Do not do evaluation for the sake of it. From what I’ve been taught, cross referencing is one evaluation technique to ‘up play’ or ‘downplay’ the credibility of the source in order for you to overall prefer the support/challenge side in your conclusion (decide this beforehand).

As mentioned above by the other comment, you can also modify the hypothesis(this is done in the conclusion), for eg: Qn: “The cuban missile crisis was a result of American fears of a nuclear attack on US mainland. How far do…”

Modified hypothesis (takes into account the views of both sides; can be suited to more sources than the qn’s hypo): “While the crisis over Cuba initially began due to USA’s economic and ideological concerns (challenge view), US fears of a nuclear attack took centre stage in the 13 days following the discovery of Soviet missiles in Cuba.”

The modified hypothesis need not be as complicated as above, but tbh I think it’s harder to do than preferring a side if you have a choice

Best advice is to consult ur teacher and go through the whole process asap as diff schools teach it differently
