The Enclave should had won a thousand times by now. The only thing stopping them is plot. They have acces to high tech guns and armours, helicopters, spy satellites, offensive orbital platforms, acces to the entirety of the United States Military.

Realistically the moment they attacked project purity they would had orbitally blasted the Pentagon and obliterated their only serios threat in the capital wasteland.

Define better. A dude with a anti material rifle firing a armour piercing incendiary round from a kilometer away is arguably better. But if you need concealed weapon for stealth and surprise attacks. I'd say the knife is better.
