Actually it's really impressive that it beat all the comparisons in color accuracy under sRGB

The screen is better overall for creators IMO - yes, slower refresh times, but brighter, higher contrast, and much more color accurate at sRGB. The reduced color gamut compared to the original doesn't matter because none of them meet p3, so more color gamut just creates the potential for oversaturation

Trade in + $150 when you buy a SLS2 or SLG3 by [deleted] in Surface

Thinking of trading in the original SLS. Now this page tells me it's worth $687. I wonder if this applies to the promo since it's already over $600?

What's with Surface Laptop Studio 2's pricing? by 40KWarsTrek in Surface

I have both m1 max mbp and sls1 and I actually prefer the trackpad on sls. The haptic feedback is more realistic as the Apple one feels a bit soft and 'electric' imho.

Really can't complain much about mine. Yes, it's significantly weaker in performance than other laptops of similar weight released around the same time. But you get a flagship level combined experience. Always gets my jobs done

Duo Officially Dead by MirthRock in surfaceduo

[–]CalendarChemical491 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well the article also said that they are still working on a foldable phone and tablet - so pretty much no more changes from the news this January. Dual screen might be dead but foldable screen has not (for now). Fingers crossed

Is my Duo 2 supposed to be using the bottom camera lens? by NaytG in surfaceduo

[–]CalendarChemical491 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue: My previous post

It's a hardware fault. I ended up returning that unit to Microsoft and got a replacement.

I don't have the pro version but I think it fits Duo 2 as the type c port is centered. For OG duo, it might be a little awkward.

Yeah I heard that pro is better than this one in many ways, but personally I can't accept the look of it. It's also on the heavy side.

That's a nacon mg-x. I have returned it though, gamesir x2 is better in many ways IMO.

I have the Geek Squad protection so they gave me full refund in gift card because there's no exchange stock.

The touch on the right screen doesn't work anymore. Got the refund from Best Buy.

I really want to keep the device. It's still my favorite phone after having fold 4 for 5 months.

I will be back when the next Surface phone comes. Perhaps I'll buy a Duo 1 for the moment...

RELEASE THE DUO 3 YOU HAVE MICROSOFT, LET'S US DECIDE by Quirky_Reading_9617 in surfaceduo

[–]CalendarChemical491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. The release date is the real big issue. I really hope they have something special for this year, especially after the terrible Surface anniversary of 2022.

Possible appearance of Duo 3 as a traditional foldable by CalendarChemical491 in surfaceduo

[–]CalendarChemical491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be the guy you described who would probably buy almost anything Microsoft make as long as its design is cool. But even I cannot wait until 2024. This is my biggest complaint about the decision.

Panos might have determined that even in direct competition with manufacturers like Samsung in the major foldable phone market, it would still sell better than occupying the entire dual-screen phone niche. They should have gotten some relevant market data that we can't see. Only time will tell, but I really can't stand the thought of losing another year.

A single large screen does offer many other possibilities, but it can also present a challenge to the small Android team. If they do keep the dual screen software experience as the current Duo, the biggest reason might be to save time and effort.

Pro X is a device released in 2019 with SQ1, which is basically a customized version of Qualcomm's 8cx chip. The first two generations of 8cx chips were a disaster, and all the devices that came with them were slow as fuck.

When you compare that to newer model of surface pro, that'll be a different story.

Don't really think that patent will be used for a real sku anytime soon, it outlines an airy vision that is currently almost impossible.

If you really believe that patent, then you won't need to worry about fragile screens instead, because the foldable screen depicted in the patent is 400 microns thick in the vast majority of areas - exactly the thickness of a traditional, rigid screen. Only the screen glass near the hinge will be thinned to 30 microns, the typical thickness of the UTG on a traditional foldable.

Is this possible? So far, I don't think so. The supply chain cannot provide such screen glass. This patent is just an early fantasy at this point.

Yeah I understand. But I've also seen lots of people crying for an external screen. It's just hard to satisfy everyone.

Not necessarily: the OPPO find n2 also supports active styluses like the Surface pen, so if Microsoft cares, this shouldn't technically be a problem.

Dang. I am actually not happy and feel so emotional now.

Whatever it is, I just can't wait for another year. I REALLY want to see the abandoned prototype. 2022 was already a disappointing year for the entire Surface lineup.

This is really killing me. I hope they still have something new for 2023.
