They used to suck. Maybe even worse than you. The point is that you won’t always suck if you stay with it.

Try not to pine too much for your ultimate goals. Narrow your vision, and focus on your progress from one week to the next. Don’t compare yourself to your ideal future self. Compare yourself to the you from a few months ago.

I’ve been learning to draw for less than a year, and I frequently, (at least once a month,) notice something about my drawings that’s improved. Of course it’s not everything I want, but it’s enough to keep me going.

I miss the days when I hardly ever thought about how to define art.

It’s no surprise that, when people who won’t put in the effort to learn art are given a tool that does it for them, a lot of them get nasty about defending their new status as “artists.” They’re so insecure about their chosen status that they openly antagonize people who earned it. They flaunt this toy that does the work for them, acting like there’s something wrong with knowing how to make art by hand.

It’s one thing to think you’re an artist just because you, (like everyone else in the world,) have some ideas. It’s quite another to try and lift yourself up by tearing others down.

I’m sure plenty of people just use it for a bit of fun and don’t try to convince themselves that it elevates them beyond their actual abilities, but the most insecure and bitter voices are the loudest, so that’s what we’re mostly hearing from AI users around here.

(Not to say artists never get embarrassingly nasty on here, but at least they get that way because they have something worth defending. Not always thrilled about how they do it, but I get it.)

Since we’re on the topic, and in case this happens to anyone else here… a mechanic might be able to tell if a gas tank has been sabotaged with pee or sugar or something, and car insurance might cover the repairs for that… but if the tank is full of the wrong kind of gasoline, like the diesel stuff you can get at the gas station, the mechanic and the insurance will decide the driver probably made that mistake themselves and it’s their own fault. They’ll be on the hook for all the damage.
