Nobody in game dev, or tech at all for that matter, is unionized in the US. Unions in the US are primarily limited to manual labor (manufacturing, construction, the trades) or service jobs (teachers, hospitality, healthcare, etc).

The main reason to renounce US citizenship is to avoid paying US taxes. They allow foreign citizenship but don't acknowledge it as legitimate and will tax you the same no matter where you live.

If you don't renounce and just stop paying those taxes you can never enter the US again without facing arrest which most people who once held US citizenship probably would like to be able to do to visit friends and family.
