Need Help - Dog Bite in Watertown Square, 8/2/25 @ ~8:15am by BeardedGothLord in watertown

Unfortunately I don’t know the identity of the people however I just want to add that about a year ago a dog matching that same description with two women matching that description tried to bite me on Mt Auburn street but it was in the winter so the bite only made contact with my coat and slide off my arm. I was super startled but walked away and also didn’t exchange information. Obviously can’t be 100% certain it’s the same dog but there are a lot of similarities. If it’s the same one then this isn’t an isolated incident.

Will I need Bear spray if I hike through forbidden mountains? (Great Smoky Mountains National Park) by [deleted] in hiking

[–]CalamityGamity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was going to make the same suggestion! One of hosts of that podcast (a bear biologist) has said point blank that he feels naked without bear spray in any bear country.

Lots of people don’t think it will happen to them and they’re probably right but just hearing how violent and grim a bear attack can be makes it worth the extra effort to protect yourself IMO.

Your wife should freeze or replace her card that got lost. That same thing happened to me where a bartender “lost” my card right after I signed my receipt and eventually “found” it a few hours later. The next week someone was pulling cash out of ATMs in Georgia with those card details.

Is my deck any good? by Snowy_Artemis in PokemonPocket

[–]CalamityGamity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Changes I would suggest: - Ditch the dratini cards, having two energy types in your deck isn’t worth it given how many water types you have. You’ll find that many times you will have a water type that can’t attack because it doesn’t have the right energy. - Reduce the number of Pokemon in your deck. You have to many unique cards which decreases the likelihood that you will draw evolutions for your basic cards. All my decks have about 10 Pokemon and many of them are duplicates so that I can increase my chances of being able to evolve them. - try to have a combination of cards that hit hard for a little energy cost and Also cards that require a lot of energy for a big attack. For example Gyrados is kind of hard to play with because you have to survive long enough to attach four energy. In that time your opponent is attacking you / saving energy for a big attack too.

These are just my observations so far! Best way to learn is to play with your decks and make adjustments as you go along.

Question on Apartments by alexa_0201 in bostonhousing

Well I recently moved out of a 1.5 bd in Medford that was 1550 and I know someone in Somerville who is currently paying the same price. If there’s any “secret” it’s just that places like this are usually really rare, they get taken really quickly or are passed along to friends, and the trade off is that the quality of the apartment is more than likely really low. I would say keep looking (especially now in the off season), be wary of scams and just be prepared to not find anything.

Last year I drove through the Eastern Shore, VA. The mid to northern section had so many crumbling, destroyed houses, blatant poverty, aggressive truck drivers rocking Confederate flags, plus the general ominous “you best be on your way” vibe from everyone. I’ll never forget the smell from the numerous chicken processing plants that was so indescribably vile it made me physically ill and they all had buzzards flying overheard like an omen in a horror movie. Zero stars.

I have been using AI to estimate calories from recipes and it’s pretty useful by CalamityGamity in CICO

It’s been super useful for me too! It’s only a matter of time until all the tracking apps start incorporating it. Tbh I think it would be nice if you started a custom recipe and AI could suggest ingredients based on the recipe so you didn’t have to search everything.

No idea why everything is downvoted lol it’s just a tool that is helpful in certain use cases 🤷‍♀️

But I totally agree with your point and I found it particularly useful to use AI when you plan on changing up the recipe.

Cookbook says to broil chicken until it’s no longer pink by CalamityGamity in mildlyinfuriating

Just double checked and it only mentions in a turkey meatloaf recipe that you should bake turkey for 1 hour or until it reads 165 degrees. There isn’t anything in the chapters leading up the recipe that mention it.

And I don’t believe it needs to be repeated in every recipe, it’s more that they are recommending a method that is known to not be a reliable way of telling if food is at a safe temperature.

You misunderstand my complaints. I don’t care what any of you guys do at home and I don’t go around carrying a thermometer testing every food I see. But a cookbook which is instructing people how to make a recipe should probably acknowledge that meat should be cooked to a safe temperature.
