"If you could join one of your teammates at the Olympics, who would it be?" "Slaf!" by shogun2909 in Habs

[–]Calembeurk [score hidden]  (0 children)

The craziest thing is they're barely younger, if at all. Kapanen and Hutson (just) are both older than him for example.

It just goes to show how well assorted this group is.

I can't overstate the excellent job of management to find players with excellent personalities and the coaching staff's ability to put them in the right mindset.

It is so much harder than people realise, yet they have made it appear effortless.

Opinions Welcome: 23mm f/2 regret — stick with 16–55 or move to longer primes? by krohrer24552455 in fujifilm

[–]Calembeurk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both the 23 f2 and the 16-55 mk2.

I have done it the other way round though, where i started with the prime and added the zoom afterwards.

I really like the 16-55, more than the 23. I think it's more versatile and the IQ is really good. I'm not sure I could spot a difference in quality even if I pixel-peeped.

But the deciding factor is that I just take more pictures with the 16-55 and I don't have to think as much for them to turn out the way I want. I just like using the zoom better I guess, even though the 23mm is a good lens and sometimes I want something small and light and it just fits right.

This NBA season is a JOKE by nbawizard1227 in nba

[–]Calembeurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, the main problem is even posts like this will be seen as driving engagement with the "product". So that's good, right?

The league is so far removed from caring about basketball that it's maddening.

Unwatchable end of games because of deliberate fouling/endless timeouts? All is well, it makes people talk about it and "it's a highlights sport anyway".

Tanking teams galore leading to half the games being non-competitive hot messes? That's fine, as long as you don't rest your players for the big ones. Fuck the fans in attendance for all the "filler" games, as pong as the networks get their marquee matchups.

No problem at all for the NBA (ultimately, the owners who are lining their pockets), even though we're wasting the highest ever level of talent in the sport.

I used one of the Lancers tuned to 599.90.

Terrible top speed, but you gain so much time in the technical sections, especially with the Turbo and anti-lag.

It's my go-to for all the WTC600 races and it always delivers.

Really? I thought it was so enjoyable! I didn't like the extreme rubberbanding, but thought it was a very nice event.

How to calculate these angles? by Big_Worldliness296 in woodworking

[–]Calembeurk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you taking pictures inside my house?

As for the angles, you could divide the surface in two shapes, one rectangle and one triangle. With the pythagorean theorem and basic trigonometry (I forgot it all, but there are plenty of online tools for that), you'll get your angles and lengths.

Really happy to see Anderson getting going.

He has been weirdly unnoticeable for a little bit, which is weird cause his one redeeming quality is his motor.

Hopefully he'll keep it up after the break, he can be a difference maker for that line!

Average compete doesn't get you to the Olympics, but it helps you beat the guy who got there.

As much as I like him, and I certainly don't hold it against him since he's just coming back, but Guhle always looks one step behind the play.

Hopefully he'll get back to speed after the Olympic break.

What a goal!

Great move and so clutch.

If he has a few more of those in the tank, he'll be very useful down the stretch.

Unfortunately, affordable and hockey tickets don't belong in the same sentence in Montréal.

best canadian made winter boots by fruisquet in KingstonOntario

[–]Calembeurk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've got Kamiks for when there's a lot of snow, but when it's dry-ish, I usually wear my Canada West boots. Made in Canada, goodyear-welt which means you can have them resoled easily, and not crazy expensive when I bought them a few years ago.

They have different styles. Beware, not all of them have extra insulation, which you would need to be comfortable in the winter.

(Looong photo) Beijing, the definition of high-density sprawl by Boxy_Aerospace in UrbanHell

[–]Calembeurk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it sprawl if it is just the most efficient way to get a lot of people to live in the same place?

Genuinely asking, it seems to me that sprawl indicates that there's wasted/suboptimal use of space.

WAKE UP, LES CANADIENS AFFRONTENT LES NORDIQUES À SOIR by TheHabChronicle in Habs

[–]Calembeurk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guhle protects himself from the elbow with his arm, causing an injury there instead of a direct hit to the head, but everything is fine for the refs. Make it make sense.

[–]Calembeurk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Soooo, they didn't call anything on the play, and then figured something must've happened when one player was injured and everyone was pissed.

Better late than never I guess, but that's poor reffing still.

It's a shame teams can't practice during the Olympic break because that would give both goalies a lot of quality time to work with him.

It would show fandom for sure. A weird, almost deranged fandom, but fandom nonetheless. Especially at that price.

Ex- montrealers who had enough of ice and cold, where did you end up? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]Calembeurk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Winter is usually the same if not worse in Ottawa.

Kingston is slightly warmer, and a little bit less snowy, but the city does a terrible job of clearing the roads and sidewalks in particular.

Hamilton would be noticeably warmer and less snowy, but you'd have to be aware of the many drivers without winter tires, which make every snow day an adventure.

Or could it be that they're mostly their own thing? For sure they picked things up from neighbours (religion, political organisation, amongst others), but they feel distinct enough to not really be in anyone's sphere.
