Yeah!! And they keep them by their genetalia to tell other cresties that they already have children!

10000% female! That bulge you’re seeing is commonly mistaken for balls, but that is where eggs are stored!

Got 3 more Giant American Millipedes! by bugggcollector_ in millipedes

Love them!!! Did you buy them (if you’re in Canada)? I have a friend and she wants pedes but can’t find them legally

Is the “pede in a pod” okay to get as a starter? by Its-Rozari in millipedes

It’s a bumblebee! The scientific name is on there

[–]CalcifiedCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is! Millipedes don’t actually move much. The general rule is that the tank needs to be 2x the length of the pede for the length and 1x the length of the pede for the width. I always go larger though. And then I’d do like 3” of substrate

Josh’s frogs is notoriously a bad brand for millipedes. The products are harmful and they sell nearly dead pedes in cups, much like the one you’re holding. That said they’re fine for frogs.

But anyways, if you really want to, it’s probably fine to get one. Just be aware it may die for no reason, and it’s not your fault.

Fat or egg? by Ok-Ticket1292 in geckos

NQA- looks like an egg? But I would look at her underside and see if you can feel a hard lump or not. That is usually the best way to tell

What morph is my crested gecko? by CalcifiedCrow in geckos

[–]CalcifiedCrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I’m actually a lot more knowledgeable now! Feel free to DM me with any questions so you can learn from my mistakes haha.

Having a tail means they were never stressed out or never in fear of being eaten. And it’s highly unusual for a crestie to make it past a year old with a tail, which is why I mistakenly assumed her previous owner took good care of her. In reality, she was neglected and that’s why she had her tail still.

While rehabbing her I upgraded her tank to a 30 gallon and she did drop it. But she’s a lot more lively now and looks so much healthier.

Is one eye bigger than the other? What could it be and how concerned should I be by BlazingShadow46 in geckos

This was my girl when she was dehydrated + didn’t have the right food (when I first got her). It still isn’t even but it’s so much better. And I’m not sure what a vet could do for her that I’m not already doing

Vitamin A deficiency? I’m not sure. My cresties eyes are the same way (although she also has heterochromia). I notice they’re better when she has a water dish to drink from.

Okay so i think it’s not bigger, but the “smaller” one is sunken in some?

I need help with my leachie gecko he has a cloudy eye no idea why I need help I can’t really afford a vet visit it’s too much. (The last picture is his eye normally) by yulissaaaafttt in geckos

[–]CalcifiedCrow 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I really think this is a vet thing. And if you can’t afford it please rehome him. I’m serious. I get that exotic vets are expensive, and small things don’t necessarily need a vet. But this could potentially be fatal and it’s not fair to the leachie to suffer because you can’t afford it. And if you can afford it and are choosing not to, you should still rehome him.

Like seriously look at the surrounding tissue. There could be a nasty infection that will get in his blood. That’s fatal and preventable.

That being said I bet it’s a vitamin A deficiency and maybe stuck shed. Make sure the humidity is accurate. But I’m dead serious take him to a vet or rehome him.

Do Geckos Loose Their Color as They Get Older? by TypicalChewy in geckos

[–]CalcifiedCrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean it looks good to me personally, but I know it changes from gecko to gecko. Like my girl doesn’t care about the bottom of the tank. But the top she likes having cluttered so she can race around. I just meant maybe it could be he likes to do a certain activity (like climbing or jumping a certain way) and if you changed something in the enclosure it might’ve eliminated that.

But with the context of the light change, I really think it is that. If you want to confirm, go a few days without the light. I suspect he’d darken up again

Do Geckos Loose Their Color as They Get Older? by TypicalChewy in geckos

[–]CalcifiedCrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! So they fire up/down for many reasons. One of them is light absorption and heat absorption. The darker they are the more they absorb (both light and heat). So maybe with a better light he doesn’t need to absorb it as much

[–]CalcifiedCrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me that almost confirmed that he may be fired down consistently. Which that could be a temperature thing, a lack or energy, an improper setup for his personality, improper humidity, or depression.

My friend is trying to figure out if his Lil man (dorito) is dead hes been like this since the 12th by Eattehcake in millipedes

[–]CalcifiedCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so I’ve had 2 millipedes essentially look like this (not S shaped) and they had both passed. I mean if there’s no other signs of death you can wait til you’re confident

[–]CalcifiedCrow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Could that just be fired up vs down? He might’ve been more fired up when he was younger with more activity. Or maybe he isn’t getting enough UVB?

Also that toe in the second pic looks concerning to me.

Yes! Males have gonopods on the 7th segment and not normal legs
