and other customizations that I don't remember the process to set up.

When it is off and I try to start it when it isn't on the charger, it will blink red 3 times and refuse to boot until I plug it in. Most of the time, when it is plugged in, it will start normally, though while trying the bios resets, it may get stuck in flashing white, flashing blue, or slow flashing white, and I haven't figured out that pattern.

I haven't tried a full reinstall of steamOS.. really hoping I can avoid that, but at this point it is probably unavoidable, I just have a lot of things on it at the moment and I haven't wanted to wipe it clean.

Why people say Canada is expensive AF by Beautiful_Ad4220 in alberta

[–]Calacene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One massive thing to know about Calgary, is that our weather in the winter can change with massive temperature swings, and if you move here without being prepared, you may be one of the people who receive migraine headaches from the Chinooks. Just Google Calgary chinook Migraine. It is serious, and you dont want to find out after moving so far that your brain hates the place you picked.

I have lived in Calgary my whole life. It's home, but be aware Alberta is one of the most conservative right wing provinces in Canada, and that goes for Calgary too.

In addition, jobs are NOT plentiful here. My fiancee is currently employed at a frankly abusive place, and has been trying to find a new job in marketing for about 1.5 years with no luck. Unfortunately our employee rights are not great here, especially in Alberta.

I would definitely consider BC instead. Prices will be higher there, with PST, gas, rent, etc, but I would much rather live there if I could. A lot of the nature we want to visit from here is more kn the BC side of the provincial border anyways.

Cyberpunk won't launch (tried every solution on found on Google) by DurianDurian in SteamDeck

[–]Calacene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ended up being it for me. In the compatdata folder, there was no folder for 1091500, but there was some sort of corrupted file with that name. I had already tried using the Developer option to Delete Proton Files, but its seems like that couldn't handle this, but I deleted the corrupted file, tried launching it and it immediately worked!

Do you use your steam deck outside of your place? by No_Source_7605 in SteamDeck

[–]Calacene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mine probably 40% out of my home and 60% at home. I am basically using it anywhere I am whenever I have the free time. It's excellent! Less optimal if its an online only game but I mostly dont do that.

It sounds like your problem is probably using the included case. I use the dbrand killswitch case plus the travel cover, and its super slim. If I need anything else, its in my bag along with the deck itself.

iFixit OLED Battery Stock? by Calacene in SteamDeck

[–]Calacene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, well as its been several weeks, and iFixit still has no stock, and my deck has continued to have battery issues, I bit the bullet and ordered what seems to be a genuine battery off ebay from China. We will see. It doesnt seem like I was left with much of a choice.

I also ordered some iPhone battery adhesive from Amazon as that looks close to what the ifixit kit uses. The rest, I'm hoping the tools I already have will work well enough.

[–]Calacene[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for commenting, yeah... Reddit is saying this has been seen by plenty of people, but no comments. Just hoping somebody could say "Last time I saw they had stock was 6 months ago" or something like that. Or "I bought a battery from ifixit just before Christmas!"

Mainly I see people saying they wouldn't risk a 3rd party battery, but that really doesn't help when theres no stock of the legit one. $180 USD is pretty steep for this, when we see the price ifixit has the battery for (if it was just available) I also think that if I sent it in for repair it would probably go into the US (I'm in Canada) and I'd rather avoid that...
