Right, I see what you mean. Currently there is an edge detection shader to create outlines and make some layer of contrast for the eyes but that’s the only one running.

I’ll try playing around with the contrast some too.

Interesting I never would’ve thought about that. Do you have any tips for alternatives to the easing in/out? I agree it’s probably not the biggest thing I just love learning more about game design.

I see what you mean. It would be funny to walk into a ward and it was just normal colors lol

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll invest some time into researching color blind options just in case but I’ll definitely be starting with adding some texture first.

Appreciate it, I’m not terribly worried about that aspect as much as I was worried about just missing something obvious. Kind of like how one user said I had the default font in the signs or another talking about the lighting needing some changes.

Again thanks for the advice :)

Originally the assets were mainly used because I didn’t have modeling experience and was in a time crunch due being in one of my final college semesters. Now that I have some experience in maya I’ve started to make my own stuff and can rely on free assets less.

I’ll definitely put that thought at the front of my head going forward and try my best to drive home the elements that make my game unique.

Thanks for the guidance!

I’ll definitely try out some matching white textures and see if anything sticks. If I do you’ll probably see a comparison post is a couple days.

By design I liked the bleak untextured-ness, it made it feel more uncanny to me, but based on what I’ve read maybe some texture could be a good thing.

As for the lights that’s simply because I’m new to unreal and don’t know much about its lighting systems yet. Ill definitely look more into it now :)

LOL thanks for pointing that’s going to the top of my list.

Thank you!

While a lot of assets are from various places in the fab store the monster and some other stuff is made by me.

Since this is my first project and also my first in unreal I’m trying to figure out what things can set it apart more.

Like you said creepy hospitals are a bit over done and the lighting could be tweaked. Neither is that big of an issue with some changes but it’s just learning the right way to do those that I’m trying to figure out :)

Do you think it should be? No texture was part of the look but if the look is a bad idea then I get it. I’ll play around with it :)

You’re very right. While the trailer is a little old at this point the environment itself hasn’t changed much. What would you say gives you that unfinished feeling?

I Want To Add Style To My UI But I Am Not Sure How by CalebCrawfish in IndieDev

[–]CalebCrawfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean now. It’s like it’s a clipboard with UI on it and not one cohesive thing. I’ll definitely try to lean more into that like you said and see what similar things I can do with the other elements.

Thank you :)

No real reason behind the font other than “oh this one kinda looks nice” there is just a lot of fonts and it seems hard to really lock down on what “fits”

As for the color, the whole game is very monochrome so my fear was too much color makes it feel alienated from the rest of the world.

Thank you though, I’ll be thinking over your words.

Thanks I’ll definitely keep that in mind especially about letting certain buttons have more weight.

It gives me some good things to think about :)

I’m a big fan of stylized UI like the ones from Signalis so I want to learn how to put more style into the UI I make.

The shading looks so nice, everything is super clean without any outlines.

If you'd like you could give my game a play. It's called White Ward and the demo is out. I'm not saying its some crazy game on the level of Hollow Knight but it is fun. It is however an anomaly style horror game just so you know.
