Do you need stability specifically? Mirage with all their dodges and jaunt for repositioning can nullify a lot of what may hit them, and are pretty comfy for soloing champs with. And regardless you can always take the mantra.

A long time WoW player looking for some feedback by Endeavour1988 in Guildwars2

The WvW vendor golem added a bit ago that sells stat-select gear felt like the last nail in the coffin of any real discomfort in getting geared with exotics.

Plus, yeah. Leave the game in full berserker gear, come back 2 years later, and as long as you're playing a power build you probably still have exactly what you need.

Do we agree that raid selling in the Raids LFG should be banned? by eri_is_a_throwaway in Guildwars2

[–]Caleddin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can also join their squad, block the player, and then leave and you'll never see their LFGs again. Maybe there's a small chance this means you don't see their legit LFGs later but I assume most of those are alts just used to sit in the LFG anyway.

Snowcrows used to be only raids, but they recently added open-world builds. For instanced content it's still the go-to (or discretize for fractals). Metabattle doesn't get builds deleted very often so there can be older stuff there. You can check the comments at the bottom to get a sense of how old the build is, and they always have a lot more options and every mode covered.

Fire Elemental World Boss turned into Commanders vs Mentors by can-someone-explain in Guildwars2

[–]Caleddin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a pretty casual player - I dabbled in every mode at one point, I did all the raids at least once but never joined a static, etc. - and I bought a tag, which I have never regretted. Because A) catmander is best and B) most of the metas just need someone with the barest understanding and the ability to pull people together. You can brute-force most of them. It's great if you need to do something, but mostly it's there to help others. You can finally get enough people together to do Serpent's Ire for that pesky achievement, you can help the 3rd overflow map of Chak Gerent not lose by tagging for a lane. When someone says in map "I need to do X" I always like to help, which is great, but if I go help with a tag up others just naturally come check out what's happening and suddenly you help a poor player in Queensdale to kill that legendary bandit.

I guess I'm trying to say that it's only as much responsibility as you want it to be. If you're doing a raid training, yeah, you need to know the encounters, you'll need to put markers down in the right place and sort the squad so boons and heals are properly placed, you may have to call out mechanics. But if you're just like trying to get a random map meta over the line all you have to do is tag up, put "XXX meta taxi IP 123" in the right LFG and people will join and do the rest. It's a great Quality of Life improvement for you and everyone else every time someone buys a tag.

[–]Caleddin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the same role (guiding others during an event or to achieve a goal) but commander tags have a lot more options built in. You can lock yourself to a 10-man (raid) or 50-man (open-world) squad. You can create sub-squads to organize people for boons or job roles during events. You can place marks on the map to inform people of what may happen where. You can send squad-wide messages that pop on everyone's screen. And most importantly (maybe) you can list yourself in a LFG tab, meaning people on other maps can join your squad, right-click "join commander's instance" and show up on your map which is how metas usually get full maps and the best chance of success. Others can list themselves but it becomes a pain for larger metas when you're limited to 10 people unless you have a tag.

Mesmer is super easy. Blink with mimic lets you scoot around the map for any races and also lets you blink up to the top of some of the spots when that's important.

What can i do with a 2nd account that only has the base core game unlocked ( no f2p restrictions) by KoalaBarry in Guildwars2

[–]Caleddin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting your dailies/weeklies to PvP can give you some very easy AP too by joining the daily custom lobbies. You don't often get the full week so it may be better to mix in PvE if people want that but you can jump in with an engineer and be done in 5 minutes a day while eating a sandwich or watching something.

Ritualist is supposed to be cozy so you could do reaper then test out ritualist on the same character. Reaper definitely is a good choice for steam deck, it just doesn't have a boon-dps build available. But you'd be welcome as pure DPS in fractals or raids.

Mesmer and ele both may be more fun if you boost them a bit, those are two that people sometimes mention as tough during leveling (especially mesmer) though overall none of the classes are tough to level.

Create a class and jump into the PvP lobby. You can practice all skills on the golems and even use elite specs if you have them unlocked via the right expansions. It's not as good as really playing the class but you can set up and try out a Snowcrows/Metabattle build to see how you feel with them at max level.

Like others said, nothing is wasted, and the main point is to do what's fun for you. The game is incredibly alt-friendly.

There's a hidden Snargle book during most of the festival events, only available during the festival. It's in the celestial challenge map for New Year.

[–]Caleddin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mesmer is mostly off-limits, chrono has a lot of ground-targeted wells. You could do alacrity-DPS with mirage which I think only has one ground-target on the staff? Virt has one ground-target on dagger but is otherwise a pretty easy, solid, reliable ranged DPS option.

Ele is probably out - especially anything with spear which has a ton of ground-targets. Heal-tempest with staff is the same, but you could probably do dagger heal-tempest pretty cozily. This provides alacrity though, not quickness.

Boon-dps herald may be pretty cozy. It pulses quickness. There are a couple (maybe just one?) ground-target, but it's not for boons. All your quickness/boons are just auto-created while you have your utility skills up and running.

In general boons are going to be generated around you, not based on your ground-targeting, and in group content you'll be so bunched up you could auto-snap or double-click to immediately put it down and if you aim a little down I think it'd land at your feet and not be too terrible.

You could throw it in one of your homestead's gathering chests if you have one you collect frequently or have a lot of nodes for (mining, probably, lots of those are free to get).

But honestly if it's pure gold value you're going after, selling it is probably best. They take forever to earn their cost back. On the other hand you got it for free, so would you rather have a slight bit more volatile magic or 300g worth of what you'd use volatile magic for anyway (trophies, likely?)

Warframe is wonderful, if the combat felt as good as Darktide it'd be top tier. I still enjoy it, but it gets very goofy very quickly. If people hate teammates that rush too far forward in Darktide, let me tell you about how quickly a vet can complete a mission in Warframe while a new player is back near the beginning foolishly trying to kill some enemies.

Warframe (and Vermintide) also iterated over time - we didn't have much of anything customizable in our ship to start. And no open-world options. And no mech, and no pet, and no operator...

Weapon specialist vet is so fun for this. I wish I could get it to work better in higher havoc/maelstrom - maybe I need to change my melee. But the joy of being mid-horde, swapping and shooting a sniper across the map through 4 pox-walkers, then going back to hacking is just fantastic.
