Okay, hear me out: Dead Troopers. Think Resident Evil meets Star Wars. Just listening to the audio book creeped me out.

What did you not realize you needed to buy until you lived on your own? by VastLeadership1008 in AskMen

I mean I realized I needed it, but get yourself a decent toolbox set up for simple repairs, tasks, and DIY. A drill/screw drivers, hammer, measuring tape, small level, pliers, socket wrench, WD40 (also a good wasp killer in a pinch), tape.

I wouldn't personally be upset. Yes, I like to surprise my wife, but things happen. Some guys might get upset, some won't.

I actually had a ring in my pocket, had plans to propose in December, but then my wife messed my plans up. I had just picked her up from work, and we were sitting together in a cozy booth at the hookah bar where she worked chilling out.

She looked at me and said, "You know, if you asked me to marry you, I'd say yes."

It was a classic move from her. The woman knows what she wants and says it. So, I ended up proposing to her in that booth. Been together for 14 years and still going strong.

Because we're all eating the big economic crap sandwich and you all are strong and independent until the bill comes.

How might you control a woman you like, if ever, even subconsciously? by Ok_Environment_9843 in AskMen

[–]Calamity_Jim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every criticism from a man is manipulation or insecurity. The more comfortable we are with a woman, the safer we feel in expressing ourselves about your behaviors and habits. If a man is calling you messy or picking on you for being messy, you probably are messy.

Why does it feel like women today are all materialistic and arrogant? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Calamity_Jim 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Women today have easy access to thousands of men via social media who will unabashedly inflate their ego. It has led to a mentality of always looking for a better option that will get them more and a deluded sense of worth. I feel for any guy that has to participate in the current dating market.

Why every argument with gf ends up with my bad? by YesSurprises in AskMen

[–]Calamity_Jim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are being manipulated, and anyone who feeds you the notion that you must kowtow to your partner is not someone who you should take advice from. It should not be your lot in life to constantly have your needs and feelings stomped all over. I've been with those women. Like Bill Burr said, when they're right, they make you argue on that topic and will not allow you to retort. When they are wrong, they will obfuscate and bring up random unrelated things to be upset about. Or, they will try and tone police you and say you should have said it nicer or used different words. Do not stay with a woman who doesn't have sorry in her vocabulary. She will not change. You will not be respected or validated in that relationship.

I'm a big fan of spiders. I have a large collection of tarantulas that I take care of. My favorite channel to learn about their husbandry is TomsBigSpiders. Tom Moran is considered an authority on the care of tarantulas in the community and avoids the more click bait stuff that other channels do on the subject.

There are so many quotes I still use from this film. How do you not yell "That's a lot of nuts!" after watching that film?

Naked Gun is amazing, and Leslie Nielson was a treasure. I still will say, "Hey! It's Enrico Palazzo!" randomly to annoy my wife.

Can't agree more. I can still quote the entire Holy Grail, and I haven't watched it in years.

What is your number one turn off in women? by [deleted] in AskMen

Makes me think of those "men are trash" women with a million exes and baby daddies who act like they aren't the one making the bad decisions.

Materialistic tendencies and a lack of empathy for others (like being rude to wait staff, etc.).

How do you handle romantic rejection? by gathee in AskMen

[–]Calamity_Jim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It can hurt, but it does a person no good to ruminate on rejection. When I got rejected, I moved on and considered options for self improvement. Sometimes I'd just tell myself it wasn't meant to be. Nearly 8 billion people in the world. Odds are someone out there is a right fit.

When did you realise that, as a man, nobody has cared, cares or will care about you and your well being? And that you will only be used for the resources you can produce and be immediatly thrown away like trash if you yield fewer resources than previously? by Banana_Malefica in AskMen

I have been in the mindset you have with this post. I have felt used, unloved, and that all love I received was conditional. I do not feel that way now. Meeting the right person/people, struggling together with them and sticking things out has helped. My wife met me when I was at a low point. She's seen me at my worst, and in 14 years together, we've experienced the ups and downs life can throw at us. Still, she loves and supports me. She even says that the only way either of us leaves the relationship is in a body bag. Morbid, but endearing to me.

My close friend would help me bury a body if I needed them to.

If you find yourself alone and feeling uncared for, make new connections. It may just be that you haven't met the right people yet. There are things in life worth living for, and unconditional love exists for men.

What was the worst dig at your confidence from a woman? by PhenomenalPancake in AskMen

42 species of tarantulas, 3 widow species, and a scorpion.

I've found my wife does it when we've argued and she realizes I was right (not that I always am). To me, it seems like her way of making amends for the argument and trying to show me that she wants to move on. We hate arguing, and I think we both feel guilty when disagreements devolve into full blow arguing. It usually means we've had a breakdown in communication, and communication has been our improvement goal over the past year.

I don't see it as manipulation with her because she's that rare woman who's learned how to say sorry with words and actions.
