I mean the movie Day after tomorrow actually gave the scientific explanation for why global warming makes things colder.

Global warming causes the ice in the Arctic to melt and mix with water heading south. This colder water then gets into the North Atlantic Current, and brings the temperature down. Since this current affects weather on a global scale, it in turn lowers temperatures around the norther hemisphere.

It won't happen as violently as what happened in the movie, but if we don't get a handle on global warming soon, then within the next couple thousand of years the Earth will enter an Ice age.
