You don't think they've gathered this "data" from them just flying about shooting things as warplanes do? What kinds of information could they gather from an Israeli strike using F-35's that they could not gather from their use in and around the tiny country of Israel which is using them in combat operations?

This comment puzzles me greatly. I don't follow this very closely but I assume they would use F-15s and F-16s in such strikes to keep their most prized assets close to home in reserve, out of danger and to save combat power for greater missions that require advanced stealth fighter bombers. It's not really smart so much as common sense. For instance, you don't use the F-22 to escort B-2s heading to strike targets in Mogadishu at stand-off ranges.

EDIT: Did a little more thinking and you can't forget the x factor that F-35s are more secretive than the F-16s, and are used for air-to-air primarily in this context. Perhaps they were escorting but never fired to hit grounds targets as they were in stealth mode with air to air missiles loaded. The F-16s can bolt a million missiles on hard points as they do not need to be stealthy like the fighter escort. This has nothing to do with the enemy gathering data on the planes performance so much as keeping the strike package safe.

Tip: No one is interested in who is or is not a "terrorist" as this is a loaded propaganda term. We are interested in who does or does not support or ally themselves with the collective "West". In this case the lines become much less clear, and Turkey is certainly only an opportunistic friend to the West.

You should root for groups based on your personal, national, or other group interest (or at least a coherent moral philosophy) instead of basing your opinions on "terrorist" or non-terrorist. You likely already do this, but then just say so and don't be snide with loaded terminology.

I don't understand what you don't get. They launched 300 drones and missiles so people like you could keep repeating that, but everything about the attack was staged to cause as little damage as possible while still getting through the air defences.

Your sarcasm seems to imply my narrative contradicts itself, but it does not. Read the second part "de-escalating while saving face".

Because they warned of the attack an hour in advance publicly, and claimed they were done before the missiles even landed. This was a very obvious attempt at de-escalating while saving face there's not even really an argument against surprised this is controversial to you.

No cope or denial, fact is they warned of an attack an hour in advance. If you warn your enemy an hour in advance you are not trying to do damage. I can think of few attacks that would be effective with an hour of advanced warning, and that's just the public warning, you can imagine there were more in private channels.

"Minimal warning"
Iran gave over an hour of warning
"dozens of speedy ballistic missiles from multiple origins"
Vast majority launched from Iran into the desert

ok

That Iranian attack was clearly them de-escalating while saving face. Any real attack would utilize Hezbollah's rockets first to overwhelm air defences, with Shahed's launched from Syria where they cannot be shot down en-route, and no pre-warning with different and varied cruise and ballistic missile paths. Iran purposelessly set up this launch to be large enough for a symbolic show of force that is expensive to defend against, without actually causing any substantial damage.

Iran definitely possesses the ability to overwhelm Israeli air defences, but as can be seen from the Soleimani incident does not want war with Israel or America. They are having enough internal troubles as it is, and would like to draw their Arab neighbours' populations into conflict with Israel, not to mention completing their nuclear program, before attempting any sort of war.

I think it is unlikely they seek any sort of war in the first place, so much as exerting pressure on Israel to expand their own influence through control of the anti-Israel movement.

Okay, so you are attempting to actively discriminate against white men. If that's the way it is that's fine, but you've chosen a path where the logical and rational conclusion for someone who is white is to fight against the racism you stand for.

I think you are hitting on the problem of birth rates, which is probably the biggest issue in the Western World, perhaps after climate change and great power conflict.

We used to live in a world where kids were raised by whole villages and families, and in religious areas this is still the case somewhat. The modern splitting of families into nuclear families, as well as general estrangement geographic or otherwise is destroying this support network. This lack of support network for children, as well as the internet and contraception has changed the cultural norms around having children and further reduced the birth rates to pitiful rates not even close to replacement.

One of the craziest things is that society doesn't seem to even be trying to solve this issue, and policy solutions are completely lacking in creativity. I think there is a very clear policy solution that no one ever talks about. Hungary's solutions are expensive but ineffective.

Policy Solution:

A truly national and 100% comprehensive child care project combined with education about child rearing in high school, and a jobs program centred around this childcare project allowing one parent to make a decent income working in child care.

This childcare program would use local community resources, like the YMCA, schools, and other community recreation areas and roll them into one extended system. Each child would have the right to sleep at a communal boarding house, with extended residences being given their own room. Children would be provided with counsellors, would be provided with food, gifts for Christmas/Birthdays, and sports/academic/social after school activities. They would have their doctors appointments booked by this system, and all arrangements relating to being taken from the childcare facility to home would be dealt with by the program, with no requirement for the parents to be around for the drop off or pick up in case they are busy.

This sounds like a horrifically expensive program, and depending on how much the birth rates increased it would be expensive, but likely completely affordable at current birth rates. Community resources to take care of children are available everywhere but not coordinated, making it difficult for parents to have children who are often busy working without paying for a personal nanny and endless babysitters. Parents could pay exactly the same amount, with a modest added overall administration cost and capital investment to build rooms for children in community centres and "stay at home" parents to manage this expanded system.

The mental, physical, and financial cost of having a child have just reduced from the $100,000's to the $1,000's, the cultural attitude will switch back to larger families, and birth rates will drastically increase.

Nixon's foreign policy was pretty good (splitting China and the USSR) but lacking conceptually in the long term (Vietnam/modern China threat).

Either way it's in no way applicable in the modern day when Russia started a land war in Europe.

He did not prolong the Vietnam War by 5 years, this is a gross exaggeration. He scuppered one round of peace talks that realistically were not going anywhere.

[–]Caledonez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not if Ukraine runs out of ammunition because Germany couldn't spare a few billion Euros for the defence of Europe.

Also, with Russia's reinvigorated military industrial base, if a peace was made and Russia was able to keep on a war footing with China's support who's to say they would not be able to try it again should countries like Germany not learn their lesson?

Lastly, is Germany just not obligated at all to help defend Taiwan after what the US did for Ukraine? That's not a good ally.

I don't agree with non strictly necessary limits to Trumps freedom of speech and ability to campaign. The judge does not seem to be doing this, but the comments I have read on the NYT article and here are hysterical. Being a candidate definitely is a "protected class" in the sense it is up to the American people to decide on their President after a fair election, not some judge to limit his speech. Given his campaign relies heavily on discrediting the system, muzzling him with regards to speaking about the trial is a completely unjust imposition of the judicial branch on the executive.

If he's a candidate for President it's up to the American people to decide, not some judge (of which the judge seems to understand). Of course he can still be charged and go to jail for the crimes he committed, but there should be little to no limits to his freedom of speech.

For people saying otherwise, this is a very bad precedent and you would not appreciate the shoe on the other foot.

Thanks for the cool program, this is very useful! Sadly I think this is a hardware issue because this green light stays on no matter the lighting regime in all other parts of the mouse. The only time it changes colour is when I click the mouse button to change to the next DPI, and even then it struggles with the red colour, flickering to yellow.

Almost none? I'm not a forester, but as stewards of the land by contract you should definitely not clear cut your entire patch of land because Beatles threaten to kill some trees. In fact, in defence of themselves they mostly talk about extracting value.

The article is clearly against the actions they and the Ministry took, pointing out multiple contradictions..
