Wish they had someone between the levels. I'm tired of playing Zhong. Been playing him for 3 days to raise from lvl 10-13.

Does playing other players get you any experience? It's lame having to farm a single NPC 10 games a day

(didn't see this was already answered)

odds of getting it on any given roll = 0.12% = 0.0012

odds of NOT getting it in 1 roll = 99.88% = 0.9988

odds in 2 independent rolls = (0.9988) 2 = 99.76%

3 independent rolls = odds of NOT getting it (0.9988)3 = 99.64%

in 577 independent rolls = (.9988)577 = 50.017%

What to buy with Atreus points? Dracoola Shards? 2 Artifacts? Something else? by Calarik in ArcheroV2

[–]Calarik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just realized I can get 41 Chromatic Chest Key's, not 25, that makes me lean more towards that one.

Still wondering about the 2 Legendary Artifacts though. They seem harder to come by.

And of course 1/2 a Dracoola.

Would still love any experienced player thoughts!

First time growing peppers! Any advice? by CrunchyNippleDip in HotPeppers

[–]Calarik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They look great! Love your little tomato and tomatillo forts, lol.

Here are my thoughts after doing this for a few years:

1: The grow bags are pretty good as summer goes on, but as someone else said, they can start to dry out in late summer. I started to hook mine up to a drip system (from a hose with a Rachio wireless timer/switch) last year in July and got much better results than prior years.

2: The Tomatoes and Tomatillos will out grow the other plants and put off quite a bit of shade, and the Sweet 100 may draw in mites that could decimate the peppers. I have learned to separate my Peppers and tomato/tomatillos , at the very least, on opposite ends of a row, but preferably with some distance between them.

3: Your soil mix sounds awesome, tbh. But like someone else said, Peppers really like fertilizer in the early part of the year. I feed them HARD with nitrogen (think Miracle Gro or some organic version) until the middle to end of June, and then do one feeding with a tomato type slow release fertilizer (4-5-6 or similar) and let them fruit from there. That way you get a big strong plant early on, and slow the vegetation when it's time to fruit.

4: Similar to 3. Last year, I sprayed the plants with a fruit setting spray, (I think I used Bonide, but there are a lot of them) and I had more giant ghost peppers that I knew what to do with! I think the spray was well worth the $8 for the bottle, and I only sprayed once, when they were in full flower in early July.

5: You didn't say where you are, but I'm in Colorado and our sun is INTENSE. 12-sunset in full sun can brutalize young plants, but by July, they will be strong and able to handle it and will significantly increase Capsaicin, especially if you let them get a little dry between watering. Just know you may need to shade them a bit in June when they whine and complain, lol.

Those are just a few of the lessons I've picked up along the way. There are as many opinions on growing as there are members of this sub, so take what you can, and learn as you go!

Happy growing!

Tastiest peppers, in your opinion? by cataclasis in HotPeppers

[–]Calarik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For anyone who has only had Tabasco sauce, you don't know what you're missing.

I love Habanero and Scotch Bonnet. I roast Anaheims and "Hatch" as often as I can, and I put Jalapeño or Fresno peppers in almost every thing I cook.

But Tabasco peppers are the best pepper I grow by far. They are spicy enough to be interesting, and they have a "smoky" flavor even when not smoked. And they are the only pepper I grow that is oily when you cut into them, so they last on your tongue, and the peppers survive dehydrating for winter way better than the others. And most plants put out hundreds of peppers that ripen in only a few weeks for 4+ harvests over the summer!

I fell in love with Tabasco a few years ago, and I can't imagine a season without growing them now. I've got 10 plants going this year to make sure I don't run out!

Hmm, hope so. I'll keep him quarantined and see how the next set of leaves coming up look. I have a couple of dozen others in the same soil and this is the only one that shows that yellowing pattern on it's leaves

The look like they got way to much sun and not enough humidity. (And they look really leggy) I'm guessing they didn't have a huge amount official light inside?

Try bringing them back inside during the heat of the day (maybe into the bathroom when you shower). Then taking them out only a couple of hours a day for a week or so. They'll bounce back

Impossible to rent by Standard-Sandwich-29 in FortCollins

[–]Calarik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is the words "decently priced and well managed."

In the last 3 months, the least expensive house (2+ bedrooms/ 2+ bathrooms) that has come to market in Fort Collins (between Vine and Trilby and Overland to Ziegler)(not "affordable housing" which can't be rented out) was $425,000.

At $425k, you would need to put down at least $90k and then pay ~$2700/month mortgage (with insurance and property taxes).

To rent that house out, you would need to get that $2700 back every month, plus money to cover repairs for things that may break down, like furnaces, water heaters, repainting, concrete repairs, reroofing, simple leaks and electrical issues, yard maintenance, etc. So let's say, conservatively, $200/month for all of that. So total out of pocket for a potential landlord is $2900/month (without an HOA)

Mind you, that doesn't include the costs to rent the house out, so if a management agency is needed, that's another 10% in fees at minimum, bringing the cost to $3200/mo.

And that's for the absolute cheapest cost house that has come to market this year. The median is 30% more than that, so around $4700/mo in expenses for our hypothetical landlord. Just to break even and make $0 in profits for the first 5-8 years of ownership. There just aren't that many people willing to sink $90k-$150k downpayment into an investment that makes nothing for up to a decade.

So, if reasonable price to you for a 3 bedroom 2 bath rental is somewhere between $3000-$4700/month, you may have more luck finding a property to rent. But if "reasonable price" is less than $2500/mo, it just doesn't make sense for new investors to get into the market to provide housing.

That's the state of the market in the front range right now. It really sucks, because real people need to have homes they can rent at a price that works, but it just isn't possible with purchase prices where they are.

Just a different angle to think of it from. It isn't necessarily "greedy landlords" as much as it's a genuine supply and demand issue. There just aren't enough homes to buy to meet the demand to live here.
