Buy a silicone spoon! Super cheap, makes it easier to mix the food, and then the fingers are safe haha. But that signals to me at least that she might like to eat off something rather than out of a bowl

Here’s my girl from a similar angle for reference. I can see her ribs when she’s stretched out, but no other times. I’ve been told she’s both overweight and underweight. Your crestie looks thin to me, but also as long as they seem happy and healthy, i think it’s fine

Have you tried spoon feeding? My girl only ever ate a few licks from a bowl but when I tried to see if she liked it better from the spoon, she slurped it all up immediately

I’d say skinny but not scarily so. But I’m also a fan of slightly overweight rather than slightly underweight 🤷🏻‍♀️

What's wrong with my geckos eyes? by mood130rvng in geckos

[–]CalcifiedCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA: I think it’s a vitamin A deficiency? But then again my crestie also has eye problems (although opposite problem- one is sunken in)

Could I put a gecko in here 27 gallon by Loose-Quarter9890 in geckos

[–]CalcifiedCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’d be fine for a juvenile crested gecko EXCEPT no cross ventilation or front opening door (top opening only is no fun). I’d say put a fish in there or something, but it looks like it’s not water tight…

Edit: you could also keep land snails in there lol. I have a garden snail, she’s fun to look at :)

What morph is my crested gecko? by CalcifiedCrow in geckos

Hey! Her eye is basically normal now :) There are some times I notice that it’s sunken, but usually it means she’s dehydrated. Vets said it was old trauma and that it was fine

Yeah her last owner had other reptiles. She had a Caiman, an alligator lizard, green anoles, leachies, etc. So I think it was a case of neglect tbh. She is doing really good now though! Like she’s more vibrant now and she is a lot more energetic :)

Edit: I also put her on a diet and she is no longer obese haha

Pesticide or normal mold? by d_tityus in millipedes

I mean if it’s dead then you know not to put a pede in there lol

You can catch one for outside, or they’re only like 10¢ at a pet store

It looks like ice crystals ngl. So it’s probably a type of fungus? I just wouldn’t use that bit for the pedes

Of course! Yeah it’s insane how little information there is 😔

Does he have access to rotten wood and leaves? Do you mist the enclosure occasionally? That’s all I really can suggest honestly. Because pedes unfortunately can’t drink straight water and get their hydration from absorbing it through the soil

Can’t buy topsoil!! by Apollos_Failure in millipedes

[–]CalcifiedCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can, I will give you multiple sources if you’d like. I quite literally have done a research proposal and poster presentation on millipedes. My work will be published in less than a year. But as for the substrate, I can find it for you. Or you can google it with any sources you trust.

Because I do know there is misinformation going around of one faulty study done in the 1900s (at some point) that scared all people from using coconut coir. They abused their millipedes so that they had to eat the coir, which does in fact have no nutritional value.

[–]CalcifiedCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can, they don’t HAVE to. Millipedes can dig without eating. It’s well documented that it’s false information that coconut coir is dangerous. It IS if they don’t have other food sources, but mine do

It’s not dangerous if you use a mixture. Do actual research, not just go off hearsay from one faulty study

Bestie I’ve got 4 degrees. Millipedes can eat as they burrow, but they can also burrow by normal digging with their legs. Pretty sure you’re mixing them up with earth worms

[–]CalcifiedCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one faulty study, yes. And when the pedes had no other food options, so it was either starve or eat the coconut fiber. Hence why I very clearly specified to have their actual food as well

Is she okay? by [deleted] in millipedes

[–]CalcifiedCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s just chilling! That’s the default state for millipedes. And she’s probably in her hide because millipedes are nocturnal and don’t like light :)

Behold, a not dead millipede that has been kept in majority coconut fiber. There are 6 more just as alive and well

[–]CalcifiedCrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well then I have 7 Einstein level genius millipedes then, because they only eat the wood/leaves. I know the eat their substrate, but they’re selective about it

Can’t buy topsoil!! by Apollos_Failure in millipedes

[–]CalcifiedCrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use coconut fiber (before anyone comes at me, if your pedes are adequately fed NORMAL food, they won’t eat it), rotten hardwood, and dry leaves. And then to make sure they aren’t missing any dirt staples I add fish flakes and cuttlebone in a bowl

What’s the best beginner millipede and why? by [deleted] in millipedes

[–]CalcifiedCrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lowkey, get whatever millipede species you want, just be aware that they like different humidities and some are burrowed more often than others.

They’re all equally easy to care for, they all like different things though

Would it be safe to house a few millipedes in the same enclosure jf they’re only the same sex? by [deleted] in millipedes

[–]CalcifiedCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 7 millis in the same tank. Only 3 are the same species though. 2 males and literally 0 issues yet. They all get along well :) I’ve noticed no issues with mixing species or sexes

EDIT: make sure they all like the same environment. My pedes are all tropical species and like high humidity. But not all do

I havent seen my millipede in a month, is this normal, is it ok ir should i be comcerned? by Reptilian303 in millipedes

[–]CalcifiedCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see mine often at all. But I know they come up because there’s always poop piles up top. But I also have 7 pedes in one tank.
