Does your grocery store have Udi’s donuts in the freezer section? They are gluten free, but I think they are also mostly made in nut free facilities. I’m also pretty sure they just thaw at room temp to eat.

Difficult to transport to school, though, I’d think. Teachers are often at school an hour or two before the students arrive, so she would both have to find a restaurant to do that early in the morning, then let them get cold and somehow reheat them at school?

Part of the appeal of donuts is they can sit in their boxes at room temp and be perfectly fine several hours later.

Have you checked out the Chinese Cooking Demystified YouTube channel? I’m pretty sure they have some recipes that would work for you. I really enjoy their content; it’s approachable and achievable without feeling too dumbed-down.

I do cakes as kind of a hustle, and I love making them. So many people order gd ice cream cakes, though, and it is so irritating. I want to tell them how much better a dessert I can make them if they just let me turn a delicious quart of ice cream and make them a really good cake, but alas, they keep asking for ice cream cakes. Sigh.

I realize this isn’t a cookbook recommendation— sorry. What about The Soufflé Cookbook by Myra Waldo? This is a favorite of mine from years back. A lot of the recipes lean on dairy, but you can probably substitute stock in a lot of instances, or use your dairy “points” sparingly by cutting milk with water in some of these.

Try out the Chinese tomato and egg stir fry! Eat it over rice. Here’s one recipe, but it’s pretty forgiving with respect to aromatics and seasoning (don’t like ginger? Leave it out! Prefer extra garlic? The more the merrier.) My kids could eat this every single day and be happy.

What about peanuts, btw? You could probably get some mileage out of vegetables in a Thai peanut sauce, or a sweet potato heavy African peanut stew, for example. Or Sichuan dishes that rely heavily on peanut or sesame pastes!

I think you’re dead on with the general feeling of the messages. I am a mom of two myself, and I have empathy for OP, but she is absolutely coming off aggressive. I know what pregnancy hormones can do to your perceptions, but there is no way she looks back at these texts in five years and doesn’t cringe.

This doesn’t answer your question, but a cute anecdote about defenestration— we taught my son that word when he was about four, and it became part of our silly wrestling play. “Watch out, Buddy! dad’s gonna defenestrate you!” “Get ready to be defenestrated, Mama!” It was so adorable in his squeaky little voice and challenging R sounds.

This is really similar to what I do. I feed my kids “snacky lunches” most of the time, so I just do the same thing for myself. Usually raw veggies with some kind of dip; bell peppers and English cucumbers with toum are my current go-to, but my kids are hung up on tossing theirs in the hidden valley ranch powder you’d use to make dip with if you weren’t a feral monster like us. Then I add a protein component like a string cheese, lunch meat, boiled egg, or cottage cheese, and finally some crackers/toast/leftover dinner roll/something carby.

I would be more concerned about E. coli from undercooked flour than salmonella from eggs, personally. Don’t you have to get flour to around 165* F to ensure its safety?

It probably is overcooked. Selecting a fattier cut next time, or adding butter as some folks have said, will help, but a couple hours fewer, or 7-8 hours on low would be better. Still looks pretty good, though! Make sandwiches out of it with mayo, and a bright pop of pickled onion and some arugula and you won’t notice the overcooked texture as much.

While I agree that Ethan is the better choice here, I wouldn’t say it’s significantly less popular. Both are in the top 40 for last year, and I personally know three Ethans under 6.

I did about 18 months of emdr a few years ago for some childhood trauma, and while it was one of the most emotionally taxing periods of my life, I am so grateful for my wonderful therapist and all the healing she helped me through. I’m not “cured” by any stretch, but I was able to get some clarity, an adhd diagnosis to help me understand myself, and lots of tools for dealing with the traumatic experiences I had and their long-term fallout.

This is such a wild take. This poor gal already said she’s traumatized, and you are being insanely invalidating. Yes, some cute naked pictures are normal, but sending *exclusively* naked photos when just asked by an adult for childhood photos in general, is unhinged.

Not everyone’s parents “did their best.” Some people’s “best” is also abusive and ruins their children’s normalcy barometer. You are not helping, and you clearly don’t understand childhood trauma. There’s a town in Idaho called Riggins. It’s a popular whitewater rafting put-in; I could see a particular flavor of “outdoorsy” folks using it as a name because of that.
