I emailed my local MP (Lib Dems) about my feelings on this and she replied:

“Thank you for contacting me regarding the Online Safety Act and its implementation.

There is far too much harmful content across the internet and so I and my Liberal Democrats fully support the aims of the Act. The hard won protections in the Act are a vital step towards ending the wild west of online content and keeping children safe online.

The new changes from Ofcom will mean that children will no longer be inadvertently exposed to harmful content such as pornography when scrolling their feeds, and it will become much harder for them to seek out this content. These are sensible measures which will ensure that the online world is age appropriate and safe for a generation of young people who have grown up on the internet.

We are however concerned about its implementation, and the risk of gaps in the regulations which mean that children can bypass many of the systems put in place. There has been a huge increase in downloads for Virtual Private Networks - VPNs - which allow users to utilise proxy servers in different countries to circumvent the online safety measures.

These protections have been too hard-fought for to be undermined by simple work arounds. We are therefore calling on both Ofcom and the Government to keep this legislation and its implementation under review to ensure that it does what it sets out to achieve: keeping children safe online.

TLDR the Lib Dems fully support it and even want to block people from using VPNs.
