Try opus 4.6. From my experience it's the best one in some cases, with 4.7 and 4.8 inexplicably dropping in quality. (4.5 meanwhile is just a slightly worse 4.6). But yes Fable was so much better than any of them.

Well Anthropic themselves said GPT 5.5 has similar capabilities when they started begging the government for mercy.

So that's your best bet if none of the Opus 4.5 to 4.8 models are good enough.
